As usual, lots of really good advice here. Shoshie, I want to encourage you to take this advice and approach this as if YOU have been away for a long, long time. But also understand if you've been born again, then you already belong to the One True Living God. There is nothing that can separate you from the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Also, take a closer look at this verse. "Do not quench the Spirit"
— 1 Thessalonians 5:19
It's short but very crucial in what many Christians go through all over the world. It implies that believers can hinder the Spirit's influence by ignoring His promptings and indulging in sinful behavior. I'm certainly not saying you're being sinful. But it can enter our lives in the most deceptive of ways. Especially loving something or someone more than God Himself. Something as simple as disregarding the Spirit's prompting in our hearts can cause weakness in the relationship and lead to openings for the enemy.
"The Bible also speaks of spiritual hunger and thirst, which is a desire for God and His righteousness. Jesus said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied" (Matthew 5:6). This verse suggests that neglecting our spiritual needs can lead to a lack of satisfaction and a weakened relationship with God." Saw this just now in an article too so wanted to share this quote
We have to actively pursue the Lord and seek Him, even more, when we don't feel His presence. He sees you, He knows you, and He loves you. Remember the phrase..."Come to Me.."?
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith"
— 2 Timothy 4:7
I encourage you to fight for your relationship. Read your Bible, get involved in the church, Bible studies and prayer groups. And be careful to pay attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and do not starve Him. This is advice for myself as well. We must all be careful and not ourselves open for attack from the enemy.
"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."
— 1 Peter 5:8
"You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."
— 1 John 4:4
I will keep you in my prayers today Shoshie. God bless you
