Is having too much sin?

It's not a sin I believe those who do have alot of stuff should thank the Lord for it. Not many people around the world are that fortunate and have very few things. Always appreciate what you have, unfortunately many people take their blessings for granted. However we should not put anything of this world above God. Everything in this world will pass away but Gods word & his promises to his people will never pass away. The Lord also mentioned treasure in heaven for his people that will last forever.

***** I don't think having stuff is the issue---- does stuff have you?----if we put God first in all things we will know what we should do with our money...
 
Anything which takes the place of God in our lives is "unwise" but not
necessarily sinful, it depends what it is.

It is possible to be money and possession rich and still love and follow God.
Im sure that King David was very rich and we know Solomon was rich.
But while David loved God and led a Godly life, Solomon allowed all his
riches and distractions to lead him astray.

The thing to be aware of is whether we allow things to comfort us.
Many turn to possessions as a way to be happy and find comfort,
hoarders are an extreme example of this. But how many people
go shopping when they are upset or depressed for example.

Nothing wrong with acquiring money as long as it's used biblical. If the people of God doesn't acquire the wealth then evil will quoted by Dave Ramsey.
 
It is in no way sinful to have alot of possessions....

so long as they dont distract your worship from God to them

You are the first woman that I have EVER heard say they can't stand shopping and shoe shopping is the worst. :eek: But not the first woman I've heard say can't have enough chocolate. :o
 
If you want to know if it is too much, start giving some of it away,
then you will find if you are coveting it or not.

A key issue is how you value yourself. If things you have start defining
who you are, then that is wrong and sin.

I had a compass given to me by my Dad. The Lord challenged me to lend it,
and then I discovered how much it meant to me. Unless I gave it away, when
it may or may not return, I was not free from a spiritual covetousness.

I did lend it, and I found I was freed inside. I did not know I was bound by this
until the question came. So it is easy to be tied up, you only find out when you
try and escape.
 
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.Malachi 3:10.


It doesn't seem having to much is the sin, but what we do with the to much.
 
Anything that comes between you and Jesus is a sin. if worldly possessions keep you away from Jesus they are a sin because they are a stumbling block. Fellowship with the Lord is to be prized above everything this world has to offer.

Mt 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Mt 10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

All things in moderation but avoid excesses.

The way you state your question, it almost sounds like it is a sin. It's not a sin to have a lot of stuff. However, it is our responsibility to contribute financially to the welfare of the world. If you are using money that should be used to contribute to the welfare of the world, and spending it on unnecessary stuff for yourself, that might be considered a sin. Most of us, for instance, contribute to our churches.

Hi Mary,

In all of the teachings in scripture, the true question is where is my heart?

What are my passions, my pursuits, my desires? Are they in Jesus and the things of the kingdom of God or are they on the things of this world?

Do I use all of my earnings only on myself? Or do I use them also to advance the Kingdom and get people saved, adding to the family of God?

Do I care about all of God's people, my brothers and sisters living in India, Africa, Mexico or wherever my brothers and sisters are suffering trying to find clean water to drink and enough food so that they aren't sick and dying or are they clothed and not going naked. Are they warm at night? Or are they burning up with intense heat without any way to get cool?

So again, where's our heart? America is rich in comparison to the rest of the world. I believe that God blessed us so that we can bless the nations who love God, but are barely able to get by.

And God has blessed us to further the kingdom of God. And I'm not talking about giving so that your pastor can live the good life or so the church can have a bigger and more elaborate building. I'm talking about ministries that spread the good news, the gospel of Christ, the gospel of the kingdom of God.

For example there's a ministry that helps to get clean water by building water purifiers and they help find work for others, they train their people to get out and share the good news. Their missionaries walk or ride bikes if someone will help provide the money.

This is only one example of where our money can go to help our brothers and sister in Christ. There are multitudes of ways. For a long time I had tunnel vision and only gave locally. We had a missionary come and share the joys of what God was doing in their nation. They also showed the devastation. People starving, disease, hunger...........castaways if you're poor.

God opened up a whole new way of looking at money for me. Instead of asking what I can keep and buy for myself, my mind began to think of those who really need my money. I wanted it to help build the kingdom and get others saved from the tentacles of satan.

Bottom line, if you have too much stuff, go and talk to God, read the scriptures and you'll find your answer. Where's our heart?

 
There is a fine line between being covetous and or enjoying the fruits of one's labor which is biblical. The bible contains both the rich that were faithful and the poor that were faithful.......at the end of the day....the rich and the poor can put Jesus first.........God has used wealthy men, poor men, working men and even slaves to work his will.......there are numerous verses that deal with every possible gambit of your question....!

I can list 46 scriptures that speak against riches of any kind. Can you show me some that say having worldly wealth is ok?

Re-read my post...the bible has some wealthy men that were righteous that GOD used to bless other's with....the bible does not say MONEY is evil.....it says the LOVE of money is evil.....

Who bough the tomb Jesus was laid in? What does the bible say about him?
Was Solomon lying when he said it was of GOD'S hand to enjoy the fruit of one's labor?
Was Solomon given wealth by GOD's hand?
The three wise men laid what at the feet of JESUS?
Was Job wealthy and what was his last estate?
Did God allow the HEBREWS to SPOIL the Egyptians?
The one given the most TALENTS....what was his reward when the MASTER came back

Your missing my point altogether because of your stance.....I am not saying that those that are uber wealthy should not give back and or denying what Jesus said to the PARTICULAR MEN and rich that he ADDRESSED.......

POINT BEING....just because a believer has wealth...it does not mean they are unfaithful, unusable and or in error because they have wealth.....MANY rich believers have done MANY wonderful things because of their wealth......regardless of the 46 scriptures that you can list bro!
