My understanding Gen 1:1 is summery.

Gen 1:2 starting the details.

Not necessarily gap theory. Because it is hard to find gap theory back up in rest scripture.
That is not how the Hebrews did things by giving it a title and then filling in the details. It's why generally the Hebrew is understood Verse 1 is explaining a final product and as time passed Verse 2 reveals something interrupted Verse 1.

Sigh @OMC . Your responses are so predictable. It's like you get your answers from a primitive form of A.I. with a Bible literacy of a Sunday School teaching. Of course it's not going to comprehend things that are Spiritual. It takes one with the Holy Spirit to discern these things.

You literally contradicted this verse:

Proverbs 8:27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

Does your A.I. even know what a compass is and what it is used for? Come on man.

I can see you haven't really studied that. I would suggest doing more research on what is said in the original Hebrew:

Thanks Milk of the Word A.I. I appreciate your response, but the question is already answered.
Personal attacks do not answer the argument.
Saying someone lacks spiritual discernment is not evidence that an interpretation is correct.
The question remains: where does the text explicitly teach the conclusions being drawn?

Regarding Proverbs 8:27, the verse says God "set a compass upon the face of the depth."
A compass draws a boundary or circle.
It does not say the earth existed as a two-dimensional blueprint, nor does it explain the mechanism of creation.
That conclusion is being added to the text, not derived from it.

As for Genesis 1:1-2, the earth is already called "the earth" before it is described as "without form and void."
The burden is to show from the text itself that this refers to a blueprint rather than an existing creation.

Interesting. Will look into it.

Still if based on gap theory, need more scripture back up.
