I'm 22 years old and single, I'm in bible college right now, and its known for people hooking up, getting engaged before graduating, i feel like marriage and couples are more celebrated and accepted then being single, it really discourages me. I feel down about being single and i scared. I dont know how i am going to make it on my own after next year, of course i know that entering in to marriage or relationship isn't for that reason, but i know it makes things easier... and i know God has a perfect plan he will take care of me.. i desire to be a wife and a mommy one day, i feel so discouraged and ashamed about being single. i need some encouragement.

emerychik aka (call me Sarie)

i know how you feel, and sometimes i get all depressed about it but i try to look on the bright side!
God will send you the right man at the right time, which is MUCH better than getting the wrong guy at the wrong time!
you just need to try and focus on your blessings and what you have, not your problems and what you dont have, cuz life is too short!
worry can't change the future.
so just try and hang in there and it will all work out in God's time! =]
I hope i helped!
btw Emery rocks! =]

Well firstly.. you're 22. You've still got your entire life ahead of you.. lots of time to find a guy and settle down. Secondly, you've got all the encouragement you need right in your post. God has the perfect plan for you. Perhaps you man isn't quite ready yet, and God's just taking some time to further perfect him. You've got lots of time. Everything will work out. It always does with Jesus on your side.

Hi Sarie.

It can be hard now a days being single. One always thinks that there is something wrong with yo because you don't have a girlfriend ( in my case). I am 23 going to be 24 years of age, I have not had a girlfriend in the past 3 years. I too would like to get married and start a family, but the Lord has different plans.

The Lord has been showing me that there is a time for everything. Right now I have been persevering in my relationship with Christ, and you now what He has filled that void of a girlfriend. I know that He has a mate for me but it is just not the time. Right now I have made it my business not to seek a girlfriend . Why? Because I have decided to give the Lord the best years of my youth. Sure not many see it that way but it is just so blessed. As I got closer to the Lord I did not need that special someone, all I needed was Jesus being intimate with Him.

It is discouraging at first but it is an adventure to be sincere. You see those couples. They have each other to comfort each other we have the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. They grow dependent on one another , we grow dependent on Him who is never tired of us. We can manage being alone with a a partner knowing the Christ is our partner, some couples have not spent time with the Master, so they feel lonely when they do not have their Babes.

Focus on the Lord right now. Give Him your best. I know that He has one for you. Grow strong in the Lord. Serve the Lord. Do it now while you have not one to stop you or before you get tied up, because then after ward you are going to regret it. 1 Corinthians 7:25-40.

Dont be sacred. Psalms 27:10 though you mother and father forsake you the Lord never does. You don't need a boyfriend, Jesus wants to be your boyfriend. Fall in love with Jesus. Get to know you Lord and savior. So when the men come and start talking beautifully to you you will not be pursuaded by just any one. You will look for a man after gods own heart. You will be able to discern what he really is about , but you need to spend time with Jesus. The bible declres in Proverbs 4:23 above all things guarde gurard your heart, that is where life spirngs. With the Lord in your heart you will not melt with every guy that comes along talking liek he is all that. The Lord will guard your emotions.

Just wait on the Lord and do not rush. the Lord is nover early or ever late He is alway son time. Jsut aht His timing is not ours. Dont loose hope. Mature in your fatih. You do not need a man to make things go easier!!. Do not be ashsemed of being single. I refuse to be conformed to this age. I am learning to trust , love, and obey my Love Jesus. And I am a guy. Take advantage of your freedom. Well I hope this helps. I can some what relate to you, but I am not alone Jesus Christ is my Love and I am His. And I know that He has the one for me I jsut need to be ready as a man to take care of her, provide for her, be the priest of the house, and be the man that God wants me to be for Her.

LOOK AT JESUS.

hey, dont get discouraged and dont be pressured to get into a relationship coz most of your college mates are into it.
Desperation has a tendency of making someone make the wrong choices leading to regrets afterwards.
This is the time to grow closer to God,learn more about relationships through reading and observing your friends and how their relationships are working out.
please! dont be in a hurry, pray earnestly and remember its God who gives.
Before you make any choice consult God first coz it determines your happiness or sadness later in your life.
God's blessings.

