How Far Are You Willing to Move for Love?

This is a question many of us may eventually have to face. Younger people are often more willing to move far away, but the older you get, the harder it becomes. By middle age you usually have a stable job, children, maybe grandchildren, and close friends.

Personally, I would prefer to stay within my own country for many of the reasons mentioned above. Plus, it feels reassuring to live in a country with free healthcare if you need ongoing medical care.

Give me a destination and I am on my way.

I chose to move about 1000 miles at 33 so my wife could be close to her family.

Also moved from a big city (100k + people )surrounded by big cities (60k+ per city) into a small "town" (300 people) surrounded by mountains.

mmm well in New Zealand the public health system is under a lot of strain, but it has actually improved I think and its actually pretty good by world standards. Lots of NZers have moved to Australia, as it has more opportunities, better pay, things are cheaper relatively. Cost of living has gone sky high for most ordinary people, only if you are super rich will you not be affected.

Ha I don't have any of the things nearing middle age (not quite there yet) except for close friends. Lots of people my age have been laid off. I might have done it when I was younger, and if I found love ie a real partner/spouse I would have considered moving to be with them permanently of course, but that didn't happen so ...?

People/random strangers you find off the internet don't count for me, I think I need to genuinely know them for a length of time intimately before I would consider such a life-changing move. So sorry for anyone who's looking. I just want to chat with people not necessarily jump into bed with them. I have actually met some people like this and it's incredibly risky, well for women at least because you know absolutely nothing about them except what they tell you, and they could be lying!!

Caveat, my mother left her country behind to be with my dad, so, she did it. But she wanted to leave before that because things were dire in the motherland. I think a lot of people do this for these reasons, not necessarily for love...love is a bonus I think.

Here in the Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden etc.) you basically get free healthcare with a residence permit. It is not fully free, but very affordable, usually just a few tens of euros per visit.

You get the permit by finding a job here or marrying someone who lives here. Citizenship is not required.

I agree moving is tough after 40. Still, I might have to consider it someday. All women in my church are married. I know no single Christians near my age, and no single person in their 40s has ever joined our church. Even if a visitor appeared, a short visit is unlikely to lead to exchanging contacts or mutual feelings. This is not about being picky or not good enough. There simply are no singles in these circles.

I am in my 40s as well and you are correct it seems there are not many singles my age at church.
