I hope this is in the right thread guys but here goes anyway.

I've simply been invited by my prom date to go to a leavers party at the beach. I know for sure that there'll be alcohol. I've never drank a sip of anything alcoholic expect a taste of champagne. I told her that I'd feel uncomfortable in such an environment and she replied telling me that I wouldn't be pressured into drinking at all.

Even if I wasn't drinking I'd still feel really awkward if everyone around me was doing that. I said I'd give it a think over and I honestly don't know what to do. Should I, Go/Not go? If not then how should I explain to her.

I'm sure there's some wise people browsing here and I could really do with your advice.

Thanks!

I didn't drink as a teen either. I went to a party with alcohol once. I was so uncomfortable in that environment i left in less than an hour. My advice, don't go. You will feel pressured to drink, just for the simple fact everyone else is. Why walk yourself into temptation? Why ruin your witness by showing up at a party where people will assume you are drinking? Why compromise your values for another person that clearly does not care about them? Why show up to an environment where people are actively breaking the law? And you know more than drinking will be done. Drugs, sex, who knows? All to pacify some selfish female that clearly does not respect you? And if she is a 'Christian' she clearly does not respect herself or her relationship with God either.
As far as what to tell her, if she's not a Christian then just say you don't want to. You don't owe an explanation, and if you've already told her why you're leery then she'll already know anyways. If she says she is a Christian outline these points i've just given you.

Thank you!

That was such a helpful response. I'll be sure to just tell her I feel completely uncomfortable in such an environment and that she should respect me for my decision.

Agree with Ugly. The pressure doesn't have to be verbalized to be implied and real. Your instinct is to not go and that you'll feel uncomfortable, and while it's good to step outside of one's comfort zone, you have to do so within reason and remain true to your values.

If she doesn't respect those values, that's all the more reason to not go.

All the best!
