Now in regard to the word "water" in John 3:5, Jesus did not mention baptism but in the very next chapter Jesus mentions "living water" in John 4:10, 14 and connects it with everlasting life and in John 7:38-39, we read - "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the source of living water and spiritual cleansing.

If "water" is defined as baptism, then we could just as justifiably say, "Out of his heart will flow rivers of living baptism" in John 7:38. If this sounds ridiculous, it is no more so than the idea that water baptism is the source or the means of becoming born again. So to automatically read "baptism" into John 3:5 simply because it mentions "water" is unwarranted.

We can also see from scripture that "water" is used in the Bible as an emblem of the word of God, and in such uses it is associated with cleansing or washing. (John 15:3; Ephesians 5:26) When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begets new life and we are said to become "partakers of the divine nature." (2 Peter 1:4) The new birth is brought to pass through "incorruptible seed, by the Word of God, which lives and abides forever" (I Peter 1:23) and the Holy Spirit accomplishes the washing of regeneration. (Titus 3:5)

So, you need scripture that states faith removes our sins? Acts 13:38 - Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Acts 26:18 - to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.

Romans 3:24 - being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

So, it's faith in Jesus Christ "implied in genuine repentance" (rather than water baptism) that brings the remission of sins. (Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 13:38-39; 15:7-9; 16:31; 20:21; 26:18). Perfect Harmony

John 3:5 does mean water, look at what happened just after JESUS message he left that conversation and,

John 3,

22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

I do agree with you with the living water meaning the Holy Ghost.

After James said, "what good is it if someone says/claims to have faith, but has no works," he goes on to ask a rhetorical question- Can that faith save him? The answer to that rhetorical question is obviously NO. Then, James concludes that a man is justified (shown to be righteous) by works and not by faith only, which equates to an empty profession of faith/dead faith that "remains alone" - barren of works. (James 2:24) Genuine faith is evidenced by works. The absence of evidence can be construed as evidence of absence.

I did keep it simple but apparently the scriptures that I shared with you did not seem to fit your narrative, so you basically disgarded them. You seem interested in hearing only what you want to hear.

Now in regard to John 3:22, by this time Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus is over with and He has moved on. John 3:22 - After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He was spending time with them and baptizing. Verse 22 is out of context with verse 5. What is still in context with verse 5 are verses 14-18.

The example he gives is someone who sees another in need and has plenty but instead of helping the person in need with thier substance sharing it with them , the person simply says “ I’ll pray that your warm and well fed “ then James says “ can this kind of faith save you ? When you refused to act ?

it’s important to know James is a Christian and he’s not advocating Moses law but the works jesus taught Christian’s to do .

For instance look how this would impact a persons judgement

Salvation is completely by grace through faith and not works (Ephesians 2:8,9) yet genuine faith is evidenced by works. (James 2:14-24) Faith is the root of salvation and works are the fruit. No fruit at all would demonstrate there is no root. Works are only backloaded onto salvation when one teaches that we are saved by both faith and works, which places works as the basis or means by which one obtains salvation.

Exactly.

"Can that faith save him..." It is a physical reality. If we, as believers, have a dead faith it will not save us from our everyday problems and circumstances. And it will not save/help others that God puts in our paths.

James is teaching about our real world APPLICATION of our faith. Not our eternal life and salvation.

Many believers today have a dead faith. They may be very moral and religious. Doing many "good" things but are doing it from their flesh. They do not know how to be filled and walk in the Spirit.

24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

God sees the heart. Everyone who has believed in the Lord Jesus Christ is saved. Faith alone is all it takes.

YOU SEE evidence of this through our works. Man looks at the outside appearance.

Many believers stay as babes in Christ for an entire lifetime. YOU SEE, no evidence. But God knows the heart.

And in my opinion, one better be very, very mature in Christ to deem themselves as fruit inspectors. Most cannot decipher from human good and divine good.

