Why am I blogging about this subject? Because there is so much discussion about wifely submission on the internet (CC included). However, in comparison,so little is written about the husband’s role to love his wife, and so much of what’s written about a husband’s duty to love his wife is twisted to mean a husband’s right to discipline, punish, beat his wife. There are even some post like that right here on CC.
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her … Ephesians 5:25
That verse brings to mind a very important question. How did Christ love the church? Jesus died for the church, and that’s tremendous, but Jesus also expressed his LOVE for the church in a myriad of other ways.
With that being said, I would like to look at scripture and see how Christ loved the church.

How did Jesus LOVE the Church?
Jesus FORGAVE the church. Ephesians 4:32
Jesus showed COMPASSION. Matthew 9:36, Matthew 14:14, Matthew 15:32, Mark 6:34, Mark 8:2
Jesus was HUMBLE. Philippians 2:5-8, Matthew 11:29, Matthew 21:5, John 13:1-7
Jesus was NOT SELF SEEKING. His goal was to please and do the will of his Heavenly Father, so he could be a blessing to the church. John 5:30, John 6:38 Matthew 26:39
Jesus promoted PEACE. John 20:21, John 16:33, John 14:27

Jesus proclaimed JUSTICE. Matthew 12:18

Jesus SUFFERED for the church. 1 Peter 4:1-2
Jesus came to SERVE the church. Mark 10:45 Matthew 20:28
Jesus stopped calling the church slaves and started calling the church FRIENDS. John 15:15

- be humble to his wife
- not seek his own way
- be peaceful with his wife
- pray for his wife
- be truthful with his wife
- seek justice for his wife
- give to his wife rather than take from her
- suffer for his wife
- serve his wife
- view his wife as friend rather than his slave.
