Ten signs your leader is a dictator
https://foreignpolicy.com/2016/11/23/ten-ways-to-tell-if-your-president-is-a-dictator/
1. Systematic efforts to intimidate the media.
Real dictators intimidate the media, they refuse to answer questions, laugh at questions and have pundits who don't get the message silenced. Take Tucker Carlson for example, if he refused to toe the party line you would expect him to be silenced, perhaps some pathetic legal attempt to say he has no right to speak at all anymore.
2. Building an official pro-dictator media network.
A real dictator has all the major media networks in lockstep. If he has a war you can be sure they will all be cheerleaders. If there is a crisis at the border or 100,000 deaths from drugs you can be sure the media will keep quiet and look the other way.
3. Politicizing the civil service, military, National Guard, or the domestic security agencies.
Real dictators turn the domestic security agencies into their private police force to intimidate, arrest and imprison their political opponents.
4. Using government surveillance against domestic political opponents.
A real dictator doesn't need warrants to spy on his people. He considers all of his political opponents his enemies, if half the country voted for his opponent then he would consider all of them to be domestic terrorists and therefore would spy on them.
5. Using state power to reward corporate backers and punish opponents.
A real dictator rewards his backers. If he spends 100 billion fighting a war you can be sure he will skim off 1-2 billion to pay his backers. He might use FTX or some other digital currency, but you have to keep people happy so they don't rise up against you.
6. Stacking the Supreme Court.
Real dictators use lawfare against their opponents and for that to work they have to stack the judges in their favor. You would see shocking rulings by their judges letting felons loose on the streets to terrorize the population, legalizing looting, while turning simple misdemeanors into major felonies with lifetime sentences in prison.
7. Enforcing the law for only one side.
You will even begin to think that it is "laws for thee and not for me". Perhaps the very same crime that they hyperventilate about one person doing they themselves are guilty of far worse and yet for some reason no one ever arrests them or holds them accountable.
8. Really rigging the system.
Real dictators are hated and vilified, they can't win an election legitimately. The best they can do is stay in their basement and not offend too many people as their henchmen rig the election. They will use mail in ballots that cannot be verified and the very act of trying to verify them would become a crime. They will use machines to read and count votes, machines they can rig to swing the election for them. In short they will have the best fraud department in their campaign that money can buy.
9. Fearmongering.
Real dictators rule by fear. They will label their opponents domestic terrorists, they will use SWAT teams to kick in the doors of pastors, they will put people into gulags and treat them despicably in prison. Everything is done openly to say "if you don't shut up you will be next".
10. Demonizing the opposition.
If you object to letting felons out of prison then you are demonized, a bigot, these felons are victims of the system. If you object to groomers teaching your elementary school kids then you can have your children taken from you. They will call you deplorable, irredeemable, and domestic terrorists. They will call you racists, homophobic, and on, and on.
So then what is the definition of wannabe? It means someone aspires or wants to be like another person. Do you think that Joe Biden wants to be like a dictator, is that an accurate description? I would say clearly no, we need a better adjective or even no adjective at all.
