You could couple this with 1 co 13:4-7 to see God's love and our response to it.

By keeping His commandments.
Jesus said, “IF YOU LOVE me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15. And again, “you are my friends if you do what I say.” John 15:14. Jesus says, one way we show Him that we love Him is by obeying His commandments.

We can see this in our own children. When we tell them to do something or not do something and they “obey” , we are pleased.

By hungering and thirsting after righteousness.
When we “hunger and thirst after righteousness” as Jesus said in the Beatitudes, we do it because we LOVE God and His righteousness.

By studying His word.
Faith comes by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17. So when we “study” the word of God as Paul says to do in 2Tim. 2:15, we strengthen our faith, and we do it to know more about God. It increases our love for Him.

We learn from 1 John 4:19 that we love Him because He first loved us; and He loved us while we were still sinners. That causes me to love Him even more.

Just a few thoughts.

The Love God presents to us is the fulfillment of all Law
This Love is not revealed in the Ten Commands, yet is in truth, is the meaning of the ten
The first four are Love God, Father first above everything else
The last six are neighbor as self
Then later, in his risen life, he added love your neighbor as I have loved you
Well look at that cross he went to!
how are you Loved? completely or not? then love everyone else the same as you see you are loved first you think ? Then, see to not accuse or excuse anymore as have in past
Romans 2:1-4 thank you

for me personally I fell in love with him, when you fall in love with someone your heart beats only for them, your soul yearns only for them your every breath breathes only for them your thoughts think solely for them.

It is one thing to obey and serve it is another entirely to fall in love

This was spoken when the law of sin and death was active for all.

Because Christ fulfilled the law, the only way to please God is to be placed into Him. But to be placed into Christ you must die.

”For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

The law of sin and death has no effect upon a dead person. Now, we must love as Christ loved. So, He gave us a new commandment about love:

”A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

This is only possible in Christ.

that gets fulfilled in us while we still alive in flesh and blood, still living. these, the done work takes one thought to be in the obedience of Christ, even though that night not be all the time. It is done by Son to be in like flint and out like Alexander Monday, a transformation not misusing this or harming or defrauding anyone as God knows us all, therefore, these new kids reckon themselves as already dead to sin as in Romans 6:12, best to read from verse 1 for me at least
then seeing Acts 17:28, again read the entire Chapter also.
Also then one can say it like Paul in Galatians 2:20
I am crucified (Dead to sin) with Christ. Brought back to life in God Father's Spirit and truth to lead in love and mercy to all, thanks you Father wow!

Yes. This this is how we now live in Christ:

"..those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God."

"For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."

Reckoning ourselves dead in Christ accomplishes this and guarantees two outcomes:

1. Being given, by God, the same life with which He raised Christ from the dead.

"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who dwells in you."

2. The end of sin in our mortal bodies.

"For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

It is only in Christ Jesus that this is possible.

How do we do that? Very imperfectly. Can any one of us honestly say that we perfectly love God with all our soul, mind and strength? I believe that Jesus's summary of the Commandments shows the impossibility in this life of sinless perfection.

Thank you
Now, whoever is not learning, whoever thinks they got it, might have pride in them taking them for a ride
Guilt and pride, I see is what my daddy hates in his children. therefore I see to not think I know and know at the same time, a perplexity to see all God Father and Son as Won One for us to be humble in and hopefully no more sin. Seeing "I" can't keep from it, I need Father's lead in risen son through me daily, knowing if I sin again and have, to put it behind me, and continue moving. forward in the love and mercy given me that does not stop from Daddy's sight, blows my mind daily in humility Phil 3

MARK 12:30
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
The message tbat God loves us so much that he sent his only begotten and perfect son to suffer our consequences on our behalf that he laid down his life to save ours

this message is meant to if one actually believes it , it’s meant to win the heart of the person . Part of it is that they realize they are a sinner and they are condemned by thier sins . If we understand that part then the message will impact our heart because he gave his life for us

what’s needed for us to act properly towards God is to at the first accept the message that he loves us so much that he gave his beloved and perfect son to save us from what we’ve all done wrong . That’s the seed that grows into our actions being. Corrected and us beginning to express his love to others the same sacrificial love he showed all of us

“Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:16-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In truth we are loving God properly when we are loving. One another as he commanded us to do .

“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:2-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

think of Gods commandments to mankind “ don’t kill other people “ “ don’t lie to other people “ don’t cheat on your spouse another person “ “ don’t envy and covet other peoples things “ ect

God has always been commanding us to treat each other with love . Loving God is shown forth when we are loving others in his name and in his ways.

If we hate people it’s really hard to then love God

“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

think of that Gods commandments are to love each other so if we want to love God then loving each other is his Will and fulfills the requirements

The topic of this thread is actually a very good question.

If we take into consideration when Jesus said this around 31-33 A.D. what were the major distractions for the average person during that time period?

They didn't have to contend with television, radio, electronics, the fast food mentality effect, 2 full time working parents and children many times raising themselves, or any of the other issues we now face in a modern society.

Generally speaking, they probably had a lot of free spare time to spend much of their day thinking about God and wishing for the Messiah to come because they were being abused daily by the Roman Empire.

In today's society, to have a lot of spare time to devote to studying the Word of God one is either unemployed or have medical reasons allowing them to be free. And if you are a preacher and paid by the board then this should allow the spare time needed to be so devoted.

Other than that, you are working while thinking-praying-worshiping God in your thoughts. But there's still too much distraction to be solely focused on God enough to think one is loving Him with all that the person is.

I have thought about this very issue many times wondering how much am I lacking from being able to give my All to God because I also need to focus on the other 20 things I am supposed to be doing as a husband, father, employee, citizen, member of the congregation, and everything else involved with life coaching my children and being involved in their own interests?

Just do everything you do as if you are doing it for God and his will and that will more than suffice

Amen!

Very insightful and wise answer from you.
I love it!
Yep simple answer but true he doesn't ask more from you than you can give he cares far more about the motives of the heart than anything else that is what being stong in the Lord is a righteous heart and that righteousness is shown in your daily motives

Just Do Everything You Do as if You are Doing it for God. How true is this?
How about in the case of Saul?
Saul did everything to God that is why he spare All the Best to Sacrifice unto the Lord God but God became angry with Saul.

1 SAMUEL 15:2-9 & 15

2 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

6 And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

7 And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.

8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.
