Sometimes calling a spade a spade is called for.
I only call people heretics if I can prove Bibilcally that they are wrong. That means lots and lots of Scripture in context. And Greek. Sorry to all you who distain scholarship, but the fact is, you can't do theology without having some basic understanding of Greek. And even then, people will disagree.
What I abhor is name calling and nastiness when there is no attempt to show Scripturally where the person is wrong. This thread doesn't require Scripture, of course, but many do! Especially when we are talking about theology.
Personally, I would love to stop arguing theology, and actually look at passages and find out what we can all get out of various passages. We may not agree on everything, but at least we would be discussing the Bible.
I've been attacked a few times, it doesn't bother me much. I have a pretty thick skin. And if I am wrong, I am happy to read what others write about a topic. I've changed my views about lots of things.
Which brings me to my point! Most people who call names usually are pretty entrenched and unmovable. That rigidity can be seen as being true to God, or being true to a favourite belief, rather than God.
Well, I don't see things changing in the near future. But if this thread helps, great. Otherwise, it is just another thread calling people names for calling people names!
