Gun rights - for or against?

I think you used to be in the military? I am sure you know what you are doing, but not everyone does. Besides, shouldn't people who are like me and have a fear of being around people with guns have the right to go places where people aren't carrying guns?

Weapons are everywhere....and most who carry are trained, have to pass back ground checks, be tested at the range and checked by the Sheriff's Department/FBI before they get to carry....not all states though...In Missouri we can pack without a permit and it is proven...all states that pass concealed carry laws see an over all drop in crime rates across the board...I have no issue with anyone packing around me.....especially in the world in which we live....everyone I know packs a hand gun....I do every where I go.....

LOL Been there, done that, read the book, saw the movie, bought the Tshirt....What's to be afraid of? Dying only takes a second. So....You were threatened by a PERSON with a loaded gun, then you were in a situation with an incompetent PERSON. The PERSON dropped the gun.....Has a gun ever threatened you? Were you ever in a situation with an incompetent gun? Did a gun ever drop a person and the person went off? No to all....You're still letting fear control you and you're afraid of the wrong thing. I've sat there with a gun on me before. I've faced life or death countless times. I do NOT let fear control me. Nor should you. Fear tolerated is Faith contaminated.

I find that frightening, quite frankly. I would not want to be in a place where guns are all around me. I've not noticed such a thing, I suppose there could be concealed weapons on people, but I have not noticed people openly armed. I don't know that I trust the citizenry to protect me. There was talk after Sandhook about arming teachers in our state by some idiotic state congressman. My students asked me if I was going to get a gun. I told them if I had a gun, it would be far more likely that I would accidentally shoot a student or myself than shoot a crazed gunman. I'd rather not live in the Wild West, myself.

pretty sure we have same law here in arkansas but every place you go has a no guns allowed policy. so i dont see the point. whats the worse that can happen if you take your gun in a private business with a no guns policy?

A person WITHOUT a gun can do much less damage than a person WITH a gun. I'd rather not be shot and killed while innocently browsing books in a bookstore.

I think that individuals should have the same type of individual firearm that the typical individual soldier has. Grenades and other explosive devices would only be issued in the event that the militia was called up.

Perhaps I am making a strange distinction between automatic and semiautomatic weapons versus traditional weapons. They seem to be more threatening in my opinion. I'm really not comfortable with any person buying them.

I respect that you have a fear of guns... it is because you have not been trained in the safe use of a firearm....much like the person who has not been trained in the safe use of an automobile..or a circular saw..or a sharp butcher knife. Training and familiarity eliminates fear.

It is only illegal in Missouri if a sign is posted....most business have not posted a sign....I talked with a few officers about this and like they said...if it is concealed who would know and believe it or not...most police I have talked too are good with people who pack because they know we would have their back....even an officer I talked with in Penrith, Australia wished they would loosen the gun laws a bit and allow citizens to own more weapons...he believed a bad day was coming and they police would not be able to protect the citizens...and stated he hopes he is not on duty so he can protect his family....

No offence, but the police and or government would not be able to protect you in about 95% of circumstances....sorry....

No, I am afraid of them because I have experienced being menaced by a person with a loaded gun, as well as being around a person who did not know what she was doing and dropped a loaded gun that went off and almost shot a person. I wouldn't want to carry one- because I know I am not exactly the most careful person in the world, but I don't trust any old joker carrying them in public places, either. That scares the heck out of me, to tell the truth. I mean, no offense, but some people one encounters acts like they don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain- much less carry around a loaded weapon.

Not all police people are adequately trained. THAT scares me. I don't know any LTC holders that are "trigger happy".. I'm sure they exist, just as do cops that are "trigger happy"..but all the folks I know that have their LTC are very responsible people who strongly hope and pray they never have to use it..

Most people hope to never have to use their insurance policy, either..but it's good to have if you need it.

Who is going to protect me against a joker carrying a gun who shoots a person they think is a criminal? This is controversial enough as it is, but Trayvon Martin would not be dead if the guy who shot him was not a citizen thinking he is shooting a criminal. What if I am locked out of my house and break into the window of my own house and get shot by a Barney Fife type taking the law into his own hands?

I have had a guy point a loaded handgun at me, threatning to shoot me, and it IS a terrifying thing...I have also come very close to having a fool almost run over me with a car...that was also terrifying.

Under what circumstances would you use your gun in public? I am not talking about your own home with an intruder- please do protect your family. I mean, what would it take for you to use your gun in Wal-Mart?
