No, Tobe, not awkward at all, the girl should welcome the guy ilopening up he is a christian as thecLord leads.

You probably want to wait a minute into the conversation , at least, before just mentioning you believe in God in some way. Direct words are not necessary but her knowing you are a christian is vitally important and her response reaction to your saying you believe in God needs to be:

"Me, too."

Don't beat around the bush on this importance, God wants us to include him in ALL phases of our life. There is nothing of your life that God does not want to be a part of.

It's not perfect context but God says we need to be confident of our faith in Him, saying in James I think it is, "Let your 'yes's be yes and your 'no's' be no."

God bless you, Tobe. :)

Kiwi said, " I think if you're deliberately going out of your way to spend time with a woman alone, regardless of where you are, its a date." Yeah, I try my best not to deliberately go out of my way to spend time with a woman alone now. Not dates for me. Life just seems... pretty serious.

Asif said, "I didn't answer the poll or written questions, because I don't date people which lack an already established relationship with me, so we would both know each others beliefs before that point." It's become tired. I wish people were more original.

Viola said, "I have to agree with Liam about church, Green. If a guy meets up with me at church, and considers it a date, then to me, is he going to church because of God, or is he going to church to meet single women?" Probably to meet single women (honestly) though church isn't the best place exactly to do that (but then I guess it depends on what each person is looking for)... just being honest. Some girl friends once told me how they liked to watch guys in church and how guys praising God was so 'hot' to them. I lost my appetite.

Nalu said, "If I did date, I would date Christians exclusively... So to answer the question, we would both know we were Christians long before any formal introductions were made." Yep.

Hey, Green. You said, "Great , imallin. I think earlier than after 20 minutes is best because it strikes accountability immediately into the meeting." Sorry, I didn't specify that I don't date anymore. I prefer to just have friends. People can usually tell pretty quickly that I'm Christian though I rarely tell anyone. Due to the fallen world we live in (and courtesy of the media, thank you), people are broken (pretty messed up) and don't even know it; they get into relationships and wonder why things go wrong (and blame the other person; it's amazing how this replays over and over again). Not a good way to start. I was singing Fernando Ortega's 'Lonely Road' some days ago (beautiful song); you can feel his spirit in his music. The relationship between a man and his wife (at least Christians) is supposed to be holy. The sex, sensuality, romance, and etc., are all way tertiary in importance (I know it's hard to believe in our day when they are primary). There's no magic in falling in love, but there's a miracle in being in love the way God created us to originally function: perfectly (whole, not broken and wounded). You might get a taste of this when you listen to the song (Fernando Ortega | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos, click play on 'Lonely Road'). It's the closest, as songs go, to giving me a glimpse into the holiness that God wants between Christian couples. (Of course, no one wants that. "Let's just have fun!" And they are broken over and over and over again. There is 'a more excellent way'.) He sings so beautifully: "Oh my lover's eyes, they are blue and gray, like the changing tides, in Half Moon Bay. And she fills my heart, like the wind in an open sail.... She's my song in the evening, a clear voice that calms me in the dark. And I belong there beside her, where the waves break blue beneath the stars." Hello. God help me if I don't find that. I'll go crazy! Lol.

Asif said, "I normally suspect others, and they suspect me (visa versa, if you will) of being Christian or not. Even though you can't judge a book by its cover necessarily, when Jesus was around, most people didn't have to ask if He was Jesus, they could tell. In the same way, Christ lives in you, so if you have a heart for God and are living with and trying to be like him, people can tell." Real talk.

I think it comes down to what a person wants or is looking for. At the end of the movie 'The Punisher', the main actor has packed up his things and is leaving his apartment. The girl living across from him (wanting a good guy but looking for a bad guy) approaches him, as she doesn't want him to leave, and he says to her before she can speak, "I'm not what you're looking for." Then he leaves. He wasn't the bad boy she was looking for; their relationship wouldn't have worked as she was used to being abused one way or another by men. Many people want one thing but are looking for another. As God 'fixes us', we become whole and mature and are able to make real good and wise decisions concerning relationships.

