Yes, assurance is better, (but mere belief is sufficient to get salvation started :^)
Perhaps we grow in assurance as we grow up in the Lord.

Yes; however, I wonder about many others on here after starting my own similar thread in 2020 to give folks the opportunity to say "I know that I know that I know" (<-- thread link) and having such a dismal response...The question is, are you as assured of your own salvation?

Hmmm - why are so few of the folks on here willing to say that they know they are born-again?
I do not want to detract from your thread too much; however, I would like to post yet again the song it was/is based on:
It is yet to be seen how many folks will post in your thread to indicate that they are sure of their salvation.

0 doubt
I say
We need to be careful about simplifying this instruction given to this man by the pastor
"Believe on Jesus!".
Well I guess you could say Believe on Jesus
I think----- believe in Jesus----- is a better way of saying it ----and I think all scripture says Believe IN Jesus ----not On Jesus --just saying
From AI
In the New Testament, "believe in" Christ is used in several places, including:
Now that being said -----Is the Pastor himself really Saved ?????
- John 3:16: "Whoever believes in him"
- John 1:12: "Those who believe in his name"
He says this ----
" I don't need this, I'm not going down, I'm going up!"
I say
So it seems he is a Saved Person -???---but there are many Pastors who may think they are Saved and they are really not Saved and so we can only Hope that this Pastor Had the Right Faith to be Saved ----
Oh I am quite sure the pastor was saved. He was preaching the Gospel to others
Many False Prophets are preaching the Gospel today ---like they were in Jesus time -the Pharisees were False prophets teaching their own doctrine ---Jesus called them Hypocrites ----
So watch out Folks ----who you listen to ------

Another survey found that as many as 16 percent of the Church of England's licensed ministers have doubts about God. Membership in The Clergy Project has increased ten-fold in just a few years.
This indicates that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of atheist clergy.Apr 21, 2024
People also ask
Can an atheist be a minister?
An atheist can be a pastor in any church and I bet a lot of them are.
I heard a story last night that made me ask myself the question in the thread. It came out of nowhere. Hubby and I were watching a video about visiting the Titanic museum in TN.It is of interest to me because the disaster happened close to where I grew up and I've heard the story often. But at the very end of the video one of the folk that works there told this amazing story. I haven't really looked into it yet but it made me think deeply on this question of assurance.
Apparently there was a particular minister on the ship. He was heading to preach at Moody's church in America. When he realized the great ship was going down he began calling out " Women, children and the unsaved, get in the lifeboats"!! He passed a man without a life vest and asked him if he was saved. When the man said he wasn't, he gave him his life vest and said " I don't need this, I'm not going down, I'm going up!" The pastor grabbed something to hold on to and he floated past a man he shouted to him " Are you saved?!" the man said that he wasn't. The pastor said "Believe on Jesus!". Some time later the pastor passed the man again and shouted " Are you saved yet?!!" The man said no, that he didn't think he was. The pastor said " Believe on the Lord and you will be saved!!" That was the last time the man saw the preacher, but he said he did indeed become saved that night. What a testimony! What an assurance! The preacher still had souls on his mind up till his last breath. The question is, are you as assured of your own salvation?
Since when does having "doubts" about God make one an atheist?Another survey found that as many as 16 percent of the Church of England's licensed ministers

It doesn't matter, because the preacher was saved by faith and not by working up assurance.
Now I WILL admit that I am an introvert, so I was not comfortable witnessing for Christ until I learned enough of GW to give me enough confidence that I knew why I believed what I believed to overcome my shyness. :^)
He was on the Titanic because he was on his way to preach at a church in America. He definitely knew the Lord.
So now your saying your all knowing like God and you know that he was saved .
Are you joking?! Are you saying that you should assume every pastor is an atheist?
No ---I am saying that you said you know this mam Had the Holy Spirit and is a true Christian cause he was preaching the Gospel ----
I am saying YOU have no real proof that this Man preaching the Gospel is a Saved Man cause you don't know if this man has the indwelling of the Holy spirit ---and that is the only way as person can become a saved person and a real God preaching Minister who preaches what the Holy spirit tells them to preach -----
Your the ONE making the claim that He is a True Christian ----when you have no idea if he is or isn't ----
Anyone can get a bible out and preach the words in God's book ---but that does NOT mean that they are True Christians ------
That is what I am saying ----
AND ----------- you make the claim that He is a true Holy spirit filled person --a Real Minister --so the burden of proof is on you to show that he has the Holy Spirit indwelling in him ------and you can't -----

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control
If you don't see that in the story of this man, you're blind.
