Think about it . she’s acknolwedging and accepting the message of Jesus Christ

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭13:20‬ ‭

“He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:40‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I think it matters what “ receving “ means in the context id say it’s reflective of this

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One group receives the gospel in faith and the other one rejects it and dismisses it.

I hope you're correct! She does not seem to receive me when I want to talk further about her beliefs though, she seems content in that she has "received Jesus". This causes me concern because I believe one must believe that he died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead. Hopefully these are things she has learned and has believed too! Then there is no issue at all, and all is well. I have some apprehension about talking to her further about this, but hopefully that is where she is with things.

I know someone who always tells me that she received Jesus and I don't know what to think about that. Out of interest I want to know if this is a false way to be saved. It seems to be the fundamental security she has in her salvation. What I can't understand is if she genuinely believes that Jesus died for our sins (that our sins were laid on him and that he died for them, taking the penalty for them so we don't have to), was buried, and that God raised him from the dead, which is what I would equate with saving faith. She seems to pin her entire salvation on that she received Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. I don't even know what that means other than that she might believe that he's a real person and that she "received" him.

I know in John 1 it says what it says about those that received him, but I think it's writing specifically about those people and not meant to be taken as a literal instruction for us to "receive" him.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Clearly, because it says but as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. They still had to believe in him, and this is what you have to do in my opinion, as is made clear in John 3. So it makes me very suspicious when someone says that they "received" Jesus when what I think you have to do is to believe in him. I don't think it's any guarantee of salvation unless it is accompanied by faith in Jesus, and if that is the case why not just say you believe in him? And to be clear, John 1:12 is not even talking about salvation, it is just talking about people becoming sons of God, which might accompany salvation.

I think what you need to do is to believe on Jesus, not to "receive" him, in order to be saved. Or in other words, to believe that he died for our sins, was buried, and was risen from the dead by God. I don't know if "receiving" him does anything.

In my experiences, a lost person doesn't know what it means to receive Jesus UNLESS they are told by the person leading them to Christ.

For instance, I worked in children's ministries and noticed that some children's evangelists and Jr Church pastors would do a peculiar thing.
They often would lead children in prayers to "ask Jesus into their hearts" and never mention the Bible terms "believe," as in John 3:16, "faith" as in Ephesians 2:8 or other synonyms.
Many of these children never grew up in church and didn't even here the Name Jesus Christ except as a cuss word at home.
Rather than clearly explain the simple gospel, including Who exactly Jesus is, they would substitute false gospels for the true gospel.

I took this up with my pastor from time to time and the best he could respond with was, "Well, they all get them saved. All those ways are right."
This was an issue of division with us.

This was a very big issue that needs clarified because there is a way that seemeth right into a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
It's not wrong to ask someone lost to "receive Christ as their personal Savior", but the soul winner better make clear what John 1:12 means.

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Yes, this is precisely my problem with "receiving Jesus" - it is void of the gospel. From what I gather, if someone isn't believing in Jesus then they aren't saved and their action is futile.

John 3:14-18 (King James Version)
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Paul and Silas told the jailer that for him to be saved he was to "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ".

I would frame it in your own words, but ask those you are witnessing to, "Received Jesus as your Lord and Savior"?
I'm not sure what that means.
It seems to mean a lot of things to different people.
What does that mean to you?

If they start talking about what they gave up for Christ, or mixing discipleship with salvation, then you know they have not put their trust in Jesus altogether but in their own works.
I asked a lady about this recently who has a Christian YouTube channel.
She answered with a long list of works.
Then she linked to her attempt to share the gospel. It was full of christianized works mixed into her presentation. She is very indoctrinated into a works based salvation, so I moved onto others after seeing that she is closed to faith in the Savior. I explained it clearly again using basis Scriptures and prayed for her, but maybe someone else will see fruit where I watered.
I think this is what God desires when He sent His disciples out to every town.

Evidence of the new birth is often a change in the person.
How do you discern that in kids?

A hunger for the Word is a common desire I've seen.