First of all... I wouldn'd date a non christian ;)

----
Ok, but what if this guy you chance meet never says he is a christian or not the whole time he talks to you, erikaY, and, then, you like the guy so you ask 'you are funny. You know God.'

Guy,: yes, I know Him. I go to church , I accepted Him in my heart when I was a 10 at the altar after my little sister died. ' Then he smiles at you , you talk a little more, and then he says, 'hey, let's go do a movie.'

Girl: Shoooore.

Guy: great, let's meet at 4 pm at theatre .

-------
Ok, green, where are you going with this?

Ahh, never thought you'd ask ;)

The guy, miladies, is NOT a Christian, he just paved the way into your heart by your finding out by asking him if he knew God.' He doesn't have a sister either, let alone, as he said, 'a little sister.'

You've been had, and, sorry, to say erikaY, but you just went on a date to a movie with a non-christian.
Not sure what your 'wink' means but this guy knows God well enough to FOOL you for much longer after this 1st date. He keeps holding off meeting his 'little sister' until deep in relationship, many church dates layer and many, sorry to say, defiling nights together :(

And, shooore, you can have God by your side through that first initial meeting , and, He will be with you. BUT , if you hear illogic, that is, he agreeing with you he is a Christian only after 10 minutes of talking and flirting with you and then agreeing he is after you flat-out ask him if he believes in God then...

I believe you need to WALK in most cases.
-----
Just saying from all this....

A solid Christian guy will NOT leave God out of the conversation long at all. For my poll answer, I said right after introductions and breaking the ice. Just look at poll numbers, miladies of this thread that's run THREE WEEKS now and just brought back from the dead, LOL, but, YEAH, all respondents mention God to you. None leave it to you to ask him if he believes in God. I know I am older than lotta you, so, times/culture change BUT this is the same. The guy needs to have God most important in His life or don't let the flame even flicker. For the tongue by then could come out like that of a snake, and, desire could become temptation and temptation could become sin with this boy you asked 'Do you believe in God?'

And, he said, 'yesssssss. '. Only you could only hear 'yes,' milady, as he smiled at you grinningly, much as beautiful as a cheshire cat .

but, Yeah, and, this fairly quick asking her if she believes in God, mygents :D is only if you really , really really (not just 'really, really,' :D ) like the girl do you ask her if she knows God very quickly into the conversation. Honest, I think up to 5 minutes into convo is fine too, because, ladies, listen up, IF you are into a flirty conversation with a guy and he brings up God to you in a peculiar way or flat-out asks 'Do you believe in God,?' it means he doesn't just like you , it, even, like, like you, it means he really, really, really likes you :)

Again, miladies, it is not a 100% solution of knowing, but how many of those christian chat guys that answered the poll said they would never mention God to a girl they really, really, really liked upon a chance encounter and hit off some serious flirtatious convo with you?

How many? In three weeks time ?

5% ?
25 %?

Zero %

Be a hero, a repeller of coming evil,, miladies, give that guy staring you with big, green, acquiesce eyes ZERO chance, the Lord leads. Pray soo much IF you still want to say 'yes' to his asking you out after you were the asker of God being believed. Soo much.

God bless you, erikaY,

God bless you, erikaY,

Brother Green,
I read your replay but you started discribing a hypothetical situation in which I would be starting to stablish a conversation and a friendship (first fo all) with this person and then start dating cause I would (hyphotetically like this person). So given what you said:
If I make friends with this guy, wouldn't I know:
-by his language
-the way he addresses me
-the way he treats others
-the way he follows the society
I have this conclusion:
I would easily know that this guy is NOT a christian, so even before I could be dating this person I would easily know if he's christian or not. Dear brother Green, I don't know about you, but I think that if you are a mature christian and you know God parameters very well you'll easily find out the people around you who are not christian, and finally, If you are a MATURE CHRISTIAN, like I try to be, you shouldn't like or go for non christians ;)

