Each time it thunders we get it pretty loud over here as a young adult ive been thinking im gonna have to put some measures in place like I might have to have a bucket or bin or something by my bed next it thunders or natural disaster. I DONT like loud noises esp extremely loud noises i get such shock that I nearly throw up . One vivid time that i can look back and see i had noise anxiety was with our first earthquake. I havent chucked yet but I see its may very well happen . if im frank i think it is going to happen just thinking im gonna have to do something about this .You the same? or got any useful tips or helpful websites?

Bless your heart. I have anxiety/panic, and also hyperacute hearing with tinnitus (ringing sensitive ears), but I don't have the two linked to each other. I had never heard of this combined condition. I feel sad for you, but might could recommend seeing about some kind of anxiety treatment or medication to help. This sounds like a fear of loud noises thing, which they call phonophobia, but when it is so extreme, it affects the physical body, then it's time for help. I don't know much else to recommend, but I will just pray you can find some relief from this problem. I can empathize about loud noises, and anxiety, but just never had heard of this combination. Wellness and healing to you.

I get to thinking, I think as a child, I do recall being afraid of hearing firecrackers or a cap pistol. I do recall shaking all over and sweating when my dad tried to convince me to fire a cap pistol as a child. As an adult, I don't fear the noises, but sure can't handle them due to reactive tinnitus and the hyperacusis.

thanks so much to the two above posts I appreciate you caring- your sympathy and empathy. I think your right it is time I get help. Id rather choose to go about it the non medication way as I dont think medication can help this , somone (not here on CC) suggested listening to Music or you know just curling up in a ball with a blanket for me to get cosy and comfortable. So llthink of ways to deal with it I will pray and thanks to those who I know are praying. Its one of those things where Im not actually afraid of thunder itself or rain or something but just extremely loud noises instantly so God can miracously heal me but im open to methods of coping too. Its both (prayer included) . Im aware this is normal and natural for those of us who where born more quieter and are sensitive (Im an introvert) but its not common too this noise thing. Its like saying to a young boy 'dont be agressive ' 'dont play wrestling with your older brother' some of us a actually born with quieter personalities not liking some noises .

I've never heard of this as a condition. Perhaps therapy would help? My mom was able to kick her 20-some odd year smoking habit overnight by undergoing hypnotherapy. One visit and $90 later, and poof! (pun intended)

My neighbor has been burglarized twice this year, so he got a great dane guard dog. It's bark began costing me sleep, sounding like a car horn. The dog barks at the slightest movement outside and even barks at us when making a sudden noise in our home at night. My grand daughters are very afraid of thunder, jumping into bed with us.

I got a solution from a naturopathic doctor.

Go to mynoise.net It's free, put up by a sound engineer. There are a lot of sounds that help sleep, anxiety, masking noises. I run "White Rain" all night, which I set up to filter out the neighbor's dog. You have to experiment with it. If you donate $10 a year you can get personal help from Dr Pigeon. When it thunders with the girls here overnight, I put on one of the thunderstorm files. Those sort of deafen you to the sudden thunders, and the girls sleep right through storms now.

I had to get a pair of hearing aids last year, losing high frequency human voice perception. The $4,000 was a good investment, insurance paid $2,500 of that. But now the better news. The White Rain has been retraining my brain to focus on substitute sounds so that now I hardly use them. I think the key is using the Calibrated Hearing Curve feature. In a quiet setting I can at last hear everyone speaking! TV speech is not muffled. They are still handy to control loud crowd noise in restaurants. I have tinnitus in both ears from damage in the Navy years that was like a symphony orchestra tuning up. But now there are half as many tones, and the volume is down 70% according to my audiologist.

I found it best not to use your built-in computer speakers or cellphone speakers. Heavy use like this app can damage them eventually. There is a mobile app for mynoise, by the way. Plug in earphones or a stereo system. High quality speakers make Mynoise a much more effective experience.

I hope this helps you. It's been a big blessing to my family.

pop in your earbuds and enjoy the peace.

our baby grandson loves this stuff. :)

I started with that one. Try the MyNoise.net for a lot more choices. You set up a personal calibrated hearing curve that filters out stuff you hear too easily, focuses on other sounds. You can filter by actave range, mix sounds, etc.
