So i work at a nursing home and recently we've been admitting people who are on hospice care, or expected to die within six months. Over the course of the year and a half i've worked there, we've obviously had numerous people die. I've been warned not to get emotionally attatched to our residents, due to the fact that they will die. I don't exactly agree with that, for you could say the same thing about any human being in the world. Yet, i've gotten quite attatched to a few and they've died. And one recently died, whom i cared for and befriended the entire time i've worked at the nursing home. It's hard and i've been praying constantly for the residents, especially the deceased ones, but it almost seems harder to pray for them for i am reminded of them. I LOVE my job and never want to quit, but yet, i am having a difficult time with the dying aspect of it. Any advice?

Isaiah 57:1 and 2 tells why good people die, and all throughout the Bible there are places that talk about how death is actually a good thing for those who love God. But i don't think there are too many ways to be OK with someone you are close to dying, except knowing they are in a better place.

Two things help me cope with the loss of people I love. First, I know they are in a better place. Second, I have a loving church that supports me at all times.

Go ahead and get attached to them... every person needs to know that someone cares for them, and will miss them when they've gone on.

Just remember to take time with the Father, to refresh your strength and compassion. You can't pour out of a pitcher constantly without taking time to refill it regularly.