In Acts 2:38, "for the remission of sins" does not refer back to both clauses, "you all repent" and "each one of you be baptized," but refers only to the first. Dead faith James was not talking about coming back or being saved. I like this "What good is it, James asks, if you tell the poor that you believe God will clothe them, and you tell the hungry that you have faith in God to feed them, but you yourself don’t do anything to feed or clothe them?"

In Acts 2:38, "for the remission of sins" does not refer back to both clauses, "you all repent" and "each one of you be baptized," but refers only to the first. Peter is saying "repent unto the remission of your sins," the same as in Acts 3:19. The clause "each one of you be baptized" is parenthetical. This is exactly what Acts 3:19 teaches except that Peter omits the parenthesis.

*Also compare the fact that these Gentiles in Acts 10:45 received the gift of the Holy Spirit (compare with Acts 2:38 - the gift of the Holy Spirit) and this was BEFORE water baptism (Acts 10:47).

In Acts 10:43 we read ..whoever believes in Him receives remission of sins. Again, these Gentiles received the gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 10:45 - when they believed on the Lord Jesus Christ - Acts 11:17 - (compare with Acts 16:31 - Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved) BEFORE water baptism - Acts 10:47. This is referred to as repentance unto life - Acts 11:18.

5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

Why was he told to send for Peter?

Peter was not allowed to even speak to the Gentiles.


Acts 11 Peter has some explaing to do to his fellow Jews.


13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

You two are not discussing the OP. Again, an atheist can repent and accept Christ and be saved and receive the Holy Spirit only once.
If the saved person then repents of his saving faith and rejects Christ and blasphemes the HS such apostasy indicates total depravity or a completely callous heart that will never again genuinely repent, so their opportunity to be saved was wasted and judgment day awaits them (Heb. 6;4-6, 10:26-31, 3:7-11).

These Gentiles believed, received remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit along with the spiritual gift of tongues (which is ONLY for the body of Christ - 1 Corinthians 12) and were saved BEFORE water baptism.

Water baptism "followed."

The phrase, "in Jesus' name" is not a reference to a rigid, salvation baptismal formula but a reference to authority. To baptize in Jesus’ name is to baptize in the authority of Jesus. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus clearly stated - "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." The proper way to baptize in Jesus’ name, in the authority of Jesus is to "baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." False religions that reject the Trinity will reject Matthew 28:19.

AFTER they believed, received remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit, they were commanded to be baptized.

I would not say "just" believing as if believing is insufficient. Believing is as good as the OBJECT that we place it in (which is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ) and to downplay believing as if it's not enough is to downplay the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as if it's not enough. In Ephesians 1:13 -In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

Believers receive the Holy Spirit after they believe and are saved then proceed to receive water baptism. We see this same pattern all through scripture with some exceptions that involve laying on of hands before receiving the Holy Spirit.

Back to Acts 19 I asked you have you received the Holy Ghost since you have believe?
Paul asked this question in verse 2, assuming they may have believed, yet their answer demonstrates they have not yet believed - “we have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” Paul further asked, "into what then were you baptized? They said, “into John’s baptism.” Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in Him who would come after him, that is, in Christ Jesus Christ.” When they heard this, they were afterwards baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. There would have been no need to re-baptize them if they had already believed in Jesus Christ unto salvation. These disciples of John needed further instructions to become believers in Christ Jesus then afterwards, they received the Holy Spirit after Paul laid hands on them (which is an exception and not the rule in every case of conversion).

"Can that faith save him..." It is a physical reality. If we, as believers, have a dead faith it will not save us from our everyday problems and circumstances. And it will not save/help others that God puts in our paths.

James is teaching about our real world APPLICATION of our faith. Not our eternal life and salvation.

Many believers today have a dead faith. They may be very moral and religious. Doing many "good" things but are doing it from their flesh. They do not know how to be filled and walk in the Spirit.

So exactly what James is expounding, agree 100%, James is teaching the Brethren, putting our faith to work saves/benefits our soul!!!
