I believe #6 is the correct use in this particular instance. Your idea does raise an interesting thought of what God does with what we have done. Not how He uses it but how He converts it for us.

Hi John, I agree, also 9 and 10. In the simplest terms I purify the fat and remove the products that would cause the fat to spoil or go bad. Once this is done the fat can remain pure indefinately.
I have a friend that found a can of rendered fat from the 1800s, it was still pure and white.
I once spoke to a man that had lived in times where there was no refrigeration. He told me that they would keep their beef from spoiling by browning it, then place it in a crock on a layer of rendered fat.
They would cover it with more rendered fat then repeat the process. Its interesting that the pure fat kept the beef from going bad or rancid.
It never stops amazing me how God Our Father sets his wonder throughout his creation.

Paul is building up to the statement he will make in Romans 3:23

23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement



No he wasn't talking to Jews only. This relates to grace and faith because he's building up to the main argument in romans 3:23 that NONE are righteous. This isn't really relating to 1 John directly. It's not talking about differing rewards for Christians.

If you isolate "He will render to each one according to his works:" from romans 3:23, which says non are righteous, then one can be confused.

Paul's main point is that everyone is guilty of sin, so if they were judged according to their works, they'd be in for a world of hurt!

For example. If I was trying to build up to the fact that it takes a floatation device for a rock or a brick to float, I might argue this way.

A brick can't float.
A rock can't float.
A rock and brick can only float with the help of a floatation device.

Now if someone isolated the statement "a brick can't float", then asked "is he saying a brick can't even with a floatation device?" we might ask them to read a few lines down!

It's the same with this verse you point out in romans. You just need to read a few lines down.

Right. So it is hypothetical, in that, those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor, is in fact, no-one at all......

There's nothing hypothetical about it, being judged according to works

Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead in it. And death and hell delivered up the dead in them. And each one of them was judged according to their works.

I should speak to how I se rendering work, It is in Jesus that we are saved. The good part that is in us.
When I render fat I have to purify with water added in order to cause the bad to be removed.
Then only that which is good remains.
The separation of that which is bad or spoils is compleatly removed, made good by the work of the Father.
The water, Jesus purifies .We are the fat, Jesus cleans us of sin, God Our Father makes us good through his son Jesus.
End result, clean fat.= We are made good through Jesus by the mercy of God Our Father.

Of course we have to be willing to let the work be done and willing to be put in fire to be cleaned.

He was talking the people at that time and he is talking to us. His word is as alive today as it was then.

We were created to bring glory to the Lord. We do this by baring much fruit. Not some fruit but much fruit. By the powers of God we do as much as we can bringing people to the Lord. Helping poor people. Any acts of kindness, ect, ect.

In heaven we will be rewarded and on earth we will be rewarded for what we do.

If you do next to nothing its being witten down. If your doing a lot its all being written down.
