Your reading an English bible, The origional english texts did nit even say this, The origional king james said repent ye (plural) and let everyone one of you (singular) be baptised.
In the greek Peter told everyone (you plural)to repent, and you would recieve the gift of the HS.
He then told those who repented to be baptised based on the fact they had recieved tremission of sin.

Peter is talking to Jews and how they crucified their Messiah. Acts is not a doctrinal book for the body of Christ. It is a transitional book from Jew to Gentile, from signs to faith, from Peter to Paul, from Jerusalem to Antioch.
Acts 236 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The question at hand is what shall we do, not what shall we do to be saved.
The word repent in the original language denotes a change of mind toward God, in essence, a turning away from our life of sin, rebellion, defiance, and disobedience in the natural man, to acknowledge Who He is, and what He has done for us, in bringing us to spiritual life through the Holy Spirit of God, via faith in the shed righteous blood of Jesus Christ.
Being baptized is an outward show of an inward change, and also a means of bringing testimony to the church that God is still active in the world today, redeeming sinners through the shed righteous blood of His only begotten Son, Who gave His life as a ransom for many, that we may be reconciled to God, and attain to life ever after.

Not sure where you got this information, but it incorrect. Here's the original KJB 1611:
Then Peter said vnto them, Repent, and be baptized euery one of you in the Name of Iesus Christ, for the remission of sinnes, and ye shal receiue the gift of the holy Ghost.
And the Greek does not have "ye" either (not that it matters).
As you can see, salvation is all about sins -- deliverance from the penalty, the power, and the presence of sins. In order to understand Acts 2:38 one must turn to Luke 24:47, which records the words of Christ:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
What the Lord is saying is that unless there is repentance (a TURNING AWAY from sins and idols) there can be no remission (or forgiveness) of sins. When the sinner hears the Gospel and realizes that he is indeed a sinner on his way to Hell, he must genuinely turn away from sinning in order to turn to the Savior for salvation. Otherwise it is just a sham. So repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ are two sides of the same coin (Acts 20:21).
Now when you read Acts 2:8 it gives the impression that water baptism is also necessary for salvation. But the meaning of what Peter said is that those who are saved by grace MUST be baptized immediately to indicate that they are dead to their old sinful life and ways and alive to God through Christ. That is why Peter also commanded those in the household of Cornelius to be baptized immediately, and Paul and Silas also immediately baptized the believing household of the Philippian keeper of the prison (jailer).

My bad, it was the America’s standard. And it does say so in the greek. The word ye is not there. Ye is the translation of the word used.
Repent - 2nd person plural.
Baptize. Third person singular.

He only told select people to be baptized. He did not tell everyone to repent and be baptized.
A person can get baptized In water for a good conscience toward GOD but a person can't clean the Inside,,only GOD can do that.
The words that JESUS spoke were SPIRIT and LIFE,the only way Is to repent and believe and by Grace GOD will give you Eternal Life.
For GOD SO loved the world that HE gave HIS only BEGOTTEN SON that whosoever BELIEVES In HIM should not perish but have EVERLASTING LIFE.
So how did you come to that knowledge? By your faith or by your works?

Why then does Peter make a big deal out Noah and his family being saved by water in 1Peter 3:20?
Peter is comparing the act of baptism to being saved by water, but he explicitly says it is not the outward washing of the man but the inward cleansing, a clear conscience toward God. This water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ...

Well in technicality one doesn't have to be water baptized for it is better to be baptized of the spirit,but I myself believe both spirit and water baptism are "Best" because both represent a form of "accepting of Jesus" Water baptism represents us being baptized into Jesus's death and thereby receiving remission of sins,where as spirit acceptance represents that you "wholly believe" humbly and sincerely that Jesus can save your soul and did all the bible says he did.

What if a person could not be baptized because of medical reasons?
If baptism is necessary for salvation, that person has no chance for eternal life.

When a person claimed to believe in Christ, yet was ashamed to proclaim his faith in public, it indicated that he did not have true faith.
