So even though I try to keep clean, to not touch roadkill, or to use sanitary pads for my monthly period, it is for sanitary reasons- not to keep the laws of Moses. They had to do things physically in the old testament because it represented what we now do spiritually in the new testament. So they had to be physically clean because it represented us being spiritually clean. Romans 7:1-4 tells me that I am dead to the laws of Moses and now belong to another. And Matthew 28:18 tells me I am only to obey Christ- not Moses or any other. In Mark 9, around verse 7 the Father Himself tells me we are no longer to listen to the laws and the prophets (Moses and Elijah) but only to Christ- His Son.

Wash your hands before you eat is a command. If one does not understand the reason behind it could be a harsh one. Here some are to find out the reason. Here some think washing your hands would make you legalist though...

When Jesus feed a great multitude (about 5,000 men plus woman and children in a deserted place at evening after following him by foot out of the cities in Matt 14) with the five loaves and two fishes, did He command them to wash their hands or was there clean water provided for them to wash before they ate? No, He commanded them to sit down and eat and they did so with unwashed hands. According to your understanding Jesus put them in jeopardy didn't He? So many people passing around the food and who were also part of the people who had been sick (v.14). Was Jesus being negligent with the multitudes? Not even His disciples are said to have washed their hands before eating and I assume they were hungry also. Do you believe that the blessing of the food was good enough for them to be safe to eat with unwashed hands?

I still sleep in the same bed as my wife, but at the end of her cycle, we wash all of the sheets and towels from the last week. She and I are also showering every night and washing our clothes every night.

That sounds good for husband-wife situations... How about out in public? Do you try to find out if a chair has been sat in by a woman with a discharge? If the answer is yes, or uncertain, is waiting until that evening good enough? Suppose one was in a society that rarely washed clothes, and bathed, like, one a week... Would waiting till the end of the week be OK? My impression from the law was to wash soon, make an effort to wash quickly...

I cannot help one who does not understand analogy.
That's the heart of the matter: Some believe one must NOT wash their hands before eating to show their faith.

But not to forget Christ is the Word of God who spoke through Moses. He came not to abolish what He spoke through Moses but to fulfill, as in clarifying and to complete.
In Mark 9:7, the Father tells us we have the Word of God coming in the flesh so we may listen to Him in first person instead of the spokesperson.

So how do you keep this law if you want to abide by Israelite Law? By washing yourself and washing your clothes if you touch said furniture. This one is pretty easy to understand.

Another option is to see the principle in play here - basic sanitation - and just practice the principle on which the law is based. So, be sanitary rather than unsanitary. If you become dirty, unclean, nasty, smelly, bloody, etc.. take a shower and wash your clothes. This isn't exactly following the law though because the law is explicit in it's instruction/application; in this case you're following a principle on which the law is based - that being sanitation.

I'm thinking the law would work well in a Torah following community... I'm guessing the women there probably stay with other issueing women at that time... I just can't believe this post could be possible by people created by God!! "we are no longer under old law" for instance. So blocks of scripture are wiped out, just like that! We have a new world (without the old God?) because of sanitary pads. Obeying Christ is to not obey Moses. Doing things physically is out, spiritual obedience outlaws any physical following through. A part of you is dead through Christ, the part that could read scripture if it is in the Old Testament. God told you personally not to listen to anything Moses or Elijah has to say. Being physically clean has absolutely nothing at all to do with being spiritually clean, nothing physical should enter into worship or God, it is strictly spiritual. Oh My!!!!

When Christ explained that a good neighbor was one who physically actually helped the Samaritan, you would say to just pray for him and walk on, for the physical has no meaning. When Christ talked of listening to Moses, Christ was just beating his gums. When Christ said that if you know Moses you know Me, that was nothing?

What I found was that when this is done as bible prescribes (with the heart and mind, not just legalistically) it actually works in a wonderful way. In fact, during the dark ages when the knowledge of God was only through the little the Catholic Church allowed peasants to know, it was what kept God alive in the world, especially when the church became corrupt during that time. These were the people given the responsible jobs like overseeing farms, others could not be trusted.

Those colonies of people doing this today have varying results with mainly legalistic followers having the results Christ talked of with the Pharisees, and those following scripture having mostly wonderful results. There are always people within the colony who rebel, though. It always takes a group working together.

Yes, pretty much need the community, I think... If one wants to keep that law physically, which is what I understand you mean by legalistically... So I wonder then, for Christians who want to keep this law physically, do they live in a separate community?

And another option is to simply believe the Word of God, spoken by the Son
in these last days (Heb 1:1-2) through the NT writers that
the law has been set aside (Heb 7:18-19)

and replaced with the law of Christ (Mt 22:37-39; 1Co 9:20-21; Gal 6:2; 5:6)

which fulfills (accomplishes) all that in the law of Christ (Mt 22:40; Ro 13:8-10; Gal 6:2).
