I hope you all have a great Sabbath tonight and tomorrow, and that you will be blessed in your resting relationship with Him!

For those of you who celebrate the Biblical Feast days and are celebrating Shavuot/Pentecost on Sunday, I pray that it is a joyful and anointed time for you, as you celebrate God's gift of His Word and His Spirit. Our church will be camping, having an special outdoor prayer/worship time, and then a church wide BBQ on Sunday with the giving of personal testimonies and encouragement.

Is badly needed after a week of physically hard work on my ride...took the ball joints out and had all the bolts re-torqued in several long nights after work and still have wobble but I would leave the worries until Monday.
BBQ on Sunday for me too. Never celebrated Pentecost and would spend the day getting to know more...
 
Surprised no one mentioned Pentecost today. Thought it's important for "NT" Christians. Guess not.
 
Pentecost isn't important because we aren't told to celebrate it in the New Testament, therefore we can't celebrate it.

Isn't it a bit early to have had that much wine for you to say that? :)
I notice that
a. he Lord has already given the Holy Spirit in John 20:22.
b. He didn't tell the disciples exactly when the Holy Spirit would come to baptise them in Acts 1. It "just so" happened on Pentecost.
For the disciples at that point in time, the receiving of the Holy Spirit seemed to be a tangible thing as witnessed by tongues of fire upon the head and the ability of speaking in other tongues, not to mention the subsequent signs and wonders. What do we now have?
 
No, you can celebrate it, but there is no command.

I can't keep Labor Day and Memorial Day straight.
I never even realize that it is Pentecost - No one around me mentions it and I rarely look at calendars:). I think that only certain calendars have Pentecost on them, right.

(or on an unrelated topic, mirrors. Every once in a while I look in a mirror and think man I need to shave).
 
I think an important question to ask is WHY the disciples were gathered together in the room on "Pentecost".

Act 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The church was BORN on Pentecost. The Holy Spirit was given on Pentecost. Yes, we are supposed to observe Pentecost. It also pictures the first harvest at Christ's return.

And it was 9 o'clock in the morning...what were they doing, instead of going to the temple like everyone else, when the Holy Spirit came upon them?

We don't have an Accord so we stayed home. :)
Nothing happened yesterday and I feel so useless. No guts to speak publicly against this perverted world and am just wondering when the two witnesses with signs and wonders will come.

No, nothing unusual, three songs, opening prayer, sermonette, song, announcements, song, sermon, song and closing prayer.

repeat in the afternoon.

Not in memory of, but celebrating the N.T. church and the receiving of the Holy Spirit which empowers us to live a Christian life.

Exactly.

"Pentecost" as it is understood in Acts 2 wasn't a brand new special day that started in Acts 2.

They were celebrating a day God had told them to celebrate thousands of years before.

Shavuot.
 
We had prayer and worship time Saturday night.
Then a BBQ on Sunday.
Then a time of public testimonies from everyone in attendance.

Awesome day.

And was to be celebrated until when?

Lev 23:21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

In one place. - Where this place was we cannot tell: it was probably in the temple, as seems to be intimated in Act_2:46, where it is said they were daily ὁμοθυμαδον εν τῳ ἱερῳ, with one accord in the temple; and as this was the third hour of the day, Act_2:15, which was the Jewish hour of morning prayer, as the ninth hour was the hour of evening prayer, Act_3:1, it is most probable that the temple was the place in which they were assembled.

In one place - Where this was cannot be known. Commentators have been much divided in their conjectures about it. Some have supposed that it was in the upper room mentioned in Act_1:13; others that it was a room in the temple; others that it was in a synagogue; others that it was among the promiscuous multitude that assembled for devotion in the courts of the temple. See Act_2:2.

And indeed, no other place or house could hold so many as came to hear them, of which number three thousand were converted,

They were at the Temple.