The answers given in the other posts are excellent, and I don't feel that I can add much except that I will pray for you to get to a place of celebration of your singleness instead of dislike of being single. Being married is no easier than being single, for each station in life brings with it its own set of rewards AND challenges. I encourage you to use this time to draw closer to the Lord, become whole in him, for no man can complete you or make you whole--only God can do that. Just keep your focus on God, wait on Him and His timing, and He will direct your path in the way that it should go. If it includes another person to join you at some point, He will direct that too.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

P.S. My motto when I was single was: "I'd rather be single than settle." Don't let your frustration or peer pressure allow you settle for less than who and what God has for you, my dear.

Sarie: First of all, Lynn has knocked it out of the park (um, guy speak for she has really gotten it right.) Also, speaking from the perspective of a person who has had to live with some horrific results of jumping into a relationship, take comfort in the Lord and taking your time, and be absolutely sure (1) you're ready for moving toward marriage; (2) TAKE YOUR TIME and make sure you know who you're getting close to before you marry them (this can take years and should involve how they react in stress, in arguments, in discussions about money and other assets); and (3) in the mean time, particularly at your very young age, start moving toward meaningful personal goals, during which time you will meet possible marriage partners. It is amazing how things work out with others while you're living your own life, and horrifying if you try remaking yourself to be more attractive to someone else. Best of luck.

First of all let God do the leading. You don't want to jump into anything.. GOd will send you someone in his timing.. He has a work for you to do. Maybe he needs you to be single for a bit longer to do that work.. I know it is hard to wait believe me do I ever know. But the end result will be worth it because if God is in it you will be the happiest woman alive.. I will keep you in my prayers.. Hugs

I know its hard to hear God will send you someone... you wonder is it truth? Will he? Lynn was absolutely right because no matter how well suited you are to your husband there are many issues that go along with sharing your life with someone. I always say if I'd have known my husband was in my future I would have spent alot less time stressing about "the one" and alot more time focusing on me & hanging with my girlfriends and doing exactly what i want to do when i want to do it... like it or not, you have a relationship / children there is a definite loss of your personal freedom. Joy your freedom for now & dont feel bad about not having a fiancee that will come like others said in GODS time not yours. Learn to absolutely love you and seek the Lord as stated in previous posts. btw my husband and i ran into each other many many times over a two month period ALL over the lower mainland... 4 different communities. (we had no one in common) So yes... I truly do believe the Lord will send you someone... right when you've given up on men for good LOL! (ok maybe not then but thats how it happened with me... I was to the point where i didnt want anyone cause i'd dated such losers & jerks) God Bless you as you focus on Him & your own happiness.

Thanks everyone, i know that it is nothing to be ashamed of, just sometimes i get discouraged by it more so being here at school were it seem's like everyone is in a relationship and i'm alone... I want to fall deeply more in love with the Lord this has been my goal for 3 years now (since i got out of a relationship with my ex) since then i've dated another guy twice we broke up.. and finally we are now broken up for good.. I've leanred a lot of hardships and i know that Marriage right now is probably not something i am ready for, i have some growing up to do spiritually, i need to learn to seek God and Love God in all things.. and i also want to learn to stand on my own two feet. Just sometimes a girl needs a little encouragement... thanks again.

We all need encouragement from time to time. It's great to have friends here who do that for us.

You're in my prayers that you continue on the right path, keeping your focus on God. Bless you!

A while ago I was lying in bed, about to fall asleep, when a thought popped into my head. I sat up, grabbed my notebook and a pen, wrote it down, and fell asleep. The next morning I woke up and read over what I had written. Yes, it is my personal conviction, but I think parts of it can apply to anyone. So here it is:

Dear God,
I am a bride and you are the groom. I do not need a husband to be cherished and loved. You will cherish me and love me, and I will show love and respect for you. Help me, Lord, to respect and love you as I learn to accept that you cherish and love me better than any man ever could.
Hollie

