If God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, then why does Jesus still pray to God the Father?

I have always wondered that too, I never understood why does Jesus have to pray to God the father if he is equal and God himself. I never understood why the Holy Spirit prays to God the Father too.

There relationship is not easy for us to understand. Jesus is our intercessor to God the father. A son praying to the father is a sign of respect, it does'nt necessarily mean that the father is more powerful than the son. They still have equal veto powers.

May I offer this:

Think of standing on a beach beside the ocean. The ocean of God's pure love.

Take some of the water and hold it in your hands.
The water in your hands is the same "substance" (pure love) as the ocean, and the ocean is the same "substance" as the water in your hands.
This is like Jesus, He says He has the power to "lay down" His life and "take it up" again, Jn 10:18.

Then let it fall back into the ocean, now the waters are one again. In 1 Cor 15:28 it says that in the "end", that Jesus will "subject" Himself again to God.

Now drink the water of pure love, now the water (love) is inside us, the gift of the Holy Spirit of God's pure love. The water flows through us and brings God's love to the world.

In the end, we jump in to the ocean.
Now we are in the ocean, and the ocean is in us.

Basically this will really happen, in the spiritual world.
Matt 26:29 Jesus says that He won't drink the "fruit of the vine" until the day He drinks it "new" in His Father"s kingdom.
That is the day we jump in the ocean and become one with His love.

An amazing thought to have, the living God all around us, and within us.

For now, let us drink the waters and be filled with His love,

Lord my cup is overflowing with your love.

Hello Legendary,

Your very question should be a clue to your own answer.

"The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne."

How can the Lamb (Jesus), being God, take the scroll out of the right hand of him (God the Father) who is sitting on the throne?
"Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

How can Jesus, being God, hear God the Father from the cloud?

"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Is Jesus God?

"A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Then Jesus told him,
“Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

"But about the Son he (God the Father) says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

Looking at these examples, where God the Father and Jesus the Son are shown to interact, with the Father speaking to the Son and the Son praying to the Father, the only conclusion that one can come to is that God is one God comprised of individual persons. How can the Lamb, Jesus Christ take the scroll out of the right hand of the Father. How can the Father speak from heaven regarding his Son. The best way to say it is, "They are God." Scripture states this when it says, "The Lord our God is one God."

"Let [us] create man in [our] own image, after [our] own likeness."

"Let [us] go down and confuse their language."

God the Father is an individual being, the Son is an individual being and they are one God.

I hope that this helps.

Because theyre 3 things ( like a body the body has arms and stuff and still is the body) and they belong together. Thats the easyest way to understand it

Dear Legendary00,

Jesus took the human body and lived on earth. He is with the body and therefore, he needs to pray. The body is different form the Spirit.
The World is controlled by evil. He needs to pray to stay close to his father.
Even though his like God, praying is the only line of communication to God to stay close to God. He is not in the form of Spirit like he used to be in heaven.
The body itself is different form the spirit. What makes our Saul and spirit dirty is the lust of the body, Just like Romans 8:5-8, 12 mention. The body is the problem for human therefore, we do a lot of earthly things to help out body, and that is where we give little time to spirit and that makes our spirit weak. Therefore, praying is the communication Jesus made to God to stay close to God.
Even the son is one with the father; they have different work to do. God the father is creator and he did his work already. God the son is Jesus Christ and he came down to do his work. Jesus came down to and took the form of human to save human. Just like turning yourself into a fish and going under water to save the fish. The same thing Jesus did. He came down taking the human body to save human, and to stay in touch with God, he has to pray.

God is One in terms of essence or being, but three in terms of Persons. The essence or being describes the "what" and the person describes the "who".

If we compare this to a person, we are one essence (our bodies) and one person (our personality). God is different...he is one essence (which is spirit) and three persons. If he were a human being, it would be like three people living in one body.

You might read the book Forgotten Trinity by James White but I notice you are 16 so it may be pretty complicated for you...I am not sure. It was written for normal adult believers. I think you could follow the explanations if you really want to read it though.

There are some aspects about God that are hard to understand how they can be, but we simply accept what Scripture says. One of those things is how He could have always existed. Since we are physical beings, it is hard for us to understand this truth as well. But, we know it's true, because of the incredible design we see in this world, and the fact that everything else has a definite beginning, so we know something caused these things to come into being, as no thing comes into being without a cause.

By the way, I don't like to use the word "separate" to describe the three Persons of the Triune God, because separate implies that the objects are separated by time and space. The three Persons of the Trinity are not separate in that way; they are distinct.

Here's an explanation about the Trinity that I like (it is not my explanation; I am borrowing it):

There is but one pure light, and we perceive it as white light. But white light can be broken down into three primary colors—red, green and blue. Each of the three primary colors does not exist apart from the other primary colors—they are included within the one light, which is white. There is but one complete light that we call white light, but this light contains three distinct but not separate primary colors. (The analogy fails, as all analogies from the created world do, if we extend it further. Although white light contains three primary colors, it is physically possible to separate the colors, and to have a stream of red light, for example. In the Trinity, it is not possible to separate the Persons, although they can be distinguished from one another.)
