Do you ever get depressed that you're not perfect?
Bear with me; I'm not asking do you get depressed for not having a big ego.
The Bible says "Be holy, for I am holy." Does your falling short of God's call to perfection ever depress you?
I strive so hard to be holy. I told someone how closely I montior my own thoughts and he said "You're trying to be perfect!" Well the Bible says "Be perfect, as you're heavenly Father is perfect."
What really depresses me is that I'm stuck like this. I swear, at times I think I'm on a roll then the Spirit convicts me, and I'm like "Doh! I can't believe I did that! I knew better!" I guess that's why the Scriptures say "He who thinks he stands, take heed..."
Paul faced this problem. In his anguish he finally exclaimed "Who will set me free from this body of death?!"
"Thanks be to God!" he says, "On one hand I serve the law of God, on the other hand, the law of sin (my paraphrase)" That's just the way it is! Live with it, Jamie!
I haven't learned to live with it. Every time I sin, God is displeased with me. Not that He loves me any less, but often I stumble over the same sins in different situations. Such as judging. Not so much as judging a soul heaven or hell, but just serving up my own opinion of the way this or that should be. Then I find I do the same thing myself! And this cycle repeats itself, and I don't know how much more I can take.
God doesn't demand perfection from His children, because that is impossible to achieve in the flesh. The old Adam always rears his ugly head. I just have to learn that when I sin, I have to repent and move on. But I haven't yet accepted the fact that I am indeed going to sin! That's a fact. "On the other hand, the law of sin." There's no way around it. I have to live with the fact that I disappointed God and I WILL DO IT AGAIN. Errrrrrrrrr.
Doesn't that just agravate you? Anyone have any tips of coping with this?
