The answer to this question in my opinion lies with the reason as to why an induvial wants to "smoke marijuana". If it's for selfish reasons (pleasure/to get "high") then I would say yes, it's (most likely) a sin.

For some strange reasons I find that everyone who says they do it to medicate themselves actually show that they just like to get stoned.

There is joy and peace in the Lord, but many people choose to engage in carnal and Satanic practices as a cheap substitute for the risen Savior.

Yes exactly a legion was a Roman unit of a thousand soldiers

Jesus found him possessing a man running around in a graveyard in chains scaring people and causing problems once Jesus learned of his name he cast him out into a bunch of pigs who ran off into a cliff which greatly upset the people since that was their form of money however the imagery is what I have captured and using the name for example

It's my side hustle, ribs ordered for specific days into Dallas, tx.
Thanks for confirming @legion
Hope you have a good resurrection Sunday.

The name “Legion” is the name of the many demons trapped in a man, which Jesus sent into a herd of pigs.

I’m trying to understand why the name choice?

Also, the wine that Jesus drank was basically a fermented grape juice (11-12% alcohol content), and diluted with water, lowering the alcohol content.

People back then drank mostly wine, in order to refrain from polluted water.
Thans for asking. This is a really long answer and i can only give you highlights. I was saved at 14 with no real discipleship. I wandered off the deep end but with the full knowledge that God/Jesus was real. My primetime was very late 70's, 80... and ultimately into the 2000's Sex, drugs, rock-n-roll, dark occultism. I was in the Navy during 1st Gulf war, and then continued as Software and Database Architect in enterprise America in Dallas, Virginal, California, Maryland, and Florida mostly, for more than 20 years while also being completely "off the chain". (if I can barrow the expression) Circumstances or God calling brought about a moment of clarity as they say and returned to the fold.

I never left the study of Christian theology, This brough about a lot of knowledge and experience like it or not, good or bad. The story of Legion is interesting to me. For example, who were the spirits that made up "we are many" in Legion? Note that Legion is title of a military unit not a specific individual.

I am a HUGE fan of smoking meat primarily pork ribs, brisket, burn ends, etc... I have a side hustle selling ribs and delivering them to people in Dallas, Tx 2 times a week (my days off). I also make Texas shotgun shells, onion bombs, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers... I like dark humor so.... http://www.legionsribs.com is my website however I have yet to really get that site going, most of my business is word of mouth.

As for using this name in a Christian forum it is to a degree intentionally provocative to cause one to consider it when responding, then when matched with my temperament (iNTj if anyone is interested) I find it provides a lot of funny, even if not intended scenarios. I am not trying to emulate Legion necessarily, only open the door to my love of smoking meat. And I love the dark humor element.

Wow that was difficult to not launch into a testimony. But hopefully that answers your question.

Getting high to communicate with God?! You need a Bible verse to tell you that's wrong?
I am not suggesting that but, even so while foreign to western culture, it is common practice all over the world for a spiritual awakening to take strong psychedelics to be more intact with God. Those people who have experienced such things will tell you straight up, complete annihilation of self and ego will bring you closer to God, this isn't even remotely questionable. Loss of self (flesh) promotes spiritual growth). Fasting is a great example of this. The problem here is that it brings you close to a lot of other dangerous things as well. So it is not for the uninitiated. And unless you're really wanting a deep dive into God and all that he is with no guardrails, I would say don't even think about it. I'm not going to argue this particular point because it would be dangerous to some readers who may decide to take psychedelics without knowing what they are doing.

At the end of the day my point is only this... Working like a dog, coming home and having a beer or a join and watching news, reading a bible, or playing with your kids. isn't a sin. Why? Jesus on his last supper had alcoholic wine, and I'm pretty sure he didn't sin. We don't have a definable line in the sand for loosing sobriety. A 300lb muscle man maybe can drink 3 beers and relax without being un-sober, where as a 100lb female 1 beer is too much.

Its a good idea not to engage in heavy consumption of alcohol, cigarettes, weed, fried pork belly. But it isn't a biblical command. Only by ignoring the text and bringing presupposition to it can you think its condemned. Just because pleasure is super fun doesn't imply bad.

As one of the commenters noted, and it probably best left at this: Its between you and God.

Maybe the other arguments could pass with a push, but not this one. Can't see it condoned anywhere in Scripture.
Well then you simply are not someone who can effectively witness to those who have crossed that line. that is ok, its not your cup of tea. I was a hard drug abuser in my day, and whether true or not ( and i think it is): No one who has not been in the realms I and millions of other addicts have been in have no understanding or foundation with nothing to offer us except regurgitated remedial one liners.

To everything there is a season and purpose.

Try this. Smoke your joint then write down what you are experiencing. You could record your prayers too. Play them back when you are straight. See how "spiritual" it makes you. Just a thought. If it really was of value, do you not think God would say so in His word?

Another thought. Why is this so important to you?
Good question its important because currently and also in the very near future America will have legal weed, mushrooms, ketamine at the recreational level. Just like the 60-70's spawn a mass exodus from self-control. The church will have to deal with an ever-increasing problem if it thinks weed is evil. People are evil. weed may or may not be used for evil, but it's the person who uses as such.

When you lay out the facts from the bible the only truth related to this is "be of sober mind". but this begs a definition of sober. If sobriety is simply a matter of Dopamine and Serotonin giving us pleasure, which it what all drugs modify, then anything that give you a thrill is evil.

My original question into this wasn't stabbing in the dark, it was a very forward looking question.

