Roger was very zealous for discrediting certain spiritual gifts
God has not yet got his attention
That cessationist doctrine has been around for years.
I honestly can not imagine what drives them .Years and years of falsifying 1 cor 13.
Paul clearly,clearly defines when the gifts cease.

You know, there are several things one must stay aware to when talking about groups. One is that group get profiled usually on majority view . Secondly that in all groups, there will be individuals who exist primarily outside the group profile. Next is perception, how a group is perceived (right or wrong). Then there is discussion, most often based upon perceptions.
In discussion we have to consider tone. A lot of the 'no' crowd has this perception of the charismatica as a side show - and for good reason. You know there are those who take it too far, and even commit fraud. That's a big part of Paul's reason to write 1 Cor. 14. To tell them to put a leash on it, and to discern time and place.
Since that is the perception of the profile in these discussions, my responses are directed to that perception and profile. Sure, in painting with such a broad brush it inadvertently covers those exceptions to the profile and it's perception.
And that obviously caught you in it, so I apologize to you.
If you are familiar with my words you will know that I defend the gifts jealously. To be honest a lot of what I've learned was in what some would call a charismatic church. But it was one that was leashed, that knew time and place and didn't go to excess. They didn't call themselves charismatic either, or much by denomination either. It was just a place where people could go and worship in the understanding and the Spirit. It didn't need to be more, or show more.
I agree whole heartedly that the charismatica is sorely missing from the true church today, and needs to be instilled into these lest they perish in the coming days. But it needs to be instilled into the streets, not just the assembly room. Lifting praise in church on a warm spring day is not what we with the charismatica need to focus on. Taking the charismatica into the streets in warfare and redemption are.
When I say charismatic, I'm talking about those who've gone off the deep end. Which is what a lot of the naysayers are picturing. I know there are true gatherings of Charismatic believers, and I never actually meant to slight them.
Perhaps I should use the term 'pretenders to the tongue' instead
His gifts are functional all over the world.He sends the rain of his blessing/healing on the believer just as he does to the unbeliever. Miracles are Miracles, nothing more and nothing less. God is God, nothing less.
So gifts.. yes. Sign gifts...no .The two words oppose themselves like water and oil or the things of God and those of men .....never mixing. Signs are for those who believe we are not to walk by faith.(the unseen) . Walking by sight is for those who not not mix faith, the unseen wonder when they hear the word of God. No such thing as a "sign gift".
There are no prompts as loving commandments to seek after a sign (walk by sight)for some reason or other.
What could be the purpose of seeking after one?

Since God is not adding to His interpretation to us the scriptures, and has given a warning at the end of His book to those not to add or subtract from the now perfect as in complete will of God .The only possibility is a person is receiving a strong delusion to believe the lie. Putting ones faith in what they do see.. The same reason for the fall in the garden.

Sir, let me assure you I mean absolutely no insult the fine men and women who serve this country. You are the best of the best of the world, and the only thing I disrespect about our servicemen is how our leaders treat them.

Our country is in dire distress. Our leaders have each been a stepping stone towards the antichrist, and against our own people. The Bible says the right shall be wrong and the wrong, right - we're there, never in our history have we been in such dire straits. People don't back Trump because he's Trump, they back him solely because he's the only one who's promising to change the status quo. Our politicos ignore the people and do everything they can to maintain the status quo. And at this point people are so desperate to change the status quo they'll change it for worse if that's what it takes. People live at each other's throats, desperate to preserve what little they have left. We are as a people, as a nation, and as a world, in very dire distress.
And that is why the flag is upside down, along with the mug shots of those responsible. It is according to the flag code and in no way, shape or form, intended to convey anything about you fine people. Lord knows, you bleed every day in the attempt to change what is.
And honestly, If I ran the world, you guys would make what ball players make, and vice versa.
I hope you understand that my flag is upside down because it needs defending, and that I acknowledge you and your people as the tip of the spear in defending it. If not, if you still wish, out of respect for the uniform I will take it down.
But in all honesty, it is with respect for the uniform and the people you protect, that I put it up in distress.
For the record, I was a firefighter/emt for over 35 years. I too have worn the uniform in defense of my fellow man. And I have both bled and seen friends bleed and die in that service. I have done my time marching in funeral processions and watching widows being presented with flags.
The country we both have served is in distress. We need to serve it once more by bringing that to the forefront.

The point was I think that Jesus spoke to them in chapter 14 and 16 of Johns Gospel not only for their edification but ours too. The Same Holy Spirit who Jesus said would lead you and guide you, is not doing any of that today? The Holy Spirit is only the Comforter to the disciples and not you and me? How is it that we can say that God is limited only to those Disciples ? When the promise of the Holy Spirit is for them and their Children and as many as the Lord calls ?.
The biblical Context of the Spirit of the living God , Holy Spirit , Spirit of the Lord , Comforter, Spirit of truth all are about the working of God's Spirit in the Believer all of them.
It is eliciting of scripture : when one says the gifts are ended, yet then claims; to have them is very confusing. Why would God only impart to those here on CC who claim to have gifts of discernment ? All the gifts have to be tested by those in the Congregation in light of scripture I can say I have the gift of "A" or "B" the result of the gift in action or the end result is what is to be judged, not one saying I have them and oh WOW cool. No. it has to edify, comfort , and build up and line up with the Word of God or it is not of God and you have spoken presumptively and should be told to sit down and be quiet .

I too am a vet retired of 20 years and the flag upside down in the navy is a Distress sign. you may not agree with it but some think our nation is under that very same distress and some even think that the Judgement of God is on it too.
That being said Burning the flag to me is far more disrespectful and it is done more than the sign of distress Upside down cross yes but not the flag but I will ask you to pm the person and see what he or she will do to change it . But it is not disrespectful.
I am a veteran also and I havent a problem with it, I certainly wouldnt start hyperventilating over something like that.

The original-plus-one apostles practiced, and some taught many other people about the gifts of the Spirit. Many of those people lived past the deaths of those 12. They were taught and expected to practice as the Spirit directs.
Why is it said some or all of the gifts ceased with the deaths of the 12 (cessationism), leaving perhaps thousands of disciples holding an empty bag of ceased tricks? If they were taught about things to do that were only intended for those apostles, then why would God let them write letters to those disciples explaining the use of them, and why would God lead them to teach a soon-to-die practice?
The Holy Spirit would surely have been negligent to inspire those men to teach those things without warning them of their loss of validity? Shouldn't at least one of them have written that those things were for the original apostles only, not to leave millions of Christians to have to debate the matter?
So where do the scriptures declare the sign gifts were only for the 12, or would cease when they died?