Song of Solomon 2:16
Song of Solomon 6:3

That is my personal prayer at the moment, and I am excited to see where it will lead me. Sure, I would love to get married some day and have babies, but I am growing to accept the fact that my life should not be centered around the hope that I will some day wed. I already have the best groom in the entire universe and beyond; why can I not be satisfied with that? We humans are a strange people.

hi sarie,
don't be discouraged, all good things come to those who wait.you are still very young, perhaps GOD wants you to first draw closer to HIM then you will meet your prince charming=] there's a saying we mexicans say in spanish that goes like this:aguantante tantito y la fruta caer en tu mano. in english it means "wait a little longer and the fruit will fall into your hand" fruit spiritually meaning blessing.GOD knows what HE's doing. You just have to trust in HIM.I think GOD is only preparing you for this huge blessing.GOD will give you the desires to your heart.just have faith.have you prayed about it?asking GOD for it?if you have countless times, which im sure you have, then start thanking for that prayer's answer.confess it!wake up each morning saying "today i am one day closer to meeting that special some one for me" and it surely will happen! =]

awww All of you are so sweet Thank you! right now my verse is in Songs of Songs Dont awaken love until it so desire songs of songs 4:14. Your right i need to learn to Love and trust God with all that i am. My prince will come when i least expsect it. As of right now i need to focus on getting through school and standing on my own two feet. Thanks everyone!!

no problem!glad we all helped!that is what we CHRISTians are meant to do:help everyone and anyone.=] if you ever need any more encouragement or advice or anything, just PM me!i mean it!:)

I think there is a certain age that we singles are some how came a cross on this emotional battle. But the good news is that we have a great God who understand what we our going through all those lonely nights. Here's my prayer " God I don't understandit, but i trust you and im not going to spend all my time trying to figureout why certain things have happend. I'm going to trust you to make something good out of it. You're a great God and i know you have my best interest at heart. You promised that all things will work together for good to them that love you." Trust and obey Him always my dear.

hmmmm....you`re not alone girl!...be excited!...God will let you experience the beautiful love story written only for you...in His own perfect time!!!Be blessed..my sis...

I think being single is a time to grow into yourself. I love being single. I've had two really bad relationships and would rather wait it out and be sure of someone than ever jump back into a relationship and "settle" for the next person that comes along. Mind you it doesn't help that my two exes were both atheists and God haters so I would def reccommend waiting for someone that God approves of. But it sounds as if you're already doing this anyways. Don't be discouraged because if God wants you in a relationship with someone then there's no doubt you'll meet him as long as you continue to follow God. Until then just keep doing what you're doing and leave it in God's hand methinks.

dont worry about being single at the moment for all good things come to who wait and stand fast with lord. I was married 2 yrs ago my wife left me to be with another man I was mad at myself and with god I couldnt sleep because my other half was missing. It was like this for a long time but I would start to notice that the lord started opening new doors for me not with women but things he wanted to do for me to prepare me because now im at peace with everthing and truly I think it was a blessing in desices now im going to school and im going to open my own restaurnt when I was with my ex I had no ambtion for life and you no what you have to do is embrace that you are single meet new people live your life because if your not laughing you aint living, because the lord wants us to be joyful and to live life and the world will say that your nobody untill you have somebody, but its a lie just be your self dont do it because its the in thing you will find the man that god wants for you when the loed wants to put him in front of you be safe & be real with yourself take care

Hey , i know how it feels , but don't worry God is your companion right now. You don't need to worry about finding a boyfriend because God already knows who that person is. You don't want to rush into a relationship , because the person you are suppose to marry isn't prepared yet to be the husband he needs to be for you and vise versa. Once you let God step in and change you tremendously then you will see results. EMBRACE being single there is nothing wrong with it.

Most of the prophets and disciples were single and you didn't see them complain about it. So be strong my friend and stay in God's word. He needs your attention right now...let the potential husband come for you later. And it does not hurt to date. Go ahead and date some guys from campus. Who knows maybe it just take being more outgoing to actually meet some great people.

Don't rush it. If he's not the one and you know he's not the one then don't sweat it...because your husband will come soon. God doesn't want you to be alone ok? I know where you're coming from but you have to be strong and let God know , that no matter what hundreds of boyfriends are not worth more than God.
