Here's a question that comes to mind when thinking about the prime commandment to me anyways give me your thoughts please?

Well, like almost anything else, it depends on how its used and the priority given to it. Its just a an inanimate object, it is not in and of itself an idol, evil or sinful. It can be used that way, or it can be used for good. Thats all it really comes down to.

Good question. It doesn't seem all that long ago, in the time of the invention of the computer, that all the Christian religions spoke in unison against what they viewed as "The sign of the beast", and encouraged their followers not to get involved with the evil machine. As time went on, these same religions saw they were being left in the dust as progress continued full steam ahead. Than covertly, these same religions purchased computers to keep up with the mainstream. It's one of the embarrassing rants that has been swept under the rug as if it never happened. But, today we are shown that there is good and evil in all things depending how we perceive and use life.

It is a PC. The Xbox is the idol... lol.

j/k... I don't have an Xbox.

In most cases, I would say it has become an idol in our lives. Just like our TV''s.

I'm at my best when I'm attending events at churches and men's Christian business groups in my area four times a week and working to earn income.

But when I'm sick and work's slow, then I'm at CC too much... lol. But I'm feeling better and work's going to pick up soon :).

(Chuckle) So what do you do with all your spare time?

I do believe that the statement, ''there is good and evil in all things...'' is too broad.

I know that this comes from a pure heart, to which, all things are pure, and nothing defiled. Yet, from the most pure heart of the Lord God, through Jesus Christ, he gave witness that wickedness is in the world. He found it to be in our hearts.

There is no good in Satan. Not at all. His ways are continually evil, and so is the heart of a man that follows his ways.

The issue with Israel, coming out of Egypt, was an issue of the heart. And out of their hearts, which was full of idolatry, they built an idol. This was a manifestation of what was in their hearts. The Golden Calf did not defile them, but their hearts did. That idol is just gold, and can do nothing.

A computer is a computer, but some people use it for evil, some for good. But Satan is continually evil. Good and evil, both life and death are here to choose. And the admonishment was, ''CHOOSE LIFE.''

I have given up many tv shows and dont miss them at all. Giving up the computer would take a bit more willpower tho I think. However, if you can walk away from the computer without constantly checking if someone or something is summoning you, then the computer has not enslaved you....yet ;-) . I think technology overall has become an enslaving obsession for many people. As far as it being an "idol" i dont think I would look at it this way. An idol is a thing of worship, yes? There is a difference between worship and enslavement.

The most misquoted verse in the Bible may just be "money is the root of all evil", which is incorrect. The actual phrase is "love of money is the root of all evil". When anything takes precedence over our relationship with God, and becomes more important to us than Him, it has become an idol. Therefore, while computers are not idolatrous, themselves, they certainly have to potential to become idols. It depends on how each person views their computer. (You "facebook junkies" beware. ;) )
