The Bible calls husbands the "head" of the marriage. "Sarah obeyed Abraham calling him lord." I believe that husbands are in charge of the family. Several verses in the New Testament put men in charge of the family.
 
Husbands should lead but in leading they should lead with respect. The word says for husbands to love thier wives as Christ love the church and gave himself for her. I think that in leading the husbands should find that to mean selfish love and putting his family first in everything and making the best possible decisions for them in love and respect to the point of death. If a man walks in the love of God and cares for his family wives will follow and love and respect will flow. Not to mention there is NOTHING more attractive in a man than one following after God. :) My hubs in not perfect but Iknow that no matter what I can trust him and not fear for my family. He will do everything best for us in his power and the rest is up to the Lord!!!

I totally agree with this post. Respect both ways leads to a very trusting and lasting relationship.

I also want to say that in some cases (like mine) It's not possible to have a man the head in the house hold. It leaves no choice but the mothers to be in charge.
 
yes lots of homes are run with one leader. So in that case the Lord serves as your head and then the rest sits upon your shoulders to govern you home according to His word and direction. If you have chidren you are carrying a bigggg weight as a single parent. BUT GRACE.....will see you through.

I have been married 19 years and we have a good marriage, because I know my place, submitting to my wife.

BTW

I tried to point out to her a long time ago the scriptures that spoke of a man being the head of the house, she just shook her head and walked away :o
 
Being "in charge" is an attitude thing. You are either in charge or you are not. No book can teach you.
You can "be in charge" and also be in an equal partnership.
 
To be head of house is to be the one ultimately responsible before God for the family unit. This mostly implies the spiritual leader. And yes, it says for us to submit to one another in the fear of the Lord. Men are to love their wives as Christ loves the Church.

What did Jesus do for the Church? Yes, to give our lives for our wives and kids. I have been working on this for 20 years and it works when we both walk in our respective places.

My wife is not my servant, she walks beside me and I would dishonor God and her to do anything else.

Like any responsibility, if people want to assume responsibility they simply have to step up and take charge. That may involve working as a team. No need to repress anyone.
 
Do what works for every individual couple, there needn't be any rule that says one gender has to be in charge. If a couple wants to place someone in charge, then great, they agree. But until that agreement comes, each partner is entirely equal... And it shouldn't be an issue if a woman wants to have equal say in matters, instead of having the man overrule her.

My wife does agree to some exstint, I'll give you that. But you'll never tell her what to do if she is going to a church meeting. She goes to church at least three times a week and I don't think I could take her on a date or buy her dinner to get her to change her mind about going!
 
Have you ever seen my Big Fat Greek Wedding? The man may be the head of the house, but the woman is the neck that turns the head!

It's funny, but so true! The head needs the neck, and the neck needs the head. One could do nothing without the other. (And I do think women are the "trickier" sex, which makes me very happy to be the neck. Yet the head can still be very stubborn sometimes!)

I was just thinking about that!
 
The problem is that people separate the terms...

"Wives submit to your husbands" and

"Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church"

...

They separate them from the overall thing that marriage is to mirror. That being Christ and the church.

Christ leads his church and willingly died for it. The church willingly submits to Christ.

That's the backdrop for the pattern set forth in marriage where the wife submits in all things and the husband gives his very life for his wife and leads in all things.

All too often these roles get separated from the grand picture of Jesus and the church and what follows is a wrestling match between husband and wife over who gets control.

Marriage isn't a wrestling match. It's a beautiful dance, where the husband mirrors Christ and leads and sacrifices as the wife willingly submits.
