Hi, I have been hurt by a church. About 5 years ago. A member of my church in a small group swore there head off at me (He was also the leader). He later apologized in front of the pastors. Things were ok but there was still a lot of tension. Anyways, a couple of years later, I was talking to a girl after church and he yelled pretty much right behind be across the church at the top his lungs. The senior pastor was away that day. I turned around and said "you are yelling in my ear". Later I went with him and a bunch of other guys to a resteraunt, but could not take it anymore. I remembering storming past the associate pastor (now the senior pastor), but not saying anything to him. I left the church a few weeks later. Since then the Associate pastor asked me back. I went, but it was the same. I have explained this all to the Associate pastor, but he hasn't responded to me. I think the member who swore at me is gone, but not totally sure. This church was and still is to a large part my family. It has hurt me a lot.

Any suggestions? I would like to return to this church as a member.

There are no perfect churches. I have been hurt more than once by my church. I suspect I have hurt people in my church. If you want to stay, stay.

agree, not all churches show love.....but we have each other as family :)

even families have fights, we are to forgive and love each other. :)

I was deeply hurt by my church through a very rough time in my life. I agonized over the decision to leave...but I finally did. I visited a few other churches, thinking they could be of God.....but ultimatly I felt this pull to go back. I *ignored* the call for awhile because that first step is so hard....but I have been back now, and I think it is just a choice to be obedient to God, and not rely on man. (although that is SOOOOOOO tough!)

There is nothing that can be done about the past, if you need to take a bit of a break to get your head clear, then maybe that is what you should do....but I definitely would not allow it to be for long.

Running away (as I did...although I did not see it as running away at the time), will not get you any further away from the issues. I know it is much easier said than done...but you cannot change others. You are not responsible for what they do, only for how you respond to it. If you truly know you have not done anything wrong...go forward in that confidence. :)

Blessings

If you are feeling called to go back to this church, then I think you know who is doing the calling. If you are struggling with relocating because your heart is still at this church, consider if God is wanting to use you somewhere else. Christ himself, the prophets, disciples, and later missionaries did not settle into one location. The great commission even tells us to go and teach all nations. Involvement in church is crucial to christian growth, but we must be careful not to be distracted by the bounds of committment as we would interpret them. Church can easily become the reason why we DON'T follow the path God has chosen for us.

I will pray for you that God will make it clear to you what His will is concerning your choice of church attendance and membership. I also pray that He will follow that up by granting you the strength to do His will.

Hi, Thank you for your responses. I definitely feel callled to go back to this church. I have asked my brother to put in a word for me to the Senior pastor indicating that I would like to come back, so maybe something can come back to me to reassure me that this is a safe place for me.

I left my last church for that very reason, No love, no spirit of worship... You can't speak to me when you see me at the store, but you want me to come to your church and worship God with you,,, something is wrong there
