yes there is an agenda behind conspiracy theory...a very old agenda...

the whole idea of conspiracy theory traces back to the original conspiracy theorist...

'do you seriously believe the official story about the fruit of that tree?'

Rachel is a very intelligent girl, and I'm sure that if she has a point to make, she can come up with a better analogy, because this one doesn't really work.

The act of "questioning what God says" cannot be compared to "questioning what human leaders say."
It's all apples and oranges.
God is always true.
But men, ALL men, even leaders, are corrupt and fallen creatures.

So WHO is more capable of lies, a powerful world leader, or a guy sitting at a computer in his pajamas?
BOTH.
Both are fallen creatures.

We are NEVER to question God.
But scripture DOES teach us to question MEN.
All men are capable of lies...
both the powerful figures in the media, AND the people who criticize them.
All men are fallen.

No fallen mortal gets a pass.

Nice try, Rachel -- and, your intended point is easily understood -- however, the comparison is really weak. It would be far closer to the truth to say that Satan is the Father of all conspiracy than to suggest that he labeled [ the Holy Trinity ] as conspirators.

Satan was / is not a conspiracy theorist...

Satan was / is a conspiracy instigator...

:)

the comparison is accurate...satan implied that God was lying to adam and offered them 'forbidden knowledge'...the exact thing conspiracy theorists claim about whoever their target of choice is...

satan is the father of conspiracy theorists...including 'christian' conspiracy theorists who are really new age wolves in sheep's clothing...

"Hey --- you are starting to sound like a conspirator..." ;)

( Only a conspirator would tell someone to "take a blue pill" -- i.e., "go [ back ] to sleep" )

"Just sayin'..." :p ( hehe )

:)

only an unhinged person with gnostic tendencies would take 'the matrix' as anything other than fiction inspired by gnosticism...but then that is what the vast majority of conspiracy theorists are...

Seeing that almost none of this stuff can be proven in the legal sense...how do you know what is true and maybe the folks telling you how evil others are...are the evil ones?

you are on the right track...i pointed out something like this some time ago using the london olympics as an example...

conspiracy theorists were predicting all kinds of 'false flag' events that they claimed would take place at the london olympics...but nothing out of the ordinary happened...

instead it was the -conspiracy theorists- who were the ones sitting in dark rooms fantasizing ways of killing large numbers of people...and then -projecting- the depravity of their own sick minds onto the people who were running the olympics...

you missed what is actually being compared in the analogy...

namely that both satan and conspiracy theorists lead people to reject and ridicule plain facts and common sense...both present equally absurd and depraved 'alternatives' to what they dismiss as 'the official story'...

I do not support any crazy conspiracy theories.

However, I think it is biblical to continually question what we hear, no matter who is speaking...
just as we're taught in the scripture.

No one gets a pass.

Rachel's words needs to be checked and tested.
My words need to be checked and tested.
A college professors words need to be checked and tested.
A pastors words need to be checked and tested.
A politicians words need to be checked and tested.
And people complaining about politicians or the government... they need to be checked and tested also.

No one gets a pass.

God is true.
All mortal men need to be fact-checked.

i agree with this...

The more I watch some of these conspiracy things the more it seems the folks who make all this stuff up are the ones with a agenda...It seems to me much of this stuff is just propaganda made up to weaken the trust folks would have in our system. I often notice that very few liberals even seem to be involved in these conspiracy plans. But every republican seems to be right in the thick of every evil plot... Why is this...if we lose all confidence in our western system, what other system or group would benefit? Who benefits when we think all our western leaders can no longer be trusted? Who benefits when the folks no longer believe we should stand up for our traditional ideas? I would like to know if a powerful propaganda group like the KGB could be behind much of these conspiracy ideas? Just my thoughts

most into the conspiracy theories are those that dont trust government. i dont trust goverment, why, becuse they are bought and payed for by corporations and they lie about everything. please dont take my word for this, i beg people to go research this stuff on their own. read about political lobbies and how it was never exercised much until blacks, woman and poor folkes got their right to vote.
and what about the western system, read about Africa and what the west has done to that place. do people really believe Africans are just to stupid to progress, or its because they have a black face, those countries were progressing just fine until colonialism. Africa was made to be undeveloped by the west. and what of all the little countries around the USA, is it a coincidence they are all so undeveloped. again, read about the US involvement in central and south American countries.

this is really just the old 'watergate therefore lizard people' argument...the problem with this argument is that citing established cases of government wrongdoing does nothing to support unsubstantiated claims of all encompassing conspiracy...

please educate me rach, what is the point of lobbying?
90 percent of every piece of Africa with economic value is owned by a western company, this has no affect on the development of Africa?

i really scratch my head when you jump to defend such corrupt oppressive entities. its almost as if you would fly to the heart of Africa and laugh and kick a family that is literally about to fall over dead from starvation. i just dont get it?

"It's a good thing I'm not a conspiracy theorist..." :p

EDIT: By the way --- you seem to be "eaten up" with 'gnosticism' --- what is that all about???

'The Matrix' is a Hollywood movie. It is also a 'concept' that is represented and illustrated in that movie. It is also 'representative' of a truth-in-reality, which makes it a valid and usable context for the illustration of that reality.

I don't have any problem with conspiracies or conspiracy theories, I take them on a case by case basis, and if something looks interesting and I feel it is important, I may look at the evidence for it. Conspiracies don't just involve government, generally the word can be applied to any individual or individuals who make conscious plans to do something wrong to another individual or group of individuals. So that applies to all persons who fit that criteria, not just the ones who have been elected or taken power.

As for government in general, I see no reason why I should place my trust in an individual or group of individuals who have sought power to command armies, erect laws and enforce agendas through the power of taxation and through violence and coercion. That applies to any government, in any nation.

Historically speaking, there is no logical reason to, either. It is only the belief in God given authority granted to individuals or groups of individuals. The truth or falsehood of that maxim has to be tested across the board, whether one looks at Biblical examples such as David who abused his power, Saul who abused his power, or more modern entities like Hitler and the Nazi party, Bush and his phantom WMD's, Stalin, Mao etc.

Blind trust in an individual, political party or group of persons in power is a dangerous thing, in my view.

I don't think I mentioned blind trust? But a republic type government does require some trust and a group that wanted to upset or weaken our form of government would use this type of propaganda. Much of it is clearly intended for this purpose in my view...

It is no different than if someone makes a reference to something in Star Trek or Star Wars because other people can identify with it. The saying "Beam me up Scotty!" carries with it a certain real-life connotation that people understand. Likewise, "the matrix" refers to a truth-in-reality that people can identify with.

Anything is possible, Mitspa.

Except for flying.

It seems you real-life experiences have been way more exciting than mine.

where exactly did i -defend- 'corrupt oppressive entitites'? i merely pointed out that the existence of 'corrupt oppressive entities' does not imply the existence of an all encompassing conspiracy that controls the world...
