K. I'm getting the guitar. And sorry for being cliche Stuey lol

*puts Arwen in the Hipster basket.*

:D

Haha I could never be a hipster, simply for the fact that I wouldn't be original. My identity is dependent on being different after all :P I could never be associated with THAT trend. *rolls eyes and adjusts black framed glasses that are certainly NOT hipster glasses*

:P

I cannot decide so I am putting up a poll

I have some extra cash this payday, and I desire to spend it (obviously)

I am torn- for awhile now I've been wanting a DSLR Camera, I've be into photography for 6 years now, and I can afford to buy one off of Kijiji that I have been eying.
Or buy an acoustic guitar which I can also afford. I used to play in junior high but haven't pick up one since, so I would have to relearn a bit.
Or something else.

SO this is your *opportunity* (yes, opportunity!) to tell arwen where she should spend her money this next week! Hurray! You lucky ducks!

If you're serious about music lessons or practicing then the guitar. I just know learning the guitar would be an even more expensive hobby. If not, then go with the camera.

I would say camera because I have a friend and she started taking the coolest pictures she loves it so much. She has all kinds of pictures beautiful sceneries, cool fairytale stuff where people dressed up.Also really funny pics too. She's a great photographer. You will love that Arwen since its your hobbie.

Arwen camera camera camera you have the talent, feed your talent.Camera has it bags packed and ready to go,why don't you go pick her up? :)

Since you're getting the guitar and its your first one you might consider getting a second hand one since it can save you a lot of money without compromising quality or sound (maybe just some cosmetic issues).

I am 80% sure that I will get the guitar. Thank you for the advice Zero :)

A guitar is a cool choice, plus it's always good to learn something new.

that's not a "cosmetic issue" that's a Character Mark. :D
On guitars it not only takes the pressure off (Ack the first scratch in the finish, my week is ruined!) it can lend credibility.
Stevie Ray Vaughn's guitar LOOKED like it could play the blues with or without him.

To be completely honest, I have a hard time convincing myself to buy a used one. What if there is something wrong with it that I didn't notice when I bought it? A part of me just wants to buy new kind of as a clean slate, if that makes sense :) Zero and Seatbelt, I posted a link on the first page of the Fender that I am considering buying. It had good reviews and I love the look. It would be nice to get your opinions if possible.

If you get a guitar: I would advise you to look into a Seagull or Art & Lutherie. They are both name brands made by the Godin company which is Canadian based. They are made in Canada, so no slave labor. The factory setup is also usually good on these guitars. Whatever you buy, buy from a place that offers a free setup. A poorly setup guitar is just going to make playing that much more difficult (just because it's new doesn't mean it doesn't have problems). Art & Lutherie is the least expensive of the Godin bunch. The ones I've had were still well built guitars. In American dollars you can get an A&L for $300 often. Some of the Seagull Entourage models also go for around $300. I'm not sure what the prices are like in Canada. Bottom line, these are quality guitars at the same price and sometimes even less than the Asian imports that just don't stack up.
Be very wary of online reviews. Some companies will only post the positive ones on their site. Then a lot of the positive reviews are from beginners who really don't know what to look for in a guitar.
Finally, look up information on humidity and acoustic guitar care if you want the guitar to last for years to come. It's going to take some care.
Hope this helps.

P.S. ~ It's too late to edit. Simon & Patrick and Norman are also by the Godin company. I haven't played those personally, but I'd guess them to be of equal quality.

Edit timer has expired again...lets go for three in a row.
I also noticed that site you're looking at buying from sells Taylor. You might want to check out the Baby Taylor (yeah, it's a really small guitar, but it sounds bigger than it should, especially the mahogany top.. $290), then there is the Taylor Big Baby (bigger version of the same guitar)...and another bit of a step up the GS Mini. All have an excellent factory setup. You can't beat Taylor for factory setup. These particular models are made just across from the border of their Cali factory in Mexico.

Alright I'm done now..I think. :D

Here's my thinking. Get the camera, since you need a good one now, and you are currently doing a lot of photography. Then save up money for a guitar down the road. Keep in mind that DSLR's are very expensive and it could take you a little while longer to save up for one. However, guitar's usually don't cost more then $200-300 and you could save that amount in the next three to four months, if you don't have a lot of extra expenses.

I was looking at a few of those but they aren't in my price range, at least for my first guitar. But that is good to know!

Ah. Welp, I am as conflicted as I was when I posted the thread *sigh*

It looks nice but I don't know anything about guitars. I'm a drummer, remember? :p :D
