Is it better for a man to marry than to burn with passion, as the Apostle Paul says?

I think definitely sure. The apostle said it... sounds like good advice to me.

What does this entail though? My passion is to love The Lord, yet I have trouble with the passion of my flesh. Is it better for me to marry to quell my fleshly sinful desires than to burn with lustful passion?

I suppose it's better, but at the same time I would really dislike it if the reason a guy was getting married to me was because he couldn't control his passions and I was just some sort of outlet for him. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, and I get the concept behind it, but I still can't deny that I would feel used, in a sense.

Probably why Christian men in their early 20's are okay with marrying. I kid I kid! (altho, there might actually be a bit of truth to that)

What if the woman was ok with that? And what is the Apostle Paul really saying?

I've always figured that he was talking plainly; that if you're always going to be longing for a spouse and sex, you should get married. I have many single friends who clearly have a strong passion for God, but quite often get off-track thinking about girls and getting married (Who's it gonna be? When? Is she the one?). I believe Paul is telling these people to get married. Even though they will have to dedicate much of their time to their wife, they can spend the time they do have serving God without distraction. Same goes for the girls (or even more so for the girls).

i hope no one ever marries just cuz they cant keep their pants on EVERRRR that just leads to divorce

I agree, shae. If something as sacred as marriage doesn't mean more to you than satiating your libido, you won't be able to keep your pants on when you need to AFTER you marry either.

Paul may have recommended that we marry for this reason, but he also told men to CHERISH their wives as Christ cherishes the Church, and for women to respect their husbands. If your spouse doesn't mean more to you than a physical release, I can't see much cherishing/respect happening.

I'm still unsure as to if it's implying that one who loves God but struggles with lustful passion should marry for the sake of relieving those passions, to just anyone who will agree to marry me, or must it also be a believer?

2 Cor 6:14 (also Paul's wise counsel) Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Well of course I'm goin to cherish my wife as such. I'd not be doing my duty as a husband if I didn't.

I think way too much is made out of marriage. While a great marriage can be a blessing, I don't agree that marriage is sacred.

Matthew 22:23-30 (KJV)
23[The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,] 24[Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.] 25[Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:] 26[Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.] 27[And last of all the woman died also.] 28[Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.] 29[Jesus answered and said unto them, ] Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

There are apparently a lot of people of the world who agree that it's not sacred. Next thing you know, it will be legal to marry a cow.

This sounds pretty sacred to me:

MATTHEW 10:
[SUP]5 [/SUP]“It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. [SUP]6 [/SUP]“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[SUP][a][/SUP] [SUP]7 [/SUP]‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[SUP][b][/SUP] [SUP]8 [/SUP]and the two will become one flesh.’[SUP][c][/SUP] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. [SUP]9 [/SUP]Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

1.Connected with God (or the gods) or dedicated to a religious purpose and so deserving veneration: "sacred rites".
2.Religious rather than secular.

It is important to normalize a scripture with other scriptures. Heaven is not the destruction/negation of what God is doing on earth but rather the fulfillment of it. Consider the Lord's Prayer which true believers yearn to have fulfilled: "Your will be done, [O God,] on earth as it is in heaven."

When God brings us to heaven, He will not have eliminated marriage but instead fulfilled it. There will be no more marriage in heaven not because God's sacred marriage covenant is elemental and unsacred but rather because heaven is the fulfillment of the sacred marriage covenant.

I think way too much is made out of marriage. While a great marriage can be a blessing, I don't agree that marriage is sacred.

A marriage in Christ you can be CERTAIN will have its pitfalls and wrongdoings and mistakes but, you can be CERTAIN,too, that it will be holy, consecrated, and, undefiled IF done, according to His ways of doing things. 'Course, like belief takes faith, so does marriage take faith in the couple's understanding of Scripture, like a woman is to submit to a man and a man is to submit to God, and, might I add, the man is to take care of the lady RIGHT, and, this way is with the righteousness of Christ that He was imputed when he first accepted Christ's ways into his heart, which will be with a fearful knowledge of how quickly God will take him down IF he does live his life in fear of God's leading in his life, both he and his wife, one, as julieannie says of Matthew 10. 2=1. Together, God will do great things through their faith in Him, gaining Him more and more in their life. I am not married, never been, but I don't need to be, I can see Scripture's blueprint for marriage is perfectly clear.

Ephesians 5:21
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.

Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

Luke 22:42
Saying, Father, if you be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done.

1 Peter 3:5-6
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:

We are to understand, as marrieds, that God wants us to put our whole life in His hands, in 'fear' of Him, understanding NOT doing His WAYS is to be feared. The Lord leads :)

You NEED to seek Him, with all your heart, IF you are struggling with singleness, and, realize then His plan for you is perfect, not just best.
His plan was perfect for the Israelites, being THEIR 'king' but they wanted their own king, and , God gave them Saul, who ruled them as a dictator and was not even like God, in any good way. :(

Seek Him, He will show you your best way to go, understand your pain as a single ,and, how He wants you to have faith to stay in Him. :)

She definitely must be a believer; the Bible is very clear on that. And you also must be ready to love her as Christ loved the church (i.e. you must serve her, and be willing to die for her). The specifics are answered throughout scripture; I think this particular verse is simply answering the question "is marriage for me?" God hard-wired us for sex, and marriage is the healthy, scriptural way God intended it to happen within. So of course part of answering "should I get married?" should involve whether or not you feel like you can handle going without. If you can't, then be ready to love your wife. If you can, then you're dedicated only to the Lord.
