Do you ever dig yourself a hole, unintenionally and the more you try and make it a better situation the more the dirt piles, you are scooping dirt but more falls. Its overwhelming do you stop digging or keep trying.
 
Most of the time, stop digging. All you can really do is apologize to whomever and try your best to rectify the situation. See, by continuing to dig, you're performing an act of insanity. Put the shovel down and step away from the hole.