"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" 2 Cor 6:14

No, in one first chance encounter you cannot begin to know this guy, you MUST understand the clues he gives you IF he is a Christian or not. That is why I did that hypo example, so, it can be seen that you can't see it coming until it's came, that is, you cannot truly know this guy in one meeting well unless he brings up God to you. And, you really don't know him then either, he could say 'Do you believe in God,' and you say 'yes,' and he could then have good intentions going out with you and be a Christian and get overcome by temptation of your prettiness to him. :(

And, moreover, this guy you like could ask you if you believe in God and be not a Christian and just take you for a ride, all the more reason, this latter reason to have your HEART held near and dear to Christ and NOT to becoming to things of this world where your armor can be chinKed :(

ErikaY, I see what you are saying about 'maturity' level but the human mind cannot 'ascertain' spiritual maturity,, that is, IF he says he believes in God and actually does believe there is a God but doesn't follow Him in his life. See the difference there?

God must help you ascertain (and, this can go both ways, guy must understand a girl's true equalness of yoking in Christ) and your relationship solid with Him will discover sooo much for you about guys in life, including 'the one' that is ultimately, for life, right for you. :)
---------
And, yes, just like some guys, like, I think, my brother, Liam, are very savvy with girls, in a respectful way and an understanding way, I just get that feel from having read all liam's past posts of things, he sometimes just steps out there and really speaks wisdom about 'relationships,' melding God in there subtly always. But some are savvy in not a respectful way, but you won't know it because the guy reads you better than you read yourself because your life with Christ needs work and your mind is clouded with materialism and things that seem harmless but are because he does things with God an afterthought to doing things. But the guy mentions God just enough to keep you thinking he is following him. See? Subtle :(

Now, that all said, ErikaY, and, I appreciate your candid, listening response, there are girls, like yourself, that want to do things God's way in establishing a friendship before a serious relationship, great, that is good, that is possible, but it is ONLY possibly done the right way (notice my play with the word 'possibly') , and, that right way is by the guy ESTABLISHING the VERY first time he meets you that he is in love with God first in his life.

And, sure, we can easily be tooo picky with things here, saying these hypothetical situations and such and being tooo guarded, tooo specific of situations that will 'NEVER happen to me,' you say. And, maybe so, but onlyl IF you don't ever talk to......... guys .

Life is filled with twists and turns and by my doin this thead, I just want miladies (and mygents) to understand the RIGHT way to ESTABLISH a relationship with a lady. And, you're in luck ladies, ALL the guys that posted to my poll said the RIGHT thing :) So, go after them. Oh, wait, you don't know who they are. Nevermind. :D

Wow
Its funny how you DID NOT READ THE WHOLE response I just put on here. I had lots of non christian guys who tried to woo me and I can tell you I dont need more than 5 mins to know they're not christan by just talking to them, and all I need to do is rejecting them cause Im not interested in those guys.
:P

I won't answer to this thread any more cause this is becoming unedifying the way I see it. Thank you for you insight GreenNnice

_____________

I'm just saying that the guy should take the initiative VERY early in the conversation, and, there is no set pattern for when to ask the girl if she believes in God, I just feel that it's important that the guy does do it at some point because it is being fair and open to the girl and she deserves to know this important FACT very soon into the conversation.
Saying things like 'What if he is a poser, and, says he's a Christian but is not' is all hypothetical, as you say, Erika, and, probably that situation won't happen to you, but it could. I don't know, I am not a girl so I don't get asked out by guys.

Sorry if I said anything de-edifying, not my intent.

The Lord leads and IF what I said about guy asking girl out quick into a first chance encounter, at a grocery store, or, wherever, your attraction is led to happen by God, and IF he doesn't ever ask in meeting you 'Do you believe in God,' then that is fine. Just ask God, I am just human while He is just God . :)

______
God bless you, too, ErikaY.

i didn't read through this thread, but how about the option "BEFORE the date begins". I would think many people don't even take a girl out unless they are Christian to begin with.

Arrgh Im curious as to what the poll shows but I can't see it unless I vote but Im not allowed to.. Lol

Also as a woman, I would be insulted if a guy considered church as a date between the two of us. Sure its a nice experience for both, but in my opinion, church to me is so I can go on a date with God and only God no one else. Sunday is His day.

