I just read about two people in the Bible who aren’t talked about much – Hanani and Hananiah – and I think their story is worth sharing.
Hanani was Nehemiah’s brother. He brought the sad truth that Jerusalem’s walls were broken and the gates were burned. He didn’t sugarcoat it. He spoke the truth because he cared. That news moved Nehemiah to pray, weep, and take action to rebuild.
Hananiah was known as a faithful man who feared God more than most. Nehemiah trusted him to help guard and lead Jerusalem after the walls were rebuilt. He wasn’t famous or loud, but he was steady, dependable, and loyal to God.
What I love about this is how God used their honesty and faithfulness in a big plan. One told the truth that started the work. The other quietly protected what was built. Both mattered.
It makes me think: in our own lives, maybe the small acts of truth and loyalty we show today are part of something much bigger that God is doing.
What do you think? Do you find it harder to speak the truth like Hanani, or to stay faithful like Hananiah?
