The road trip idea is pretty boss. But it'ld be weird for a single woman to come visit me by herself, so swing by and pick up Chrissy & Rachel on your way to California. If somehow yall end up in Oklahoma, well, I know a kitchen table where yall can get a cheap meal and that sort of thing :P

I'm not sure where Rach is but Arwen would have to go way out of her way to get me. I am on the other side of America from where she is in Canada. She would pass you before she ever got to me. I guess I will HAVE to make the sacrifice to meet her half way.:)

Road trip...but plz by all means stay in Canada, seeing as how Americans are so offensive.

Give it away..... I mean, keep some, but, I mean, well, pray, hmm, what we have is all His, anyway, arewinning, you always win when you follow Him. Church is tomorrow... :)

I'm not sure what language this is but His language is love and He did give 'it' away, His life for us. Quite a profound concept, really. Love it ! Because of His Love for us, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us

I thought it was only a matter of time until I got a donation response

From your post, I'm getting the vibe that you really want that camera, I'd so go for that. :)

Well I was kind of implying a **small** road trip, ie to another province, for a few hours. Just get on the open road.

c'mon, it's still the same continent and all... I'm sure the other ladies would chip some for gas money and there's plenty of decent cc folk that would let you couch surf.

Or maybe get a sweet pawnshop guitar & save the rest to grow for something bigger. If you know what to avoid and how to shop for them, or know someone who does... the pawnbroker's can be an Excellent source for guitars. Especially if you live in a artistically inclined area, or a fiscally challenged area (these often coincide).
I used to know a fella that paid $125 for a 1924 National Steel Resonator Guitar! He said the man at the pawnshop tried to talk him up on the price by claiming that it was once played by the bus driver for the Statler Brothers. If you're not familiar with this sort of thing, i dare you to check the value on google or some such.

LOL seat...."I dare you to check the value"..................Is this what the CC forum has become? A bunch of American hating,Google price comparing thugs? lol

As an Aussie, I feel indifferent to this conversation of Americans vs Canadians (although the word Canada always reminds me 'candida'... hehe google it). However, next month I'm heading to US/Canada for a 5 week vacation. So, I shall reserve my judgement until I return.

yes, yes it is.
no.
not at all.
ebay has one like it for 2,500. that one is a less rare model, though, lacking the natural patina.

A had a friend who used to dip her fries in mayo. She was American, so I don't think that's a Canadian thing...

Not a Canadian here but I dip my fries in mayo. Dipping them in ketchup/mustard is an absolute tragedy.

I vote for the splurge on a trip.

pshhh.....you dip your fries in mayo, what's up with that? :P

Actually, as far as I know, Canucks dip, or rather DROWN their fries in gravy and cheese curds

and

it

is

FLIPPING

AMAZING.

The existence of poutine forgives ANYTHING we Yanks might consider Canadian crimes against humanity (see: Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Shania Twain). In fact, if Canada is never remembered in the annals of history for anything except the creation of poutine, it will still rank among the all-time greatest civilizations ever. Just because of poutine. That's how awesome it is.

Arwen, I'm a band director who has almost no background in guitar. I have recently taken up pretending to play bass in my church's worship band. (That's when I pick up a bass and make notes, and everyone in church thinks it's amazing, but it's actually pretty terrible and they just don't know any better.) It's fun. It's more fun if you put in a little time every day (say, 30 minutes) to work at it. In a month, you'll be fine. And it becomes a lifetime skill.

Photography is also a lifetime skill. In high school, I took up amateur photography (after my father), and enjoyed it. This was well before the digital era, and I gave it up because the amount of shooting necessary was expensive, film, developing, etc. Nowadays, anyone can get into it. It's also a worthwhile skill. But it can also become an exceptionally expensive one. If you get real invested, and you start out with a lowline or midline DSLR, you'll eventually want to upgrade to a more expensive one. Also, even MORE important than the camera you buy is the glass! (My dad is no longer a simple amateur, when he retires from teaching, he'll likely go pro.) You can actually do really high level work with a low level DSLR if you have high quality glass. But if you have a high level DSLR and lousy glass, you're gonna have lousy results. And sadly, good glass isn't cheap. Photography is really amazing. But it's a heck of a lot more expensive than becoming a casual guitarist for fun.

Can you spend big money on an axe? Absolutely. But the casual hobbyist musician has no need to. And my life has revolved around making music nonstop for more than two decades. That's my perspective, and it's obviously biased. But I do think it's something worth thinking about. Money is money, and your decision should not be made lightly.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Meh...I wouldn't go THAT far.

Hey, to us Yanks, this is just as exotic as eating Japanese blowfish sashimi. Of course YOU think it's mundane. You can get it on any street corner from Ottawa to Vancouver. (I just threw out some random Canadian locations that probably make no sense. For all I know, Vancouver might be a part of Ottawa. Fifty percent of my working knowledge of Canada comes from watching Strange Brew.)

If you are really serious about photography then get a DSLR, with one caveat: I don't know how much you know about cameras but please don't make the mistake of thinking that your pictures will instantly look better with a DSLR because they won't, except for when you enlarge them you will see less pixel noise than when you use a compact camera since DSLR's use a larger sensor. A lot of people think that getting a DSLR will make their pics instantly look better but it won't. It only offers more control over the exposure, less image noise, and the ability to use a wide range of lenses.

What about Trailer Park Boys?

Get the guitar, then use it to go busking on street corners and parks until you have enough money for a road trip and camera.

Oh, and it's perfectly ok to be annoyed with Americans. I am annoyed with them too and I are one.
And mayonnaise is horrid.

Other: Internet shopping (especially Craigslist) can do wonders. Guitar and camera. Then you take them both on your next road trip. :-)