I can see where the confusion happens for Erika and others.

I think so many think that I am saying that you should tell the girl you are a Christian 1 minute, or, 5 minutes, or 20 minutes into the date.....

N O ! N-O, as my mom would spell out for me when I was dead wrong. Again, I understand your confusion, especcially the guys that vote and see the word 'date' in the poll choices.

The word 'date' should be 'chance encounter.'

You see, I am not talking about going out on a date, I am just talking about going somewhere say, lilke the grocery store, I said, and, just standing in line with your stuff, you see a girl in line behind you, so, there, are 3-4 people ahead of you so you have some time to burn :)

So, you, the guy, say something to the girl, like, 'Nice to be able to be patient isn't it? '
She replies, 'Sure,' laughing, a smidge, at what you say to her.

So the ball is rolling, rolling. OK, so the WHOLE point of my thread is that the guy should talk to the girl about God in some way subtly or flat-out ask her 'Do you believe in God,' IF he is SERIOUSLY considering asking her out on the spot in this grocery line.

JR49er, see, this is not a first date that you are mentioning God, it is just a first encounter. Sorry for the confusion.

OK, CC, the poll has 5 choices:

Question: When would you mention God to a girl in a chance encounter at a grocery store? (I paraphrase it a bit because this makes more sense than what I said before)

A. After introductions, about ONE MINUTE in, you, the guy, direct the conversation to the spiritual in some subtle, or, not so subtle way, by mention that you believe in God, or, like, when she says her life is tough now, you say, 'God can help you with that toughness.' 6 voted for this response

B. 5 minutes into the conversation . 4 votes .

C. 10 minutes into the conversation. 2 votes

D. Right at the end of the conversation, you mention to her you believe in God. 0 votes.

E. In the first chance meeting, you never say to her anything about God. O votes .

I would indirectly mention my faith in God during a first encounter with a woman in this way:

"There must be a God, because Evolution has neither the power nor the capacity to form a creature as beautiful as the one that stands before me!"

To be honest, it sounds very stressful to have 1 or 5 or 10 minutes of time to tell someone that you are christian and it sounds more weird that you are thinking in that things before going out with someone, it sounds as if you are into a rush to see someone (thinking about this person as your future wife/husband).....so stressful.

And i wonder again, why dont be friend someone first ? why dont talk and know that person about many things and about what they believe and in which moment of his faith is in this moment but with patience?

If they are christian then you will have a new christian friend

and if they are not christian then you can talk about Jesus with them

Totally agree with you Liz01, that's what Im saying to GreenNnice but he doesnt seem to understand :S

The last time I even talked to a single girl I just met in real life outside of a Christian setting for even close to 20 minutes was.... .... .... does my Dental assistant count? Um, I would say at least 5 years ago. Oh wait they were Christian. Um... Ya I dont Put myself in those settings as in I don't talk to women randomly for that long and I dont do the whole friends thing with girls. My vote will go that I wouldnt mention it because I don't think I would unless it was part of the normal conversation. I wouldn't force anything God. If my parents come up naturally I'll say my father is a pastor.

I should vote now.

Change the words at the end of the poll from date to meeting and I'll vote. I can't cause part of it still says date and if it was a date I wouldn't date the girl unless she was Christian.

You guys are killing me, that's a figure of speech by the way :D

Why is it stressful, lizzietheone, thatACK! ACK! help, can't breeeeathHEIMLICH, heimGod!

Oh, Ok, my prayer was answered, thought there for a sec I was dying. ;)

OK, seriously, and, that little almost-death dealio was to explain that everyone is different. Some of miladies will find what I just did humorous and some will say, 'Oh, puh-leeze, green.'

lizzietheone, there should only be stress on the guy IF he doesn't at some point in this chance meeting at library, grocery line, wherever, talk about God in some subtle or not so subtle way.

It's all in how the Lord leads your life, guys, I am soooo praying whenever I am talking to a girl I like. So far, God's said, no, no, no, no, no. So in how you ask a girl out, guys, I am old school, I guess, so some may think girl can ask out guy, I TOTALLY disagree with that. Hint? Yes, she can surely HINT. But, no, not ask out.