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Yes I don’t really know exactly what she means by “ received Jesus “ I was just saying there is scripture regarding it .

sonetimes people learn phrases that n order to avoid getting into it with Christian’s . “Sure I believe in Jesus …..but what about that football game ?”

airs really a difficult thing to assess someone else’s relationship with God because there are babes who don’t know a lot but they do believe what they know and hear there are also adults and even mature elders who know a lot from experience and study and application

It’s that initial reception of the gospel that is important and gives one hope of salvation . At least she isn’t telling you it’s nonsense or that she just can’t believe in something she can’t see or anything like that . Sometimes a plant isnt flourishing but …… it’s alive

Although, to note, she did not say she receivethed Him. Clearly a red flag.

True , she’s probably out then … dear lord I hope I learn old English !

how are you Brother always good to hear from you

Receivethed? I haven't come across that form ofthe verb, even in the older Engish of the KJV, which uses "received" for the past tense:

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

It is possible for someone to think that they have received Jesus without actually receiving him or to think that they believe in him without actually believing in him, so it is good to define terms either way, though when it is correctly understood, then it is different ways of speaking about the same thing. In John 1:12, it equates receiving Jesus with being children of God and with believing in him. Our goal should be to be to embody Christ’s likeness through being a doer of His character traits, which is what it means to receive him, to be children of God, and to believe in him. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he embodied through his works by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to God’s law. In 1 John 3:4-10, those who are not doers of righteous works in obedience to God’s law are not children of God.

In Matthew 4:15-23, Jesus began his ministry with the Gospel message to repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand, which was a light to the Gentiles, and God’s law was how his audience knew what sin is (Romans 3:20), so repenting from our disobedience to it is a central part of the Gospel message. Im Titus 2:14, Jesus gave himself to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people of his own possession who are zealous for doing good works, so the way to receive what Jesus spent his ministry teaching and to believe in what he accomplished through the cross is by repenting and becoming zealous for doing good works in obedience to God’s law, which is also what it means for him to be Lord and Savior. Jesus saves us from our sin and sin is what is contrary to God’s character traits, so Jesus graciously teaching us to be a doer of God’s character traits in obedience to His law is intrinsically the way that he is giving us his gift of saving us from not being a doer of it.

We embody what we believe to be true about God through our works, such as with James 2:18 saying that he would show his faith through his works by, so everyone who is a doer of the same works as James believes in Jesus. In other words, the way to believe in God is by embodying His likeness through being a doer of His character traits. For example, by being a doer of good works in obedience to God’s law we are embodying God’s goodness, which is why our good works bring glory to Him (Matthew 5:16), and by embodying His good we are also expressing the belief that He is good. Likewise, the way to believe that God is a doer of justice is by embodying His likeness through being a doer of justice, the way to believe that God is holy is by being a doer of His instructions for how to be holy as He is holy, and so forth, which is exactly the same as the way to believe in the Son (Hebrews 1:3). This is also why there are many verses that connect our belief in God with our obedience to Him such as with Revelation 14:12 where those who kept faith in Jesus are the same as those who kept God’s commandments.

I'm sorry, it has to be more obtuse than that. Like "shew" for "show" and "ere" for "before". Otherwise it's just not the word of God.

John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
What usually is this drawing? Conviction!
I can "accept" just about anything on my own. But I must be drawn to Jesus to accept Him for salvation.

He was just joking around because of the kjv wording

“He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:40‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus already has drawn all men to him when he died for thier sins and rose …..

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:32-33‬ ‭KJV‬‬

And the call has gone out to everyone

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Note it covers everyone . If the innocent sonof God suffering and dying for our sins isn’t enough to draw people to him there isn’t going to ever be anything else to do it no magical hidden enabling or anything like that there’s just the gospel and whoever responds to it

Yes i see this

Yes, but it doesn't mean at the same time. We weren't around when He said that.

awe don’t have to be there at the time for it to be true . He was talking about his death , he would “ draw all men to him by dying for thier sins as a propitiation and send the gospel out to all of them proclaiming what he had done in dying for thier sins and being raised up again for thier justification.

the gospel is Gods call to all creation and how we are drawn to Jesus

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;

but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He doesn’t need to do anything else he’s already given his last breath in a cross of suffering to save people . He’s also already sent out the message to all humanity whats needed is for people to hear about Jesus and the gospel the true message of Gods love for humanity given to us in his only begotten son and his message of salvation for humanity from sin and death. This draws people to God who believe the gospel when they hear it . Or leaves them without excuse or atonement before him when they reject it.