If your answer to an addict is to tell them they can get closer to God by using drugs, you aren't doing them any favors and you sure aren't leading them to Christ. Anyone can effectively witness to anyone else, because of who and what we are witnessing about. Am I not understanding what you're saying? I just re-watched the Jesus Revelution the other day. I found it very interesting and compelling. Have you seen it? All about the Jesus Movement back in the 70s. I was born early in the 70s so I didn't get to see it happen, but it was a great move of God, which needs to happen again in this country. But churches mostly haven't found a way to reach young people today. That was what the movie was about, how young people were chasing drugs, sex, music, everything but God.

Ok, just a quick story to make my side of the point. There's a magazine called Charisma it was popular and somewhat controversial in the 90s. I guess it's still going but I don't hear much about it. Either way it was becoming more popular for Christians to drink. This pastor went out with his pastor friends that night to eat and decided to imbibe. As the night went on they became a tipsy. When it came time to leave they went out and one of them came up against a cop. I don't recall what started it but the pastor was lit and he got himself in trouble with the cop. As this pastor watched his pastor friend flipping out on a cop he sobered quickly. He realized what kind of testimony it would be if someone from the church were to walk by. This pastor who was normally stayed and stable was making a fool of himself and and a horrible testimony besides. The pastor who wrote the article never drank again. The Bible talks about self control. Many people believe they can handle themselves when it comes to alcohol and drugs. Very few can. The Bible says to shun the apprearance of the world. We need to be careful that we don't cause others to stumble.

Thanks @Norin , I meant @legion lol thanks for sharing and clearing all that up.

I was like, “am I going to have to create a Satan username?” Totally kidding.

I like dark humor too but when it comes to faith, I understand why someone, even me, would take an enemy name as like a threat…I used to see that stuff on the Reddit Christian channel or whatever they call it. People would have a name and basically embody that character on Reddit. I wonder if people would ever do that here.

A comment I just read on a podcast interview with a former demon possessed man needs posted here as a warning for the teenagers .

"My daughter spent a short stint in the hospital after vaping too much pot. She was released and had to see a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist diagnosed her as depressed /bi polar in less than 10 mins and gave her a prescription for lithium. We took the prescription and after we went outside I ripped it up and said she wasn't going to take it. Depression doesn't run in our family. She had a psychotic break from vaping way too much pot. If we had listened to this doctor she would have been on a cocktail of pills. She stopped vaping pot and healed and is now fine".

Way too much pot starts with one joint.

Not going to lie, I guess this is a confession: I smoked ten puffs of nicotine free, tobacco free shisha tonight cause I thought it would be a safer alternative to a tobacco, nicotine version.

I immediately looked up if it was safe for aFib arrhythmia and of course it said no.

In fact studies show that anything smoked has a detrimental effect on anyone with a heart condition with or without aFib arrhythmia.

So it’s best to just not smoke anything at all.

Not sure what is wrong with me lately and why I am backsliding but I had a hookah from a decade ago in my garage that I cleaned up and restored, ordered the shisha off Amazon, badabing badaboom, i smoked hookah this evening.

Will not be using that ever again.

Not sure what I should even do with it.

I want to throw it away but I also would like to make money off of selling it.

(No, I’m not selling it on Christian Chat)

Pray for me please and thank you.

That is not at all what I was saying for the record I don't think drug use is a good idea at all

If a drug addict reaches out for help it is very important that the person who they are dealing with understands the nature of their addiction.

For example a heroin addict reaches out to an X heroin addict because they can relate.

This rabbit hole is extremely deep and there are certain things you discover certain truths and certain evils that alter your perspective and unless cleverly handled by somebody who has been there and done that one risk not being useful at all

I wouldn't want somebody to train me in martial arts who just making it all up for regurgitating something that read in a book that is my point

Yes it is a sin.

Repent and ask for forgiveness and start walking after the Spirit rather then the pleasures of the flesh and you too can go to heaven IF you endure IN Christ until the end of your life.

Otherwise, no dice.

I've seen what weed does to people, including two guys I shared a house with. They were both clean at the time, but told me some of their experiences. Not pretty. I also had an acquaintance from several years before stay with me briefly. He was away with the pixies, even though he was supposedly saved.

Some people do dope and seem to be unaffected. Others become instantly paranoid or suffer some other mental disorder. No one knows before they try it and that is a problem.

All drugs open people to the demonic realm. Drugs affect the mind and the will, faculties that are vital in staying free from demonic bondage. Alcohol can be as bad. The difference is that it gets out of the system fairly quickly, unlike Cannabis. Cannabis use may be less harmful than harder drugs, but it's still not good.

From my personal observation (not experience) those who are high have an altered sense of reality. The most important quality for a believer is an honest heart. Weed is not also called dope for no reason. I had conversations with my acquaintance when he was high. It was beyond weird. I had to ask him to leave. He freaked me and my friends out. And he started smoking in the house, which could have got me evicted.

Unfortunately you cannot prove that.. and I can tell from the ferver which a lot of you people are responding you're not paying attention anything I've said ive already expressed that I don't smoke pot I quit that years ago this is why I question people when they claim they have a good concept of what's written in the Bible they can't pay attention to the questions meta data.

I'm not suggesting anybody should be running around smoking pot I don't smoke pot anymore I think it's harming America but I don't find that it's ever named as something a sin it may lead to sin it may lead one into other areas of sin but it itself nowhere in the Bible is clearly denoted as soon quite the opposite actually
