Here's a few questions that i've been dying to ask a good christian friend...

Hi,

I've been fighting off frustration for a long time... My dad keeps telling me that one should do a lot of things in the Lord.. bt then being an adult you are entitled to a certain amount of freedom without your parents giving you the religious talk.. I say religious talk because to my dad every evil thought is from "Satan", which i totally don't agree with... cos there are things like carnal thoughts...

I have a few questions:

Is it wrong to dance?
Is it wrong to be a social drinker?
Is it wrong to hang out with guy friends?
If one is frustrated with loneliness what does one do???

Please let me know...

The answer to the first three is no. However, it may prove unwise to do any of those things. There's nothing wrong with dancing, but it can lead to sinning. Same with social drinking. There's nothing sinful about the substance, but drunkeness, and any dependancy that may come from it. Dependancy is idolatry. Also, most places where social drinking is done are less than reputiable places. And with the guy friends, nothing is wrong with it, but it can be unwise, since most dudes easily misinterperate wanting to hang out with them to mean that you're madly in love with them. This has to be decided on an individual basis, and it can vary with each situation. If you aren't able to decide, then you shouldn't do it. Basically, if you think it could tempt you to sin, just avoid it.

As for the last one, talk to Jesus. Prayer isn't just requests, you can talk to God like he's a friend.

To dance?- Depends. Are you just dancing around being stupid? If you are, are you trying to look "sexy"? Are there guys present? If you're dancing WITH a guy, is the dancing appropriate, or are you dumping and grinding?

There is dancing in the Bible, when people became so overjoyed about God. It's perfectly appropriate, in the right context.


To drink?- Not sure. Like the above poster said, drunkenness is definitely a sin. I'm not entirely against it, though I probably wouldn't do it myself. I say that if you really want to, you could try it, but you must stop if you see that it is likely to lead to sin in your circumstance. You could always just ask for water =D


To hang out with guy friends?- DEFINITELY not. I'm a guy, and most of my friends are girls! As a guy, I know a bunch of guys that would be unwise to make friends with, and likewise for girls. I say pick CHRISTIAN friends, and gender will not matter ^_^


As for dealing with loneliness, I got nothin' for you... I may as well just say what the above poster said, and pray about it ^_^ Not only will Jesus keep you company in the meantime, but you are bound to find other, Godly friends soon enough =D

I would say no, at least most of the time, if your dirty dancing at clubs and such yeah probably not the best idea. But in general dancing can be fun.

Is it wrong to be a social drinker?

I think drinking is personal choice and isnt based upon religion I know christians and non-christians alike that refuse to ever drink. And I know christians that do social drink, Ill probably be one of the latter when im over 21, I think its just a choice and as long as your not getting drunk and doing things you wouldnt normally do then i believe its ok.

Is it wrong to hang out with guy friends?

NO, it is not wrong to hangout with guy friends. If you are intentionally leading guys on thats wrong yes. Prior to getting a boyfriend I would say at least half my friends were guys including the guy I eventually dated, and they remained my friends after I had a boyfriend, and now again when I'm single, its the same to me as having girl friends. Sometimes though feelings can develop in one or both of you and this can cause issues.

That is hard, loneliess is something not fun to deal with, Ive been there. I would say just try to get into a good christian organization and make friends that can further you in your search forGod. And you are never alone, God is always there.

Dancing - I agree 100% with Vidy's answer.(Even the "dumping", and grinding lol. I'm sorry, but that made me laugh for the first time in 3 days)

Drinking - I think someone needs to look at the reason as to WHY they are drinking.

Guy friends - No, as long as it friends, and not lustful from either sex.

Lonliness - I'm 41, and never been married, and never had a real relationship. Yes, it's VERY frustrating on the one hand, but I thank God for it because I know that I've never been ready.

Is it wrong to dance?

In general, I'd say no. For example, David danced in the Old Testament, while worshipping God. However, I feel caution is waranted where "suggestive" dancing is concerned. Lust is definitely described as sin in Scripture, and the Bible also says to avoid things in mixed company which may cause our brethren to stumble spiritually. If so-called "dirty dancing" is what you're asking about, my opinion is that it should be kept solely between a husband and wife, in the privacy of their home.

Is it wrong to be a social drinker?

I'd say it depends on what you mean by "social". The drinking of alcohol is not totally forbidden by God in the Bible, but becoming drunk certainly is. As such, I see no inherent problem with it as long as you don't cross that boundary.

Is it wrong to hang out with guy friends?

In my opinion, it depends on the reasons behind such interaction. Generally, married people would be taking more of a risk by associating with a lot of opposite-sex friends outside of their spouse...however, that doesn't mean its inherently wrong.

Well, this is the so-called "million dollar question". There are several answers, but I suppose the first one would be "take it to God". I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear - I hate hearing it, too - but God can do so much more than anyone else can. It's not easy (I'm actually wrestling with this a lot myself), but that would be a good first step. Talk to God, and tell him what you're feeling. Even if you're angry, just remember He's God...He can take it. I think those who say, "You don't get mad at God" or "You don't question God" are full of it. I find myself doing both on a regular basis, and I'm still alive.

Secondly, I'd say that if you're a member of a church, see if they have any small groups that you would be interested in. Also, engage yourself in group activities, like going bowling, swimming, or to a movie with several other people.

Is it wrong to dance?
If its for the Lord then No, But if its like dirty dancing then YES ofcourse, Also dancing were you are rubbing on each other chest, bottom parts, belly, back, butt, then yes thats also WRONG.
But if its something like wedding dance when you get married im guessing its not.
I been told before that if its not a dance for God then its not really good to dance, like for example clubs & parties NOT good.
You can say its good but its not. People drink, have sex, dance on each other, fight , do drugs in clubs. bad croud to hang around with.


Is it wrong to be a social drinker? Im not sure about this one but i DO know that is NOT good to get drunk because when you get drunk you loss your sences & do stupid things & things you REALLY regret later or things that God does NOT like.
Like for example one night stands.

If you are a girl then i dont really know but im guessing as long as your not flirting, or messing around with them meaning kissing, grabbing here & there hugging all up on each other & so on.

Pray to God, I understand that lonly feeling i been there, The way that lonely feeling went away for good for me was Reading the bible & talking to God, about whats going in my life, who i liked,school problems, real life problems & my feelings & all that. He listens =D

Also by praying, It gets you closer to God =) Dont forget to ask for forgiveness for your sins.
I think a while back i prayed for him to help me not feel so lonely or something like that & now i dont mind being alone like. I used to be depressed so i really wanted someone there for me, but instead once i started getting closer to God i was able to let go of all those people because God gave me strenght & put it in me to only want TRUE friends in my life, & i was actually happier =D without all those people who i TAUGHT were my friends, But with God & my family i was able to be happy =D

Now Sure at times it might get a lil boring in school but guess what it helps me focus & do my school work faster instead of getting into bad things like skipping school & fighting. I have my boyfriend who has Gone to church with me more than once =D & his sister as friends at my school =D & another christian guy which is good to surround myself with because that way we can talk about God & can sometimes remind me God does NOT like that or i can remind them that =D
So if you dont want to be lonely please surround yourself with Christian friends =D Or tell your friends about God & read the bible together =) & if in time they can't accept God or you loving God then they are not worth being your friends.
So if you feel alone remember you are NOT alone God is there & you can use that lonely time to pray to him =D & talk to him =D
