How can we be purged of our sins?
• Zephaniah 3:9 -> “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord. ”.
One of the requirements to evoke the name of the Creator and serve Him correctly, together with the Church, is a pure speech.
It comes the question: but I can’t evoke Jesus’ name with impure lips? See what took place with Isaiah:
• Isa 6:5-7 -> “And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” (Isa 6:5-7).
Observe that it was necessary the purification of the lips of Isaiah so that He could stay seeing the Creator and to hear His voice. Nowadays, most of the followers of Christ doesn’t take seriously this question. Note that the burning coal was taken away by the seraph with a tong. And don’t think that it was in virtue of the heat. After the seraph take the burning coal from the altar, he touched Isaiah’s lips with it and he didn’t burn.
That is to say, the altar was so holy that, even the hand of a seraph could desecrate it.
It was a coal coming from a place so holy which made the sin and guilt of Isaiah disappear. And where did this coal touch? His lips.
We know that:
• Luk 6:45 -> “The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”.
And Jesus said how to procure the purification:
• Luk 11:41 -> “But give as alms those things that are within, and behold, everything is clean for you.”.
So, our heart is purified when we love our neighbor as Jesus loved us (John 13:34,35). This is the burning coal which comes from the golden altar (incense) that is before the Creator.
So, have a good day valuing the purity of your lips which you can get, speaking only what is good for edification of people around you (Eph 4:29) in Jesus’ love.
