You have to look at the bigger picture to, look at how the telivison has brainwashed every one into beliveing being gay is ok
and haveing girlfriends and boyfrinds. Prime example hana montana cody and zak theres always flirting on the shows and
boyfrien girlfriend stuff who likes who. its makein kids of today think its ok and iv seen kids as yong as 5 watchn this. what chance
do they realy have if there brought up in these inviroments. Even the news we watch after work you, look at what they tell you and
then think o yea thats true. but why do you make that choice to believe it. think about it.

When I was 15 years old I read an excerpt of it in a Christian teen magazine called Brio. I went out to the Christian bookstore shortly after and purchased the book. From there it opened my eyes to view relationships in a different more godly way. After reading it I had a desire to want to do things God's way when it came to relationships. I went on to read as many books as I could on relationships as well as purity. I am 26 now and I have never dated, but for other reasons that don't have much to do with the book. I think it's a great read for teens.

I think its important to keep an open mind of all sides. Josh Harris wrote this book after a very bad breakup at the age of nineteen. His personal biases (using his own example) are used constantly.
I think that that Josh Harris wrote a lot of good ideas but I dont think its wise to read just that one book and treat it like doctrine.

To look at all good versions, I also recommend people read "Boundaries in Dating" by Christian psychologists Dr Cloud and Dr Townsend. These guys are fantastic and have been counselors to couples and spouses for over 20 years so they know a thing or two. They look at the subject of relationships and take it apart and look at it objectively. They use straightup facts from their work experience NOT their personal life and they use relevant scripture (used from the right context) and apply it.

Anyway, just try it out :D

I read it in 2006 or 2007. Personally, I regret doing so as it actually made me come off as awkward at church. It seems like every church has it's own social code. So why read a book looking to get everyone onto the same book. I thought his follow up book "Say hello to Courtship" was a better book but still just bogus.

My best move is to just live life, meet people and have fun, take one woman or date at a time. I got tired of reading about all of these depressing stories of guys feeling ashamed of themselves.

I think it’s the sort of thing that will work for some people and not for others, and that’s ok. Maybe God never gave some clear cut directions on this because it’s not the sort of thing that where one-size will fit all. Apart from extramarital sex being clearly wrong, and the waring about being unequally yoked. I think choosing to, or not to, date before marriage is and should be a personal decision between a person and God.

Ok, I simply must bring up this book. I want to know how many of you read it and what you think of it. I read it when I was 18. I had been first published the year before. I wished I had read it when I was 13 or 14, when all my friends started dating. I gave a copy to my old church for their library and the pastor's wife, who reviewed it, said she wished she had it when she was a teenager.

It is, in a nutshell, an awesome book. The thesis of the book (in my own words) is that people who are young (under about 21) who get into serious relationships too often compromise themselves emotionally, physically and spiritually, and it's a better idea to wait until one can get married in the forseeable to get seriously involved with the opposite sex. Why shop if you can not yet afford to buy? That's just opening yourself up to temptation.

i totally agree with u on this case u brought up :]

Mom jeans should also be kissed goodbye

I read it along time ago like back when it first came out and I liked it alot, but I probably should reread it because I don't really remember much of his point beyond that when building a romantic relationship its better to do things side by side than across the table.

This book was written because he got dumped. He was angry and bitter, and thought the 'Godly Thing" to do was to kiss dating goodbye. Then in his next book, he writes about getting hitched. Glean some good from them, but remember where the book is coming from

That's write. When I read the book in 2007, that was the impression I got. Christian guy who epic fails with women writes about doing things the Godly way. As if he wasn't already. He probably got dumped for being too Godly about things.

Yeah, in his next book he writes about his friend, arriving outside the girl he was datings house, and digging a hole in front yard and burying their stuff. I think her Dad came outside and was like... dude...

Psycho stuff in my view, they should've called the cops.

I thought there were positive and negative points in the book.
I respect Josh Harris as a pastor but I believe that he was tooting his own horn a bit to much over this book. People need to remember that he wrote this book at age 21. Most 21 year olds are a bit self obsessed. Also remember he later wrote a sequel' to this book called 'Boy meets girl' (after he got married), where he looks back on 'I kissed dating goodbye' and changes his earlier position and statements he made realising that they were a bit legalistic and he was a bit bitter while writing it, which is never a good way to go.
On the upside, the biblical model of courtship he pushes for (more so in his 'Boy meets Girl' book) is awesome, and the updated version includes appendices with stuff like conversation topics and date idea's.

Personally Id rather recommend "Boundaries in Dating" by Dr Cloud and Dr Townsend.
I like Josh Harris, but I find two christian men with doctorate degrees and 30 years of experience in relationships and biblical counselling more reliable and reputable than a homeschooled 21 year old.

I loove the boook.... maybe I should stop reading it when I am older but as a teen I think I need it.... and coming to think of it I will need my personal copy for college......lol.... yes kiwi I understand..... and for me right now Josh's book will serve me better that dating tips from experienced men since I don't plan on getting married soon.... :-)

Had mixed feelings about the book when I read it years ago. Although, I reckon reading 'The 5 love languages' by Gary Chapman, and 'Boundaries in dating' by Henry Cloud/John Townsend.... personally, I find them much more grounded and applicable.

Okay, just realized some posters already posted said references before me. Egad.
