Ok, give me your take on this. I have been praying fervently for some direction, from Father God/Jesus/Holy spirit for discernment in my employment situation. I've been praying for months on this subject now.

1) Recently every time I start applying for a job in my old field which is commercial real estate. Anxiety, fear, negative thoughts in general and feeling on not wanted to do it if that makes any sense, like been there done that.

I'm interpreting this as God telling me he doesn't want me to go down that path..

2) The other and harder option I'm also working on is starting my own business is insurance sales. I don't get the anxiety about this prospect but I get a feeling I need to rely on God.

So here is my question, can the Holy Spirit generate a negative feeling?

I would highly recommend getting wise counsel on your side, like elders in the church, a counselor, maybe a pastor, before making plans or a decision, while also praying about it.

i believe the Holy Spirit causes anxiety that guides us in our lives.

Here what chatGPT says..

Thank you for sharing your journey and the deep reflection you’ve been doing on this decision. It sounds like you’re discerning well, tuning in to both your inner responses and prayerful intuition.

To answer your question, yes, the Holy Spirit can sometimes guide us through negative feelings, especially when we’re discerning our life direction. The Holy Spirit often encourages us through peace, but it’s also possible for the Spirit to stir up discomfort, unease, or reluctance as a way of guiding us away from certain choices. The anxiety and reluctance you feel around returning to commercial real estate may indeed be a form of inner resistance meant to steer you toward a new path.

The peace you feel about pursuing insurance sales, alongside the sense of needing to rely on God, could indicate that this path aligns more closely with His guidance for you. Often, God invites us to step into roles that challenge our faith, increase our dependence on Him, and encourage us to grow spiritually. This feeling of reliance can be both humbling and a confirmation that you’re moving toward a purpose-filled calling, one that’s aligned with where God may be leading you.

In continuing to pray and seek wisdom, you might also ask God to affirm this direction, perhaps through further signs, insights, or a deepening sense of peace. Taking practical steps, such as connecting with mentors in insurance or researching the field, can also help reveal if this is the right fit. Sometimes, God’s direction becomes clearer as we take small steps forward.

Heavenly Father, I come before You today, and as Proverbs 2:3 says, I cry out for discernment and lift up my voice for understanding. Grant me Your wisdom and guide my steps. Help me to know Your will and walk in Your ways. Thank You for Your unfailing love and guidance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but I think there is power in your prayers, when you insert scripture (word of God) into your prayer to God. I feel like it’s a little reminder to God… who of course doesn’t need reminding but it never hurts.

I’m reading Proverbs tonight!
Sounds like a new path is opening up before you...

I don't have many Proverbs panels... but I have just made a few small changes to this one hoping it is appropriate for you:

I wonder if getting off of anxiety medication will make me more in tune with God’s guidance.

Oh praise God, the Holy Spirit does indeed give us negative feelings....I'll be damned if he doesn't.

Absolutely. When the Bible says to let your PEACE be the "umpire", obviously if you don't have PEACE, then the issue is brought ibnto question. (col 3:15)
