This was the subject of today's sermon, as we read through Luke 24:36-49 and part of 1 Corinthians 15. It got me rethinking where I am in life and realized there are things I need to change. How does the Gospel stack up in your life, and how do you try to live it?

I fail in so many ways...daily but I think the point is to never give up trying. How can we even begin to love as Jesus did? I think we can start by making more of an effort to share the Gospel and try to be different, to be a light in a dark world. For me that is a foundation to build everything else on.

You said above "there are things I need to change". First of all the only thing you have the power to change in your life is where you place your faith and that we have to do. Start by placing your faith in Jesus and what sacrifice he made for you on the cross. In other words your focus has to be on Him and your faith in what He done on the cross. When our faith is in Him and not in our own works then that is when we move from "walking in the flesh" to "walking in the spirit". The gospel of Jesus Christ is: Jesus Christ crucified. Period. He did not bring the new covenant but He is the new covenant. Don't add to that gospel or take away from it. He saved us from our sin at calvary's cross and when we keep our faith there everyday all day long then the Holy Spirit will help us to overcome sin vs. being under the dominion of sin. This practice works, putting your faith in yourself never will work, such as trying harder or doing more like going to church more or praying more or reading the bible more or fasting more etc... those things are great but will not help you overcome sin. Sin was dealt with at the cross and defeated there and only there and by only one person, Jesus Christ.

I heard of Jesus when I was four years old and my heart rejoiced, yet be that as it may, for many years I definitely lived life like a prodigal son -- too much wine, women and song. Now its pretty much just song, thanks to the Gospel.

I may have posted this some time ago but I think it bears repeating. 

When my oldest son was a little child, he was extremely independent and insisted on doing things his own way without anyone else’s help. To him, needing assistance was equivalent to being weak. Only when he would get himself in a bind and had no other resources would he call out for me to help him. You can imagine how sad my heart was to have to watch him struggle desperately with something. But how glad I got when he would come to the end of himself and come running to me in tears with the belief that I would make things all better.

I totally see God the Father in that way. It does not make the LORD happy to watch us struggling to be good and trying not to sin and failing repeatedly. It gives God no joy for us to believe we don’t need Him except in cases of emergency, when we run completely out of our own resources.

The LORD is blessed when we depend on Him to keep us holy, when we are enraptured by His great love, when we don’t want to leave His side for a moment, when we let Him do a thing through us and give Him all the glory and honor. When we are His completely.

The Gospel, the Good News is that Jesus Christ redeemed us and has set us 100% free from sin.

The Gospel changed my priorities to not living for myself anymore. It is no longer "about me".... but about Him and others.

I cant imagine a day I get up and go to work that I don't at least take some time to study truth from the gospel..it becomes the strength of out lives, its what gives us boldness to go out and face the world and always have a sense of joy and peace. It is in fact our daily bread :)

Thank you all for the feedback and stories! For someone who is trying to find his way out of the darkness and to the arms of Christ, it's been really appreciated hearing different thoughts and advice. Going back to church for the first time in a few months was a good start.

The gospel didn't just change my priorities, it transformed my life!

Although I sometimes fail to live up to the call of Christ, I try and keep my eyes fixed on Jesus. I try and follow him with all my strength, heart, soul and mind.

I do try and keep good relationships with my family and friends, but also reach out to the hurting, and give to those who are needy. I could never do that in my own strength.

Jesus is the answer. There is no question!
