How do I not grieve and quench the Holy Spirit?

Brother you are on the right track, you realize you have sin in your life and are acknowledging it or bringing it to light. Most new believers like me, think they are sinless. I remember thinking I was not sinning, because I thought sin was the act and not the thought of sin. Here's a Scripture that helped me, but you already have it in practice, very mature.
I John 1:8-10 "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
The word "confess" here in first John means to agree. So if we agree with God that we have sin He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Like I memntioned Brother you are on the right track and are not grieving the Holy Spirit by confessing your sins.
You seem to be setting your mind on the things of God or the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:1-6 "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God."
I see the Spirit working in you, so keep growing as you are Brother, let the Spirit led you and guide you in the way of the Lord. God Bless my Brother, I wish I was as muture as you are when I was a new believer.

We grieve the Holy spirit by not giving out words of grace to others.
Ephesians 4:29-32 (NASB)
[SUP] [/SUP] Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.
The only time recorded that Jesus was angered ( I also believe He was angry at the temple when He drove them out but the scripture doesn't come right out and say that as it does here )
- was when the religious people refused to allow grace to be shown to someone....the religious folk had "their" holiness rules and so were refusing the grace of God to come to people but Jesus our Lord stepped in as He always will for us,

Joseph - In order not to "count up your sins" everyday, and become more self-centered rather than God-centered, learn to walk lightly, playfully, intimately, lovingly, throughout the day with Him.
When our focus is mostly on Him and His great love and mercy towards us, we slowly begin to not need to do those sinful things any longer, and remember that you begin to absorb what you are in the presence of. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and you will find that His nature will become more and more yours.

you grieve the holy spirit by not telling him about your sin, and continuing it anyway without trying to repent. by doing so you resist him and grieve him. at the same time remember Jesus said himself to frogive your brother if he sins against you 70x7 times a day. just in a day! i think Jesus practices what he preaches.
To grieve the Holy Spirit is to moan and complain about doing what's right. You've seen someone grieve at a funeral, now apply that reaction to being spiritually clean. An old teen acquaintance comes to mind. She liked black, skulls, heavy metal, tattoos, etc. And when her mom made her go to church she would whine and drag her feet.
It is typical for kids to not want to do responsible things, but if the person you are, in your inner soul, detests, hates, and grieves the very thought of what is holy, pure, and good, how can you live an eternity with a holy God when you hate holiness? I am like Paul, the good I want to do I don't always do, but at least I want to do what is holy and right, and my soul don't grieve at the very thought of it, just the opposite. My soul rejoices in doing what's right and good- but that's not the case for all people.

Paul said he was a wretched man and from what I see 1 sin is enough to grieve God. I sin more than I can count everyday. So how do I not grieve the Holy Spirit when I sin like that every day?
Hate sin,and do not want sin,and allow the Spirit to lead you.
Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Do you guys want to know how to not grieve the Holy Spirit? By trusting the finished work of the cross by faith alone without works. God will not grieve about your sins anymore because he will not remember them. Legalism will grieve God because then religious people try to add on extra works to the finished work of the cross which makes the finished work of the cross void to those people. If a person is going to willfully sin in unbelief then God will remember their sins and be grieved about them. If a born again believer willfully sins then God will not remember their sins and not be grieved about them. We all willfully sin wither we are lost or saved. But what makes the difference is the gift of faith without works. We should also let the grace of God mold us to take out sins in our lives and abstain from sin using prayer continually when the tempter comes to tempt us.
We are all wretched. But this is not about God grieving, this is about the Christian being disappointed or saddened at the thought of being holy or spiritually clean. It's about not wanting to be holy, and not wanting the Holy Spirit. I grieve when I sin, but there are those, believe it or not, who grieve when they do what's right.
Do you not "see" the blood of Christ cleansing you from all unrighteousness? Heb. 9:14
Do you not "see" the righteousness of Christ covering you? Isa. 61:10

And you grieve the Holy Spirit at the moment you choose to do what is wrong and know better. He must grieve because you choose to satisfy yourself instead of "dying to self" and putting His purposes for your life first. Then the sin becomes a question of if you have given your life to Christ or not? Living for Christ does take sacrifices on our part. Jesus even said "Take up your cross and follow me."

We can take die daily out of context with legalistic doctrine and say we have to die to sin everyday which is what defiled religion teaches in the churches. But we can take die daily in to context and see it means to be ready to die every day a death for the word of God. For example spreading the gospel and someone wants to kill you for doing that. The fact is when a person is in the body of Christ they are already dead to sin and alive to God. We are not here to re-crucify the Son of God on the cross everyday.
The pure grace gospel that I have can set two kinds of people free. Lost sinners and born again believers who are under attack with legalistic religious doctrine. You guys see I don't have to worry about my sin. I don't have to worry about grieving or quenching the Holy Spirit. I don't have to worry about the Holy Spirit convicting me of my sin. Because I know through the finished work of the cross I have been set free from the law, conviction of sin, grieving God, and completely set free from sin. Because I am free from sin I can serve righteousness lead by the Holy Spirit.
You not only need to be ready to die in the line of duty, but to die to sin every day. Romans 6:1 says we died to sin, how can we live in it any longer? We can't, because if we did we would no longer be Christians... "But if you sin willfully there no longer remains a sacrifice for your sins." (willfully means premeditated and ongoing, and no longer means it once genuinely did). We all sin, but those who use grace as a license to sin (give up effort not to sin) will lose their grace.
"If anyone is willing to follow Me, he must take up his cross daily and follow Me."
There is nothing about our flesh that pleases God. We died to the power of sin one time on the day of salvation. We are not dying to sin everyday crucifying the flesh everyday when we already died to the power of sin. The only way to become dead to sin is through spiritual baptism. You are not being spiritually baptized everyday. When a person is spiritually baptized one time they become to dead to sin forever and their sins remain buried forever. You walk alive to God everyday. Christ died for our sins once and not everyday.
Ro 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Ro 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
