Gal 4:22-5:2
22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
KJV

GAL 5:1-2

1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Be content therefore in the grace of God; and do not seek to entangle yourselves in slavery to the Law.

2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.

What Jesus did for you on the cross is sufficient. If you feel a need to add your own works to what Jesus has done, you are no longer trusting in Jesus for your salvation!

MarcR; I agree fully!! Jesus came to us as a whole person to be a demonstration, reincarnate God.

Matt 24:4
And Jesus answered and said unto them, take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying I Am Christ; and shall deceive many. (Relating to the Second Coming.)

Very true!

I noticed that there is a new trend among Christians of denying Christ' work: the new trend is to say that God has not fulfilled His promises to Israel in Jesus Christ. That the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ do not actually fulfill the whole saving purpose; that Jesus Christ is not the fulfillment of the Old Testament.

John 6:28-29
28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Romans 10:8-9

8
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Ephesians 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

2 Peter 1:19
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

John 1:16
And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.

Romans 11:6
And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Galatians 2:20-21
20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Romans 5:8-11
8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

How about works because of what Jesus did for you and in you?

I'm going to agree with Marc here because he is in agreement with scripture:

It seems so simple when you understand that scriture states that works FOLLOW salvation...works do not save and they do not keep one saved

I'm not sure why folks have such a hard time letting that soak in

I trust Jesus and take him at his word.....Confess with your mouth and believe with your heart (mind) that God has raised him from the dead = eternal salvation!

James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

I don't understand this. The OP is ' in whom do you trust?'. So are you saying you trust in good works...whether they be His or yours?

No, in relationship to this paragraph.

How about works BECAUSE of what Jesus did? Not to add to what he did, because we can't, but because of what he did. I do good works because he enables me and put his Spirit in me to do that.

Oh yeah, I have a bad habit of calling that fruit...i.e. What Jesus produces in us through the Word, watering, hot sunny trials, chastisements etc. :)

Hmm? I thought I was being chastised by God for not doing. Sort of a holy kick-in-the-pants, but not this hard --

The harder you try to be good enough for God, the more you rely on works of the law to be justified before God in your faith, the further away you grow from what Christ termed the higher points of the law: Justice, mercy and faithfulness
The harder you try to justify your Christianity by works of the law the more you neglect what matters most
The Pharisees tithed down to their last mint dill and cumin, so in earnest were they to be justified according to the letter, by doing so they neglected what mattered most, the love of God(luke 11:42)
If you think you can strive to be good enough, you will neglect the love, mercy and compassion of God in the process. You don't need it, it is all about what you have achieved, what you have done. You cannot say as David did:
I trust in Gods unfailing love forever psalms52:8

Thank you for those wonderful scriptures marc, and your final paragraph

I trust in Jesus and when I get outta the way, listen and yield the Holy Spirit can guide me and change the deisres of my heart to conform with His, looking at Jesus not at me, His righteousness not my fiflthy rags.

When I trust my own efforts....it's never good only frustrating.

Thank You, Jesus.
