I have a new Christian friend who suffered through some terrible abuse as a child. She has been through counselling, and was informed of a program through the government called the injuries compensation board. The board assesses the impact of the abuse on the individual, taking into consideration medical costs, psychiatric counselling, future loss of wages because of mental illness brought in by the abuse...etc.
This woman asked me if I thought it was Christian of her to fill out the application and be compensated for her suffering. She is married and has children, but says this abuse has impacted her tremendously over the years...from anxiety problems to poor decisions with bad consequences brought on by low self worth. I hope someone on here knows what I'm talking about...
Anyways, being a new Christian, I didn't know what kind of advice to give her, or even if I should give her any at all. I basically told her that I thought it was an individual choice on whether or not to apply. That there is no right or wrong answer. She expressed to me that she felt it was like suing someone which is condemned in the bible.
I dont know. I'm at a loss. If anyone can point me to some helpful scripture, or give some sound advice in this situation, I'd appreciate it.
