In Daniel 12, what will the wise understand that the wicked won't?

Daniel 12:10 says " Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand."

What is this verse referring to?

It's not easy to understand how broad in context that verse is in regards to Daniel's prophecy - but he seems to be referring to the time of the gospel where believers are made "white" in the blood of Christ.

1 Pet 1:22 Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart

Daniel 12:10 says " Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand."

What is this verse referring to?
The first coming of Christ IMHO.

Daniel 12:10 says " Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand."

What is this verse referring to?

Dan 12: 10. there was a time of purification, when God’s people repented and believed, tho the wicked remained in their state just as they do today; and those who had discernment to see the fulfilling of Daniel’s prophecy and Revelation understood what this prophecy was about.

Daniel 12:10 says " Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand."

What is this verse referring to?

I believe that the time periods shown in the following passages are all referring to the SAME time slot:

--Revelation 12:6,14

--Revelation 11:2

--Revelation 13:5

--Daniel 7:25 [27]

--Daniel 12:6-7 [1]

...so that, Daniel 12:1-4,10 [parallel with the ideas expressed in Ezekiel 37:12-14,20-23; Romans 11:15; Hosea 5:15-6:3; Isaiah 26:16-21; etc] refers to that which will take place in the middle-to-end (2nd half) of the future "70th-Wk/7-yrs/ONE WEEK"... pertaining to the "Weeks" DETERMINED UPON "thy [Daniel's] people" and upon "thy [Daniel's] holy city"; and that the time period expressed in Dan12 is (IMO) even more specific than those of these other [related] passages (listed above), and that this is a part of what the verse 4 "and knowledge shall be increased" will mean FOR THEM (during the trib years they will be existing in), and that "the wise [of them (Israel)]" are the "wise servants" of other passages (relating to the same time period leading UP TO His Second Coming to the earth), so that, having come to "understand" (as they will have, at that future time), will be the ones "leading the way," so to speak. (I believe Matthew 24:14/26:13 will be being "preached in all the world" by them [the believing remnant of Israel, of that future time ("the least of these My brethren" of Matt25:40)], which is the INVITATION to "the wedding FEAST/SUPPER" [the promised and prophesied earthly Millennial Kingdom], as referred to in Matt22:[7(-70ad events-)then-sequentially]8, and Rev19:9 [distinct from v.7], which will commence upon His "RETURN" (to the earth).

I believe the "and knowledge shall be increased" (Dan12:4) pertains to biblical truths/prophetic truths, as opposed to all other types of knowledge out there, increasing. That's how I see it.

^ I didn't word that quite as well as I would have liked, and tried to edit (no time left), so I at least hope the basic idea came through... :D

Daniel 12:10 says " Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand."

What is this verse referring to?
There is already a theological error in the version you have quoted: *...shall purify themselves and make themselves white...*

According to the KJV: Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE in what is being presented. Your modern version is presenting the false teaching that the saints can purify themselves and make themselves white. But the Bible says that only the blood of Christ can purify us, and cleanse us from our sins, and only the robe of imputed righteousness can make the saints white and fit for Heaven. In other words only God and Christ can perfect the saints SUPERNATURALLY. So once again, we can see how modern bible versions promote false doctrine.

But getting back to your question about the wicked not understanding while the righteous (called *the wise*) will understand, we need to go back to verse 2:

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

So the righteous will understand the full meaning of everlasting life AFTER they have been purified and perfected by Christ at the Resurrection-Rapture of the saints.

1 JOHN 3
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Now verse 3 may seem to suggest that the saints purify themselves, but what it really means is that we are to walk in the Spirit, and be progressively sanctified. However, no Christian will attain sinless perfection in this life, therefore our perfection must be a SUPERNATURAL perfection -- glorification by God Himself.

But the Bible says that only the blood of Christ can purify us, and cleanse us from our sins, and only the robe of imputed righteousness can make the saints white and fit for Heaven.

Where was the 'blood of Christ' in the Old Testament? I know that much of Daniel is prophetic, but not all of it. Even the prophets, though they did write of the death of Christ, did not understand what they were writing. Yet, even under the Old Testament economy the sinner did not purify themselves--except in the case of some of the offerings they made--such as the one the new mothers made at the temple.

True enough, the sacrifices and offerings looked forward to the death of the Lamb, in type and figure, but the OT saint did not know that until Paul explained it to us in the New Testament.

Daniel 12:10 says " Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked shall act wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but those who are wise shall understand."

The wise ( made wise by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit ) will not be deceived by the great deception of the Anti-christ during the end times.. I believe that the Anti-christ will put himself forward as being the returned Messiah to Christians and the promised Messiah to the Jews.. He will be able to do great lying sins and wonders and many will worship the Anti-christ as God on earth..

Most of the world will be fooled and those who persecute and kill true Christians will think they will be doing God service.. They will see true Christians as evil rejectors of God because we shall refuse to worship the beast..

Hi CherieR,
Daniel did not understand the meaning of the visions he was shown in Daniel 11, and so he asked the angel in Daniel 12:8 what was the meaning of all the visions. The angel then informed Daniel to go on his way as they are not meant for him or his generation to comprehend, but are meant for the generation at the end of the age, at which time the words would be unsealed (Daniel 12:9); and at which time according to Daniel 12:4 knowledge of these things would then be increased.
So to answer your question; when understanding of these events starts to increase among the faithful at the end of the current age, the wicked who love this world, will refuse to believe, and therefore not understand what these things mean.

Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
