I'm a 16 year old girl, being one sucks enough. I have been in church since I was four, it was all uphill until about a year and a half ago. I have always had emotional issues that my parents won't acknowledge, they tell me to stop overexagerating every time I cry in front of them. I have a hard time expressing myself to others, making friends is also difficult for me. Im awkward, average, weird, eccentric, and I laugh a lot- which gives the illusion of happiness. Other girls catch the attention of guys, me on the other hand.....I've been alone 16 years straight. I'm smart; I'm going to be a first generation university student. I get stressed about school SOOOOO often. I want to go to a Christian school, which is currently out of reach financially. Stress, loneliness, and my parents always judging me lead me to depression. Depression leads me to harming myself and suicidal thoughts. I'm a smart kid, I know God doesn't want this but I am so lost right now. I have no motivation to follow God as I once did, this bothers me. I'm comfortable with my position right now. I hate myself for feeling this way. I love God but I feel indifferent towards changing, even with depression. I want to change but my mind stops me. God told me change my mindset and he will change my heart. How do I change my mindset? I'm so lost

Sorry for my life story.

Hi! :D I kind of have the same thing going on too, so I can relate to you in this matter. I'm confused as well of what to do. Things went south for me in the past and still is. I feel like I am carrying the weight of the world on my shoulder because of these problems I am struggling from. I know that this isn't what God wants me to feel. So, I'm holding on to His words that "He'll never forsake me" and will stay beside me no matter what. As of now, I'm doing my best to change the feeling of hopelessness inside me every time I feel it. I listen to songs that will strengthen me, listen to messages from the Bible. I too laugh a lot which gives people the wrong thought that I'm so care-free and problem-free but inside I'm breaking. I'm a self kept person so I don't really talk to my parents about it specially right now that my mom is sick. I don't want to add negativity in the house and I don't have much friends to talk to as well. But as a grown up, I'm learning how to cope with sadness and how to give it to the Lord. So the only advice I can give you is draw closer to GOD and He'll reveal to you what you should do to change your mind. Read scriptures from His Word and listen to uplifting songs. It won't be an instant thing, like the process of healing it will take time but you shouldn't forget to smile " genuinely" because it helps. :) . And you can bond with the people here too and they could help you specially those mature Christians. You can beep me up as well :). Hope you'll feel better, sorry if I'm not much of help. Lol. :D "smile genuinely".

Pray. God WILL get you through this hard time, you just have to have faith that he will. As for guys, let it go. god will bring the right man into your life when the timing is right. Don't feel like no one is out there for you just because you haven't found one yet. You and I are both still young, and have a lot of wonderful things coming our way. Stay strong in God and never lose hope. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope mad a future." Just remember that God is on your side, and is there to help you every step of the way:)

How do I change my mindset?

Study the word of God and obey it :) For example:

Luke 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.

Be careful about the things you look at, listen to, take in, etc..

Philippians 4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

If it doesn't resemble the things on this list, ignore it. We have to think about something, and God says it should be these things.

Psalm 27:10 Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.

In all honesty, I don't understand how anybody can take a long hard look at the world and not get depressed. It's just a fallen world greatly populated with liars, bullies and users. That's the reason Jesus came to liberate us from it. Once we accept Him as Lord we are no longer part of it. We are citizens of Heaven and here on a missionary trip. We become adopted by Almighty God are heirs with Christ. We are not here to fill our pockets with these carnal treasures. People lose sight of this and think we are supposed to be happy here. They spend their lives thinking when I get that dream job I will be happy, when I find that special someone I will be happy, when I'm done school, when I have kids, when I lose weight. It's all fleeting. Everything comes with strings attached here on earth. A great job means you have to stay on top to keep it enslaving you to it. Relationships are a combination of two messed up people generating a messed up life with conflicting priorities often ending in divorce and broken families. Kids are great, I have four but that means you are no longer responsible only for you. All of their problems effect you. Anyway you get the picture. Many things in this world can provide pleasure but there is only one thing that satisfies. Pleasure doesn't last, chasing happiness is Satan's bait. Looking to Christ puts all of the darkness and despair of this world into perspective. We are here to bless others and represent God. Work as though it is for God because it is. Pray continually and live rightly. Enjoy the peace of God which you will only experience when you cast your cares on Jesus.
