How will you raise your children belief wise?

I hope to have kids one day and I have always wondered about how to raise them belief wise. I think I will raise them by showing them a variety of what's out there and let them decide for themselves. I can show them all the proof and evidence in the world for a belief system, but in the end, it's them that has to deicide whether to believe it or not. And I hope they won't believe things because "it's cool" I remember when I was a kid I wanted to be jewish just because I thought it was "cool". I want my kids to really believe something and not just go along with it because it's cool or because it's what I believe. So as I said before, I will let them decide for themselves. What is you guys' opinions on this and how will you raise your children belief wise?
 
Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

The Holy Bible is the only instruction book that will lead you in your teaching the children.
There is only one direction you must raise your children. Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ
and thou shalt be saved and thy household. You do not want to confuse them with any
other teachings. Only one way my friend... You are wise in thinking of what to do before
you begin to have a family. May God bless you.
 
With my little girl I've always read to her from the Bible. Like, for bedtime stories I have this complete set of Children's Bible stories and once she got a little older we'd spend some time every Sunday reading scripture with me explaining to the best of my ability what we'd just read about. I've discussed with her that a lot of people don't believe or believe differently and why she shouldn't feel small or ashamed of her faith and her beliefs. But I've also told her that she needs to believe and have faith because it's what she truly feels in her heart, not just because Papa does it.
She's a smart little girl and very devoted to the Lord right now. But she has big tests coming up in her teens. I'm prayerful she's strong enough to ride out those trials and pass through the forge stronger than ever. I had high hopes my little brother would but it seems I've lost him to Hinduism and shamanism. I don't want to lose my girl.

The first thing to understand is that, it is foolish to think our children will be born again and have a relationship with God by anything other than through our prayers and them making that decision for themselves. I agree 100% with what J-Kay says. You can open them up to all different kinds of philosophies and religions, but in the end, what will it accomplish? If all these religions are false, what's to make them believe that God is anymore real? Opening them up to anything that is false is going to make them question the very ground they walk on, and will easily make them question God and the bible. If you're a passionate christian, and passionate about God, I would think you would want your child to learn those ways as truth, and not have them muddled with other beliefs.
 
Why would you want your child to choose for other false religions? There is only one way to God -- Jesus Christ. Jesus said that He is the way, the Truth and the Life and that no one comes to the Father except through Him.

Obviously, I wouldn't teach a child hatred of those with other belief systems, but since Jesus is the ONLY way, that's what I would teach.
 
We teach our son about God and Jesus and the Bible, and we pray together. I feel if he has a strong foundation NOW, even though he's only 2, that foundation is less likely to crack as he gets older.

I also don't understand teaching about different belief systems and then letting them choose one...that's like showing them a display of sharp objects with one toy mixed in and letting them choose one :confused:
 
No kids here,but if I had any,I'd teach them the truth of Jesus from the get go...if they decide to walk away from that as they get older,then that is between them & God. I can only pray for them & love them at that point,believing that God is faithful to finish the great work he began in them & that the Holy Spirit will call them back to their 1st love.

Because you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. personally I don't have a religion but I am not going to force them to believe what I believe. I will let them believe what is true to them. I mean as long as they don't become some crazy Islamic extremist or something. There are limits
 
being a Christian is an every day part of my life. My kids are part of that. I teach Sunday school they are there with me. We read a children's Bible. I am not quizzing them and cracking their knuckles with a ruler if they're wrong. I'm giving them a foundation. I had a Catholic Dad and a baptist Mom. we didn't discuss God, I wish I had a stable Christian foundation when I was growing up.
 
I will raise them to be Christians. When they get curious about other religions, I'll answer their questions honestly and truthfully. Speaking of being honest and truthful, I'll tell them the truth about Santa from the get-go. I don't want my kids getting Santa Syndrome.

I find it odd a non-believer would come to a Christian site to ask how people would/do raise their children in regards to religion.

I assume you are not a Christian? Therefore you have every right to raise your children as you say above.:) If you were a Christian, you would understand from the Word that we are to raise our children under Gods authority and teaching. We are instructed that our children are a gift and blessing from God and appreciate that they will be blessed to grow up knowing and being taught the Truth. 'In all ways acknowledge Him...'. It's good they know 'of ' other religions, how can they reach out to the lost if they do not know the false beliefs they hold? But to leave it up to a child to choose? That would be opening a door to confusion and it is not how we (as Christians) are instructed to raise our children. If you are a beliving, repentant born again bible believing Christian, you will know exactly how to raise your child. It's in The Book of Life!! God Bless, <><
 
P90powa, before you have children you should get your own spiritual house in order. We are more than just bones and flesh. We have an immortal soul. Once these bodies have expired all that will be left is our soul. I don't know if p90powa is related to p90x, but if it is why would you be so concerned with the health of a dying body and give no thought to eternity? Please examine Christianity for yourself. It is not just a system of morals. Without Jesus we are subject to God's judgement and punishment. It doesn't matter if you believe or don't want to believe. Seek for yourself the Truth that is Christianity and the Bible and Jesus. May God open your eyes and teach you His perfect wisdom.
 
I don't know we never read the bible as a family when i was a kid or anything but we went to church every sunday. Once I was about sixteen my parents just said well we wont force you to go anymore if you dont want to, so church is now up to you. I ended up alright, i went when i could and i do the same now.

I think most parents will teach their children the way they believe. This is the reason that Christian marriage is so important, so that the children are taught the Love of God learn to love the Lord.
 
Some very valid points. From different views. The truth is the truth. Myself, my kids are watching me grow in my new faith after leading a really bad example prior. You might think this a disadvantage. 1st Corinthians 1:27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. I feel that by my example, what is seen in a sharp contrast here is God now in me. The difference is great and I stress that it is by God's power. The witness of leading by example is good. With that, hold down what you know as it is revealed. This is hard, but never think anything is impossible with God. Everything is possible. Pilippians 4:13 is a good reference there. I'm pretty new in being saved. So I'm just going here by what the Spirit of God tells me. Obedience is key, obedience to God and his will in your life. In your home if you are a new Christian. My advice is, If you see a cancer. Cut it out quickly. Poison is poison if it's diluted or not it will change something good into something bad.
 
Should I have children, I hope to raise them in a vibrantly Christian household. I hope to instill in them an understanding and love for God, so that they will go on to be faithful Christians when they leave the house.

It doesn't mean they are going to run to an alter call at the age of 4, but the Lord tells us who and what we are in the Bible. If children could have that jump start in life of being secure in the truth about who they are, then when challenges come up later in life, their foundation can hold them up, keep them from crumbling and feeling lost. How many of us have wasted years searching for who we are and why we are here? What a privilege and a blessing to help your kids figure it out early. They might go their own way once they are out of your house, but you have planted the seed of truth and God will honor that. The Lord's word never returns void, so it will eventually bring them back around.[/FONT]
