IS it possible to get a thread clsoed or delete posts for the sake of keeping the discussion focused? I have disucssions where poeple begin insulting one another and I don't want that also it completely derails the thread

You are crazy, this thread stinks, it is non biblical, this is heresy, you don't know God. LoL just kidding. I love you Twighlight. Were those the comments you were referring to? And sorry for derailing your thread :)

People will gravitate toward, and talk about, what interests them. Better that, perhaps, than a dead thread?

I wish it were possible but sadly it isn't, once you post something online it's there forever unless a mod deletes it themselves.

Only way to prevent a detailed thread is not to make a thread. Derailment is part of being on forums. Wandering topics are a part of natural social interaction. Best thing to do is get what you can out of the thread early then abandon it.

Actually that's not quite true. You can report the post as inappropriate or extremely rude, and ask a mod to either close the thread or remove it altogether. I have asked mods many times to delete inappropriate posts, and they usually always do.