So, for the guy , to ask the girl out in this first encounter (not date, not date, NOT dat, the poll question with 'date' in it should be AXED out, it's FIRST TIME MEETING :) ) , I just think it is of paramount importance that the relationship be started in this way. You can mince words, or, just think to self, 'Well, I am sure she is a Christian by way she is acting, I don't need to ask her,' but I just think you do, it IMMEDIATELY brings accountability to this chance encounter. The guy needs to bring it , LOL .

But, again, as I said to ErikaY, I am just green, I am not God , or, I said something like that. YOU do what the Lord leads, guys, if you feel, JRSF49er, that you want to just tell her 'my dad is a pastor' and leave it at that, fine. That is real fine too, that is mentioning 'God,' like I said, I don't care how you do it, guys, just do it :) Nike will be so proud of you too :D

So will God, I think, yes, I think God wants a guy to take the reigns and in some way ask a girl if she likes God. I don't care, you don't have to say 'believe in God,' you don't have to say anything close, just don't let her THINK DIFFERENT, that you are NOT a Christian. Make sense?
Probably not. Guess that's what I get for just being green and nice . I am glad I didn't call myself greenNunderstandable :D

lizzietheone, I always appreciate what you say, as I do all miladies, who bring discussion threading to things, I like that :) , sorry, but I do :) God bless you, milady, and, my 'caps,' are merely for emphasis I hope you know , nothing whatsoever yelling or bombastic directed at you, ever, or ANY of my other ladies . :) Guys, on the other hand, WATCH OUT !!! I will take you ON . Hey, you got a minute, let's play some xbox live DONKEY KONG :D

Totally agree with you Liz01, that's what Im saying to GreenNnice but he doesnt seem to understand :S

Blessings

I know, erikaY, I tried my best to explain that this is not a date where you are asking them if they believe in God. This is the prologue, if you want to put it in that way, with the 'date' the story.
I just feel the prologue needs to be the guy setting the scene as God would want. :)

Againee, I can sound VERY opinionated but it is just the green in me, please go straight to the nice part :D But, seriously, I just try to let the Lord (Holy Spirit) lead what I say.

I am trying to help , I really am :)

Change the words at the end of the poll from date to meeting and I'll vote. I can't cause part of it still says date and if it was a date I wouldn't date the girl unless she was Christian.

JRSF49er, are you saying that if you meet a girl in a library, that you wouldn't maybe just start a conversation with her and talk to her for 15-20 minutes ?

That's fine. We are all different. I know I have, although not married and truly I have not gone on many dates, although I did take a girl to the local fair summertime a couple years ago and she wanted a sunflower stuffed smily thingamajig and I won it for her. Then she went off to her home in Oregon and I still wonder if I should have joined her for seminary, where she was starting to go that upcoming Fall . . The Lord leads.

So, I probably have not explained myself any better than before but please give me points for trying, and, can they be green point, please :D

"JRSF49er, are you saying that if you meet a girl in a library, that you wouldn't maybe just start a conversation with her and talk to her for 15-20 minutes ? "

Sadly, I have worked in a library for the past 4 years, a university library of 20000 female students, more or less 2000 in and out of the library every day, and have not once started a conversation with any girl other than co workers. Any co worker near my age are student workers, from which one girl I did talk to a few times for about 3 minutes each. So yeah, no, I never have talked to women I dont know, at least since college and even then it was in group settings and my college was christian anyway. :P

i have however been in lots of situations where it isnt one on one and many girls are around, that happens a lot and i do talk to women in those settings and tonight i just did and did not bring up God however it wasnt really a get to know you talk at all, it was all casual about things not ourselves. however i am renting rooms out and one renter is female and our second talk i did mention God and christianity, that was a few weeks ago.

:P i dont talk to people more than a few minutes, isnt this normal? does everyone my age or less start one on one convos with people lasting 15 minutes regularly or something? is this just a canadian thing, what is going on?!!

Please breath Green!!! hahaha i dont want that you faint

I see your point and i think its very cool that you want to lead, i guess is harder for you guys than for us
