This verse is not exactly on point as it deals with money but the principle applies.
One's relationship with the Lord is above governments. Althought it will not always be so.

At the end of the day, it is the individual who will be accountable to God for his self, not the government. And so, the onus to sin or not to sin is on the individual. Jesus told us to take up our cross and follow Him, which means the 'journey' will be full of challenges (even be persecuted for His name) and hence will not be smooth.
Its the goverments responsibility to make and enforce laws that keep things orderly,but GOD is a spirit and must be worshipped in spirit and in truth.
I don't know of any Scripture where Jesus spoke of the "Government" being responsible for "stopping" people from sinning. I don't believe that was ever part of God's Salvation Plan at all.
I also have no idea what you are aiming for here. IF you are trying to find some imaginary "back door" to introduce the necessity of the "Law" into salvation............well...........
I was trying to have a discussion, but you are the one twisting my words.
Many people on this forum are fans of repressive totalitarian regimes like Communist Russia. Me, I like freedom.
I know it's a big ask to get people to actually 'think' about this stuff, but no need to assume I am trying to find back doors.

No, the Government should just get out of our lives. Their role is not to stop us from sinning, everyone should be free to make their own choice. Of course, choices like murdering or rape are wrong and that's when laws step in. I don't know what is exactly what you wanted to ask details wise, but I believe in limited Government and liberty!

Lets answer as a good God fearing person who has been studying the Bible, Old and New Testaments, especially the old, since it was a God centered Government, with laws for a peaceful God honoring society, with government ordered punishments for sin. Even the Church rules in peoples lives as to sin, and the discipline against sinful actions. The church, the Bible, dictates who is going to Heaven and who is going to Hell. We are not a Church/state but we certainly want right laws and righteous punishment of sinners in our society. Of course the Government must punish sin. There can be no good society that allows sinful behavior contrary to the moral laws of God. If we allow people to do what each one feels is right in their own eyes, we lose our society to sinners and criminals. Don't you people believe in Gods absolutes? If we don't take a stand for Godliness in our country we will lose our Christian freedoms to wicked ,godless persons like Bill Bye. who want to force children out of homes where God's word is taught. These false scientists who teach evolution want all godliness out of our country. We can not be silent and allow all morals absolutes out of our society. Hoffco

To P-rehbein, What kind of Christian world view do you advocate? You want a pagan government that can steal your children and execute you for teaching the Bible? You are handing the government you head on a silver plate. We need to stand up for the historical Church /state relation , separate but interrelated. And not allow the government to create a religion nor destroy a religion. but be run by God's moral laws. Hoffco

Wasn't there different Jewish sects and a priest class like Rabbis. They would rule on Godly stuff. Like how they organised the death of Jesus. Very similar to how the Orthodox/Catholic Church was?

so maybe you understand why a man like president Obama, who professes to believe in Christ, takes a pro-choice stance and changed his mind about homosexual marriage, saying it was more important to allow people freedom when it doesn't harm others than to legislate moral behavior? He's the president of a country, not the Bishop of a church.
i run into a lot of people who agree with you in what you said, but will turn around and condemn the president as the antichrist because he hasn't outlawed abortion, or shut down every mosque in the country. it doesn't seem to me they're being consistent in their convictions.
it was the place of the kings of Israel to enforce the moral law given through Moses, because Israel was God's chosen people and had entered into a covenant with Him to keep the law.
in my mind America is not in the same position, and i don't expect a government that represents collectively a lot of competing moral views and a lot of competing secular amoral views as well to legislate ethical behavior, except where behavior becomes dangerous to others.
when Christ returns it will be as King. a Monarch with unquestionable authority. He won't be "elected" and you won't have a "congressman" to write to if you don't like what He does or says. He alone is worthy of ruling all men such that all sin is removed from the earth. no mere human can take that position.
Unless it means citizens can own those big scary firearms.

I personally think the government has a civil role in controlling how armed the populace is. This has nothing to do with sin.

If you don't know my answer from the sum of my posts already, I'll be glad to. I think the government has no role in stopping people from sinning, until they begin violating the rights of others.
Question for you, it's on the subject. I see from some of my research that it is legal in Australia to commit suicide. Are you okay with that? Would you be okay with making it legal in USA to commit suicide?
