How should we pray? (Part 9)

8 – Jesus’ blessings are to reestablish bonds of love:

• Mat 6:12 -> “and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.”.

If Jesus forgave all our debts in the cross of Calvary, why do we need to ask the Creator to forgive us again? The only explanation is:

• Rom 13:8 -> “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”.

Who really is born again needs to behave in total sanctity and purity (1John 3:5-9; 5:18). The only thing that they owe to the Creator is love because, don’t mind how much we express His love for people around us, we always need to stay covered with His love (John 15:9; Col 3:14).

Understand: forgiveness isn’t a question of forgetting people’s fault. First of all, is a restauration of the bands of love which were broken:

• Hos 11:4 -> “I led them with cords of kindness, with the *bands of love*, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them.”.

See what Jesus said about these “bands”:

• Mat 18:18-20 -> “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”.

So, what we are asking ought to able us to rebuild the bonds which were broken and establish new ones:

• 1Jn 1:3 -> “that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.”.

And this love manifested in form of forgiveness can cover multitude of sins:

• Jas 5:19,20 -> “My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.”.
• 1Pe 4:8 -> “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”.

Many people think about how they can get free of a sin (for instance, an addiction). The recipe is the love, especially for the Creator, to the point of loving His presence and knowledge (Rom 1:18,21,28).

In short: what we are asking has to give room in our heart so that Jesus can stay close to us removing from us everything that keep us far from Him; and this has to make us ready to stay close to the person while Jesus takes away of their life everything that keep them aloof from Him and His Church (including us).

So, is what we are asking making people draw near to us and to Jesus (to confirm His Word)? Or is it contributing to broke our relationship?

Tomorrow we will keep on. Have a good day in Christ Jesus.
