Hello, I have just joined today as I wanted to get some fasting advice from Christians.

I am on day 7 of a water only fast. I am experiencing horrendous indigestion and acid burn. I was hoping to have just water but I have had to start taking ranitidine just to take the edge off it. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do? I am having good times with God and apart from intermittent cravings am doing ok otherwise.

I have acid reflux but haven't had problems when fasting. If this is a medical condition for you, I don't think taking the meds will affect the fast. I would ask if this is your first fast. If so 7 days may be a bit long to start off with.

Just asking, but you know it's fasting and prayer, right? Without the prayer you're just starving.

God bless you for acting in faith.

Thank you for your good advice. I don't normally suffer from indigestion. This is the longest fast I have done so far, but have done several of 3-5 days. Good reminder about prayer. I am having some good times with God. I think I maybe need to pray about answers for this as my son and daughter have been battling fear recently. With Jesus help and many wonderful pictures and verses from Him, we seem to have conquered this, but interestingly with one it was a fear of being sick and the other a fear of being unable to swallow, but with both the slightest burp or reflux was enough to bring on the fear. So maybe it's linked. I think I need to pray some more.

The longest fast I have done is for 8 days. I admit I did drink some other things besides water, But I work constuction and I would not be able to work without something more to power me. But it was not much.
As my brother said, Have you been praying? As said, fasting without prayer is just starving. God should take the place of nourishment. You should focus on Him entirely. One thing I normally suggest while fasting, is to take a "fast" from TV, or anything you normally do in your free time. Or you will start using that thing to distract you from eating. When you should be focusing on God.

I suggest prayer though. I cannot really see why you would be having acid or anything, normally fasting cures that type of thing. So I would just say to pray.

God bless you.

I remember the first time as a baby christian, I asked some brothers (christian) about fasting and one of them told me, ''My idea of a fast is a Big Mac, but hold the fries!''
(I know, I know, that wasn't very encouraging :(

Thank you Taith. I think I'd better stop distracting myself online and go and pray!!
Thanks everyone.

Meant to say that verse you have tagged on RickyZ, 2 Kings 6 v 17, has been a real blessing. Re-read it half an hour ago. How awesome is our God!

Not to deter anyone from this but I personally have found that taking the reflux meds without food in your stomach will just make nausea worse.

This is good advice. When I start doing this I will keep this in mind.
