Because there were many who heard what He was saying but still not actually hearing it. Similarly today, we read passages literally saying how things will be when the kingdom comes, but we still don't accept what the passages say.
We must have eyes to see.

Total Depravity - As a result of Adam’s fall, the entire human race is affected; all humanity is dead in trespasses and sins. Man is unable to save himself (Genesis 6:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10-18).
Unconditional Election - Because man is dead in sin, he is unable to initiate a response to God; therefore, in eternity past God elected certain people to salvation. During my 35 years of NEW Birth in the Kingdom of God, i was always amazed at Brethren who would cover their ears and refuse to look at scripture or acknowledge scripture that directly refutes the religion they would cling to.
It always puzzled me as to why a christian woul not want to examine what God actually said or did not say from His word.
You can't hear or see what the symbols are because you can only handle the literal.
Did the Messiah, Moses, and Elijah symbolically transfigure to shine like the sun, or literally do so?
Was JESUS saying He was The MESSIAH with an Everlasting Kingdom?

Sacrifice and Obligation is over because The Kingdom is in place.

Sacrifice and Obligation is over because the LORD laid His Life down as a Sacrifice for our sins on the Cross.
